Chapter 40 - It's that woman

"The explosion reported by the news?" Old Madam Du asked when she heard that her son would not be coming back tonight. Even though her son had constantly asked her to stay with them, she preferred to stay in her own house as Du Mansion contained too many memories of her late husband.

Kai Xin nodded. "Yeah. There was a casualty, and you know him, he wants to handle it himself..."

Old Madam Du glanced at Han Ye and asked curiously, "Why are you here instead of with your boss?"

Those two were always together, and before Kai Xin came into DX's life, Old Madam Du had thought that her son and Han Ye were secretly lovers.

"He doesn't want me anymore," Han Ye joked and winked at the old lady.

"What? Let me talk to him." Old Madam Du frowned. She knew that Han Ye was a capable man, and she would prefer having him around DX then having him work for their rivals. Everyone knew that many had tried to poach Han Ye away.

Han Ye laughed softly and shook his head. "I'm joking, Old Madam Du, but thanks for the thought. See, President Du wants to use this opportunity to teach Director Shenlong, so he gave me another assignment instead."

"Is it about the surrogate mother thing?" Lin asked suddenly in a meek voice. Before he left to visit his grandfather, Guang Ying had told her that they had found someone suitable for the surrogacy.

Han Ye nodded. "Unfortunately, it didn't go through. Ms. Xiao had a change of mind this morning."

Lin sighed sadly. She was worried that her son and Callum might be devastated over this news. She knew how picky her son was. He wanted the best possible woman to carry Callum's child... something about IQ and how he did not want their child to be bullied by their high IQ spouse.

"Have you told them?" Lin asked in a sad tone.

Han Ye shook his head. "Since Mr. Luo is busy with his grandfather at the moment, and Director Shenlong is busy as well, I thought maybe I'll wait until they return before I tell them."

Lin nodded. "That would be a good idea. Xiao Ying is really worried about his grandfather now, and I don't want him to be sad over this as well."

Once they arrived at the smaller dining room where a round marble table sat in the middle of the room, everyone took their seats. All the dishes had been served. There was braised sea cuc.u.mber with fish maw, vinegared pork knuckles that was a must-have for Kai Xin whenever she was pregnant, beef stir fry with baby bok choy, and a huge bowl of chicken herbal soup. Of course, 5 bowls of rice as well.

Once Kai Xin was seated, a maid came over to help placed the reluctant Little Monkey on her high chair before she went back to stand at the side.

"Do you want some food, or are you full?" Kai Xin asked Little Monkey while she checked on the harness that was preventing Little Monkey from falling off the chair.

Little Monkey placed her chin on her palm and thought carefully while she looked at the dishes. After a while, she nodded and looked at her mother. "Piggy's feet!"

Kai Xin chuckled. "Yes, boss!"

While everyone ate, she stripped the tender lean meat off a piece of pork knuckle and shredded them before she placed it on a little blue plate with a small portion of rice. Then she drenched some of the vinegary sauce on the rice. "Anything else?"

"Veggie!"

Kai Xin then took some of the beef stir fry with baby bok choy and made sure that they were small enough for her to eat. All the while, the old ladies merely smiled among themselves while they started eating.

Kai Xin could have pushed the job to the staff, but she wanted to raise her daughter with her own hands. The staff would be there to help her if she needed help, but other than that, she would be the one responsible for most of the things. It was what DX wanted as well. Having lost the opportunity to raise his twins from birth, DX spent a lot of time with Little Monkey so that he would not miss the milestones of his daughter as well.

As they were eating quietly while occasionally talking about the things they bought, Old Madam Du suddenly asked, "Ah, Han Ye, how's your dating life?"

"Cough!" Han Ye coughed. He had choked on the piece of meat he was chewing when Old Madam Du asked him that question. Since he was sitting next to Little Monkey, the toddler knew about her manners and reached over to pat him at the back, which brought a collective "awwww" from her grandmothers and Lin.

With all the seriousness she could muster, Little Monkey said, "Han Ye, eat slowly."

Han Ye smiled wryly and thanked her. He was just shocked that the serious Old Madam Du would care about his dating life. "Is there no privacy in this world anymore?" thought Han Ye as he sighed inwardly.

Then he quickly cleaned his mouth and sat up straight before he replied, "Old Madam Du, my dating life is going well."

"Yeah, he's got a date this Saturday. I'm hoping for good news from him," Kai Xin added on with a smirk as she reached over to wipe the sauce off Little Monkey's cheek.

"Madam President Du, please don't give me the pressure," Han Ye laughed wryly.

Suddenly, his phone rang, and he took it out under the table to have a look. "Weird…"

"What's wrong?" Kai Xin asked when she saw that his previously embarrassed expression was replaced by a confused expression.

"It's that woman," he murmured.

"The woman you're supposed to meet this Saturday? She can't wait for you?" Kai Xin teased.

Han Ye shook his head. "No, the supposed surrogate mother that rejected the offer. Please excuse me while I answer this call."
