Chapter 39 - Sorry, Nai Nai

Upon hearing his brother's reply, Jack's lips twitched, and he growled before pushing his brother aside. The two then continued to bicker as they walked to the car that was waiting for them.

They could have had their driver drove them but their friend, Alex, was at her mother's house which was near Du Mansion, so she offered to pick them up along the way.

At the same time, there were two cars that were driving in.

"Oh, it's Grandma An and Nai Nai," Jack said. He signaled his friend and asked her to wait while he and Lyle went to say their greetings.

Their two grandmothers were seated in the first car. When the driver saw them, he immediately parked the car and went down to open the doors for the two old ladies.

"Grandma An, Nai Nai. How was shopping?" Lyle asked after the two old ladies got down from the car.

Kai Xin's mother, An Qi Yan, smiled when she saw her step-grandsons standing right outside the car. Even though they were not related by blood, but she treated them as if they were her own biological grandsons. Especially since she knew how much their father doted on her daughter.

With a doting gaze, she quickly answered Lyle, "Great! We got a lot of clothes and toys for Little Monkey and your soon-to-arrive brother. Of course, there's something for you guys too..."

She looked at the clothes that the two were wearing and asked curiously, "Are you going out?"

Lyle nodded. "Yeah, we have a party tonight."

"Well, enjoy your party then. We'll tell the staff to leave the stuff in your room."

When the second car finally arrived at the front of the foyer, the female driver came out of the car and went over to open the door for her passenger.

It was another old woman. With her hair tied into a ponytail and her general youthful look appearance showed that she was slightly younger compared to the first two old women. After she got out of the car, she nodded awkwardly at the twins who were waving their hands at her.

"Hi, Lin!" The twins greeted her happily.

Lin was Guang Ying's mother. Due to her previous trauma, she still did not like to hang out with men other than a few like her son, Callum, and the ex-President Ye, Ye Xuanyuan, who saved her from the hell she was in.

However, she had been slowly improving in the past 2 years. For her son, she kept going to therapy and she tried to go out and meet people. From locking herself in the house in the first few months, she had been slowly going out.

First with Guang Ying and Callum as well as Ye Xuanyuan, then she slowly made herself go out by herself. Every now and then, An Qi Yan and Old Madam Du would take Lin out for coffee. If they did not want to go out, they would bring Lin over to Du Mansion.

Perhaps the time she spent in that hell was too long, but Lin's mind had never fully healed, and a lot of the times, she still behaved like a young girl, as if she could not decide on what age she was in.

Despite her sudden outbursts of anger and fear at times, everyone treated her respectfully and they never look down on her.

Even though no one discussed it and that only a selected few knew of what horrifying ordeal she had suffered through, those who were in the dark knew that she had gone through a lot during the 20 years or so period that she was separated from her son.

Lin took a deep breath before she smiled more naturally at them. She then walked over. Once she was standing next to An Qi Yan, she asked the twins, "You're looking so handsome tonight. Are you guys going out?"

With a charming smile, Jack nodded. He knew not to get too near to her. "Yeah, we have a party to attend. We heard that you are going to play poker tonight. Do you know how to play? Mum's pretty good at it and she might win all your money."

Lin nodded. "Xiao Ying taught me before and I've been playing with Xiao Xun at home."

"Good then," Lyle said. He then added, "If Uncle Guang Ying taught you before, then you should be fine. Uncle Callum mentioned before that Uncle Guang Ying was really great at playing poker."

He then glanced at his watch and sighed. "We have to go now or we'll be stuck in the traffic. Bye, Grandma An, Nai Nai. Bye, Lin. Have fun!"

As the twins walked to the BMW that was waiting for them, the three old ladies waved their hands and in unison, they said, "Have fun!"

When the three old ladies arrived at the living room, Kai Xin was pacing around with Little Monkey in her arms.

Little Monkey still missed her father, and after she finished her bottle of milk, she pouted and looked at her mother with her big, bright eyes without saying anything else.

Kai Xin could only sigh and inwardly scold DX for spoiling their little princess. Every night after he fed her, DX would carry Little Monkey and walk around in the garden.

Having known Little Monkey's routine, Han Ye offered to carry her but the toddler refused. She wanted her mother.

In the end, they compromised. Instead of going to the garden, Kai Xin would carry her and pace around inside the house.

As her mother carried her and paced slowly inside the house, Little Monkey sighed contently. Even though it was a downgrade from her routine, Little Monkey had no choice but to accept it.

She knew that her mother was tired from carrying her little brother around.

Little Monkey lightly nudged her mother's belly and thought, "Baby, you fat boy. Come out quickly..."

When Kai Xin saw the three old ladies, she smiled and said, "Oh, Ma, Mum, Lin! You're all here! I think dinner is almost ready, so we can all go to the dining room. Han Ye is joining us as well."

"Kai Xin, you're pregnant. You shouldn't be carrying so much weight on you," Old Madam Du chided. She reached out her hands to Little Monkey and said softly, "Come, Little Monkey. Come to Nai Nai. Let your mum rest."

Little Monkey stuck her tongue out and said, "No!!!"

"Little Monkey, you cannot be so rude to Nai Nai!" Kai Xin said sternly, and she gently tapped on Little Monkey's butt*cks as a warning.

With her eyes wide open, Little Monkey stared at her mother as if her mother had done something grievously wrong to her.

"Crying is of no use. I'm not your daddy, your tears won't work on me. Apologize to Nai Nai now," Kai Xin said sternly. When she was pregnant, she already knew that DX would spoil their daughter senseless. Thus, since she was pregnant, she had to appoint herself as the "bad cop" so that their daughter would not grow into a bad seed.

"Kai Xin, that's enough. She's just a baby…" An Qi Yan frowned and disapproved of her daughter's action. As a mother, she did the same thing to her children, but as a grandmother, the feeling was completely different! Grandmothers did not like to watch their precious grandchildren cry! They just wanted to protect and spoil their precious grandchildren!

Kai Xin frowned. "No, Mum. There's a fine line between being cute and being rude."

Looking between her two grandmothers, Little Monkey wanted to cry for help but she knew that her mother would be upset. So, with a forlorn expression, she turned to her Old Madam Du and apologized.

"Sorry, Nai Nai."

Once she heard Little Monkey's sincere apology, Kai Xin's features softened, and she hugged her daughter tightly. "Good job. That's my precious daughter. Do you want to go to Nai Nai now?"

The toddler shook her head quickly and wrapped her arms around her mother's neck. "No… Mummy hug…"

"She's pretty clingy today…" An Qi Yan said as they walked to the dining area together. She walked behind her daughter so that she could tease her little granddaughter along the way.

Kai Xin knew that her mother was making faces at Little Monkey and no doubt that the toddler was doing the same thing, but since they were just playing now, she did not have the same reaction as before. After all, she was not unreasonable. She knew when her daughter was playing and when she was being rude.

"XiAn is staying out tonight," Kai Xin said and rubbed Little Monkey's back to comfort her. Her husband completely doted on this little one and so, she understood why Little Monkey felt so sad. Having had her husband sleeping beside her every day for so many months, the idea that he would not be there tonight made her sad as well.
