Chapter 139 - Hann Constructions (XV) D-Day Part Four

*Flashback*

Mirae had called Hyun Jung the night before. Even though KJ told her not to involve him, Mirae knew it would be an idiotic move not to keep him informed.

"Hello, CEO," Hyun Jung answered. "How may I help you?"

"Detective, can you meet me at KJ's other studio?" she asked. "It's urgent."

There was a silence on the other end.

"Alright, CEO," he finally replied. "Give me an hour."

"Alright," Mirae said, hanging up the phone. She grabbed a pendrive and headed out of the house, making sure not to wake Ash.

An hour later, she pulled up in front of KJ's private studio. She knew Hyun Jung was already there; the lights were turned on and only he had the spare keys to the place. She put on her mask and cap, making her way towards the studio.

Hyun Jung heard footsteps approaching him.

"CEO," he bowed down. "Why did you call me here? Is everything alright?"

"Detective, I need your help," she said. "Tomorrow, I will break into Hann Constructions."

"What?" he exclaimed. "Wh-"

"All those details don't matter," she said, holding up her hand. "What you need to do is keep Shun occupied. I know you're investigating him for Ahn Naesung's murder. After all, he had an account at the same bank as CEO Ahn."

"How did you know?" Hyun Jung frowned.

"I've investigated him too," Mirae replied. "Of course I know where he had accounts. But you won't be able to catch him. He has his tracks covered."

She handed him a file. Hyun Jung took and skimmed through. Every page only dejected him more. All his transactions were done with legitimate companies and not even one of them showed any signs of shadiness.

"How the hell are we gonna catch him?" Hyun Jung asked in frustration. "All his tracks are covered, everything is documented and…"

He threw the file away. Running a hand through his hair, he could not help but feel that he had hit a dead end.

"I've spent years chasing the Cartel," he admitted. "I wanted to do something for KJ. After all, he saved me and my mother. And yet…"

He felt helpless and dejected. Mirae understood his feelings. It was very disheartening to see the enemy slip away so easily everytime they tried to corner them. But this time was different. She knew it.

"Don't give up so easily," she said. "There is one thing which you can catch him on."

Hyun Jung looked at her curiously. Mirae took out a laptop and turned on the screen. She inserted the pendrive into it.

The screen flashed to show a girl who looked as if she was drugged and was laid down on a bed. Madam Hong was there too, standing by, stripping the girl of clothes.

"Is this…" Hyun Jung started. "Is this Madam Hong's daughter?"

"Yes," Mirae replied.

"Why are you showing me this?" he frowned. He knows about this tape even though he never saw it himself. The whole thing sickened him. The sight of Madam Hong's death was fresh in his mind. Even though he did not approve of how she was killed, at that time, he did not understand the extent of Song Tamlin's wrath.

But despite himself, the scenes in front of him were forcing him to think that maybe Song Tamlin was not fully wrong in exerting his twisted form of justice.

"Why are we watching this?" he demanded.

"Look who else is there," Mirae pointed at the screen.

Hyun Jung glanced at the monitor and was shocked. The man who was about to start his assault on the helpless girl underneath him, was slowly beginning to grope her everywhere. There was no mistaking the man. It was Shun Oguri.

"That…" Hyun Jung was gaping. "That…"

"That is your leverage against Oguri," Mirae grimaced. She handed him the pendrive. "Use it only when you won't be able to corner him."

"How come Song Tamlin did not get a hold of Shun Oguri?" Hyun Jung questioned her.

"I asked him to," Mirae replied. "I promised him we'll take care of him ourselves."

"And he agreed?"

"I told him that once we destroy Shun Oguri, he can do whatever he wants to him," Mirae revealed. In all honesty, she did not want to take help from him but this was the only way to stop him from interfering in their plans. "I had to use up one of the favors he owes me. I didn't want to but it was necessary."

Hyun Jung nodded. It was their last weapon.

….

Present Day

The whole room was silent. Ash looked from Hyun Jung to Shun Oguri. He did not watch the tape entirely and only had a glimpse of it when KJ played it during Madam Hong's party. But never could he have guessed in his wildest dreams that Shun Oguri was involved in it.

"What are you-" Shun started but Hyun Jung cut him off.

"Don't even try to worm out of this one," he threatened. "I have the video right here."

He took out the pendrive. Shun gulped. Perspiration was forming on his forehead. He took out a handkerchief and began wiping the sweat on his face.

"What happened?" Hyun Jung asked. "Cat got your tongue?"

"I-I…"

"So the President of Hann Constructions is part of a sexual assault scandal?" Ash accused him. "That means you're a criminal! And associating with a drama produced by a criminal is harmful to our damage."

"There seems to be a clause in the contract too," Dasom pointed out, reading the contract in front of them. "It says that if one party is involved in activities which can harm both the parties' image, then the offending party has to repay back almost twenty times the damage cost. And the victim party can back out of the drama."

He turned to Ash. "Well what do you know?" he said gleefully. "We can back out after all!"

"T-this is outrageous!" Shun exclaimed. "It was a consensual encounter!"

"The girl's screams in the video say otherwise," Eli piped up. Hyun Jung had given her a heads up before entering the meeting room. Although he did not specify how he got the video, it was solid evidence which could get Shun Oguri convicted.

"This is enough to lock you up for almost two decades," Hyun Jung said smugly. "Unless you want to cooperate with us?"

….

"Why are you here, Mirae?" Secretary Lee asked her in a calm tone. He had noticed her when she stepped on to the eighth floor but kept his mouth shut. When one of the suspicious employees tried to approach her, Secretary Lee had called upon the staff member in order to distract her.

But now, he caught Mirae trying to break into old man Kwon's office.

"Shh…" she motioned. "Come in and I'll explain."

Secretary Lee followed her in. She shut the door behind her.

"Are there any cameras in here?" she asked.

"I'm assuming you have already disabled them," Secretary Lee replied. He was well aware of her hacking skills and had an inkling that she was already well prepared.

"I did," she admitted. "I need access to Grandpa Kwon's old computer."

"Chairman Kwon's computer?" Secretary Lee asked in surprise. "Why?"

"KJ and I have been planning this for days," she explained. "He believes that Grandpa Kwon's computer may have a clue to his parents' murder!"

Secretary Lee stared at her in astonishment. "How can you be so sure?" he demanded.

"KJ said that Grandpa Kwon kept all his important files in that computer," Mirae said. "He might have some clue in it on KJ's parents' deaths! If we can get the clue, then we can reach the head of the Cartel!"

"The Cartel?" Secretary Lee was alarmed. "Are they after Master Jiwon again?"

Mirae bit her lip. "They sent him direct threats," she confessed. "And…"

"And what?" Secretary Lee demanded.

"He was not attacked by an anti fan that night," Mirae revealed. "He was shot by a member of the Cartel."

Secretary Lee gasped. He had wanted to go and visit Jiwon at the hospital but he was not allowed in due to the heavy security. All he knew was that Jiwon was shot by an anti fan. But the Cartel was now back in his life and things were getting dangerous for him again.

"Secretary Lee, please give me access to Grandpa Kwon's computer," Mirae begged. "If we get to the bottom of KJ's parents' deaths, we might be able to find the head of the Cartel. KJ feels that the head of the Cartel had personally dealt with their assassination."

"I…" Secretary Lee hesitated.

"Please, Secretary Lee," Mirae pleaded.

"I want to help you my child," Secretary Lee said. "But…"

"But what?" Mirae demanded. "What happened? Where is the computer?"

"Grandpa Kwon's computer burned down in an accident," Secretary Lee said. "It caught on fire a few years ago and got destroyed."
