Fourth Floor (4)

Double Agent

Although Lion bringing lots of prisoners with him while leaving might easily mislead others into misunderstanding what is to come, He is clearly not as dumb as others take him for. Outside the courtyard, most of the prisoners follow the prison officers to return to their cells.

Only a few of them continue to follow Lion to head towards Black Glove’s cell.

The officers around, meanwhile, continue their business as if they do not see Lion and his men.

Xin Yongyuan is one of them. He can see some wary men belonging to Black Glove around them——While they should all be in the courtyard given the time, Black Glove’s absence means, naturally, some of them have stayed behind as well.

They leave their cells to stand outside of Black Glove’s cell, in order to physically stop Lion from advancing.

Xin Yongyuan tilts his head towards Lion for instructions.

The imposing man merely continues walking without a sign of stopping.

“Lion, what are you trying to do?” The front of the crowd asks, “start a war with us Nianluo?”

Lion finally stops in front of the wall, “move.”

“Nianluo is not yet going to bend to your will.” The wall moves apart to allow Old Coyote to move to the front.

Seeing Old Coyote has dampened Lion’s aggressiveness somewhat, “I’m here to take someone.”

“On Nianluo’s turf?” Old Coyote has his hands behind his back. He’s got on in years for sure, and is an elder of Nianluo at this point. He has followed Black Glove into Stargaol; being highly trusted by the Glove means he is also somebody on the fourth floor.

Lion raises his brow, “the guy Glove brought last night. Mine.”

Old Coyote falls into thought, as someone whispers something next to him.

“You’re talking about Bunny?” Old Coyote glances at the cell behind him, “you jest. You and I both know he is nobody to you.”

Lion is not here to have a debate. He tells Old Coyote with a flippant tone, “hand him over, or I’m going in.”

Old Coyote lifts a brow. The frail old man suddenly gives way to a youthful fighting spirit, “it appears you do not properly respect us Nianluo.”

As he says so, the wall behind him holds weapons tight. They are in a battle stance against the few that stand before them.

It’s trivial to conclude that Lion is at a disadvantage in terms of pure numbers.

However, from their looks, one would think Nianluo is more wary than vice versa.

As Lion is standing before them.

The man who became equals with Black Glove on the fourth floor, on pure fighting prowess.

There are sparks flying through the air.

In the middle of this brewing tension is a sudden interjection.

“What’s going on here?” Lin Yi walks over, and pulls a long face at the crowd with weapons drawn.

“Put those away; where do you think you are?” He knocks on a nearby pole with his baton to exert his authority as a prison officer, “what are you doing outside your cells? Go back where you came right now.”

The crowd is looking at him, with a rather simple, uniform gaze – who is he? Is he stupid?

The sparks quickly fly from between the two factions to between them and Lin Yi. Compared to the stress of facing off against Lion, this little dumb, white-looking Lin Yi who looks like he has no idea what he’s got himself into is far less anxiety-inducing. In fact, they’re raring to go.

Old Coyote, though, is knitting his brows observing Lin Yi, until he finds a corresponding figure from memory.

He raises his hand to put a stop to the energetic crowd, “Lin Yi?”

“Coyote. Long time no see.” Lin Yi greets him.

The excited Nianluo lackeys are looking between this unfamiliar prison officer and Old Coyote. They understand quickly enough, and stop baring their fangs to await Old Coyote’s instructions.

“Why are you here?” Old Coyote asks slowly and with furrowed brows, “new orders from Captain?”

Lin Yi glances towards Lion.

Old Coyote looks as well.

Lion’s surprise is clear as he examines Lin Yi once more. He asks, “does… the Doctor know you’re here?”

Doctor? Old Coyote raises his brow a little at the unfamiliar nickname. Someone whispers to him once more.

“Of course he does.” Lin Yi says lightheartedly, “speaking of, if I recall, your cell is not here?”

“Doctor knows?” Lion is mumbling to himself. It seems certain Doctor is here for Black Glove, then.

“Courtyard time is almost over. I suggest you head back.”

Lion stops thinking about it, and gestures towards the cell behind the wall of prisoners, “officer Lin, I heard that there is a prisoner inside who was out of his cell overnight. You’re not going to do anything about it?”

Overnight?

Lin Yi, furrowing his brows, looks at the cell before turning to Old Coyote.

He slowly explains, “not overnight, of course. He merely came to visit during courtyard time.”

“If so, he must be going back to his cell soon with courtyard time ending now, right?” Lion is not known for his temper. He is only conversing with the old man and not fighting, because of a simple reason.

Black Glove is dying; he shouldn’t bother.

Black Glove is the eye of the maelstrom. Anyone who is involved with him risks being dragged to the depths with him.

Old Coyote is in a staring contest with Lin Yi. The atmosphere isn’t any less easy.

The old man is not too familiar with him, being in charge of different areas of their operations——Suffice to say, he is still surprised to see him here.

After deliberating, he waves his hand to disperse the wall. The prisoners return, showing them the locked cell behind.

“I’ll go?” Lion decides to take the initiative as Old Coyote and Lin Yi are yet to make a move.

“No need.” Old Coyote turns around. The door, though, opens without his input.

In the momentary silence, they look straight at the person behind the door.

Not Black Glove, but someone else.

The cause of this entire debacle, who they call Bunny.
