Chapter 140 - Hann Constructions (XVI) D-Day Part Five

Name:The Idol's Wife Author:Tea_Tae
Mirae was shocked. KJ was so sure of the computer holding some evidence…

"It was destroyed in a fire?" she questioned. For some reason it was hard to believe that it was a mere accident.

Secretary Lee nodded. "We don't know how it happened, but a few years ago, we saw smoke coming out of the room. It was late at night and the security guard alerted the fire department. Thankfully, they arrived on time and the fire was doused but…"

"But what?"

"But when we opened the door, we found a dead body inside," Secretary Lee went on. "Till today, we do not know who it was. The body was so badly burnt that all dental records and fingerprints were destroyed. We even ran DNA tests but it did not seem to match any records."

"You have no idea who it was?" Mirae frowned. "Did you check the CCTV?"

"Even the CCTV footage from that night was missing," Secretary Lee said sadly. "We tried everything to recover the footage but it seems that someone turned off the cameras that night just like you did today."

"What happened to that mysterious body?" Mirae asked.

"The police cremated it," Secretary Lee answered. "We kept the whole matter a secret because the company was in the process of a big takeover and it would have hampered our chances. So we kept mum."

"Shit!" Mirae cursed in frustration. She checked her watch. She had exactly five minutes before the cameras are turned on again.

"Secretary Lee," she said in desperation. "There must be something! Some sort of clue which can lead us to KJ's parents' killers! Anything?"

"Master Kwon never told me anything about it," he shook his head. "But he was investigating something right before his death and everything was hidden in his computer…"

Mirae felt dejected.

"Is there anything left from that harddrive of the computer?" she asked.

"It was all burnt down," Secretary Lee replied. He felt her losing her motivation. She was desperate for some sort of evidence but she had no lead.

"Why don't you talk to the lead detective of the case?" he suggested.

"Lead detective?" she asked. "He's alive? I thought the case was closed off as an accident?"

Mirae did not look much into KJ's parents' deaths before but now that she thought about it, there were probably some sort of investigation on it before it was closed. But she could not discount the Cartel's interference in it.

"It was officially closed by the police, yes," Secretary Lee said. "But the lead detective, Goo Soo Bin, is still alive. He retired last year but he was close to Master Kwon. The latter called the detective for many favors over the years. He may have some important data which can help."

Mirae was no hopeful. "Cool I-"

Suddenly her hand watch began to vibrate. She glanced at it to see that it was an alarm she had set. There was only one minute left!

"Secretary Lee, I have to scoot!" she exclaimed. "The cameras have been programmed to turn on after exactly twenty minutes and I have to return to the waiting room!"

"You won't make it on time if you leave through this door," he informed her. "But there is another way."

He led her towards the washroom inside the cabin.

"Where are you-" Mirae started but Secretary Lee strode towards the sink. He pressed one of the tiles. The wall slid open to reveal a secret elevator.

"This will take you straight to the first floor's emergency staircase," he said. "Master Kwon had it built in case trouble brewed inside the building. Even during the fire, I made sure no one finds out about this secret escape route. This way is faster."

"Thank you Secretary Lee," she said in gratitude.

"Good luck, Mirae," he wished. Mirae got into the elevator. She pressed the button to the first floor.

"Detective Goo lives in Busan now," Secretary Lee said as the door was closing. "You can get his address from the police station there!"

"Thanks!" Mirae called out as the elevator's door closed. It was a little shaky due to being unused for a long time but somehow, she managed to reach the first floor's emergency staircase.

And the mission was a failure, she sighed inwardly.

….

"This is enough to lock you up for almost two decades," Hyun Jung said smugly. "Unless you want to cooperate with us?"

Shun Oguri's face was completely contorted with fury and fear. He was quite enjoying interrogating this man.

"We can still reduce your sentence," Hyun Jung said. "If you cooperate with us in the murders of Ahn Naesung and Jung Taewon."

"I have already told you about it," Shun said in frustration. "I know nothing about their murders!"

"Lies," Hyun Jung accused.

Ash checked his watch. There were only thirty seconds left until the cameras came on...

The door behind them opened.

Somi entered the room. She froze upon seeing Hyun Jung but quickly gained her composure. Hyun Jung, on the other hand, did not acknowledge her.

"What did I miss?" she asked everyone.

"We are backing out of the drama," Dasom declared. "We can't work with a molester."

"Molester?" Somi frowned. A burning anger was boiling up inside her.

"The detective here claims that President Shun was part of a tape which showed him sexually assaulting a girl," Ash replied. "And hence, EXOTIC members are pulling out of this drama."

He stood up, staring right into Shun's eyes. There was plain disgust in Ash's expression.

"Let's go, Dasom," he said.

Dasom nodded and turned to Somi. "You can do the drama if you want, but we-"

"Do the drama?" Somi repeated. Her voice betrayed a suppressed rage which surprised everyone in the room. She stepped forward to face Shun Oguri.

WHACK!

She slapped him with all his might. Shun staggered backwards. The whole room was stunned by her action.

But she was not done. She kept on slapping him with all her might. Eli tried to pull her off Shun with great difficulty but Somi was in a blind rage.

"Help me!" Eli yelled at the men. Hyun Jung grabbed Somi's hands and ended up getting painfully scratched while Dasom and Ash tried to help Eli in pulling Somi back.

"You monster!" Somi yelled, still trying to hit Shun with all her strength, trying to break free. "Let me go!"

Shun was cowering in fear. His face was bruised and bloodied.

"You son of a-" Somi cursed.

"Somi, calm down!" Dasom told the enraged girl. The Nation's True Love was not the annoyingly cute girl but a tigress hunting down a prey. Even Ash was surprised by her sheer strength.

"Let's get her out of here!" Hyun Jung yelled over Somi's curses.

"I'll sue her for this!" Shun threatened.

But Somi's rage knew no boundary. She was wild with fury.

"Go ahead!" she challenged. "I'd love to kill you and go to-"

But Hyun Jung shut her mouth with his hand and together with the other three, managed to pull her out of the room.

She was still struggling wildly when they brought her outside. The employees were staring at them in surprise.

"Isn't that Shin Somi?" they were whispering. They were shocked to see the Nation's True Love acting like such an animal. Some of them clicked pictures and took videos of her behavior.

"I'll kill him!" she kept on yelling. They had to drag her outside until they reached a secluded parking lot. Hyun Jung let go of her mouth and grabbed her shoulders.

"Calm down, Somi!" Hyun Jung shouted at her, shaking her shoulders.

"I'll kill him!" Somi threatened, still trying to break free.

Hyun Jung looked at Ash. "You go ahead!" he said. Ash knew what he was talking about. Their time was up and he needed to make sure Mirae had completed the mission.

He nodded and rushed off. Meanwhile, Dasom and Eli were trying to help Hyun Jung keep Somi at bay.

"Eli, go and talk to Shun Oguri," Hyun Jung instructed. "Keep him from taking any legal measures. Dasom, go and call her manager. I'll take care of her!"

Somi was still fighting violently to be let free. They did not want to leave Hyun Jung alone with her.

"Just go!"

Both of them scurried off. Somi was still struggling but Hyun Jung held her firmly. One of her hands struck his face. A nail scratched his cheek, drawing blood.

Only at the sight of his blood did Somi come back to her senses.

"Hyun…" she whispered. "I'm so sorry…"

She quickly used her sleeve to wipe the blood off his face. Tears stung her eyes as she realized that she had hurt him.

"I'm so sorry…" she apologized tearfully. Hyun Jung did not say anything but stared at her as she began to sob. Her sleeve was stained by his blood.

"I'm so sorry…" she repeatedly said. Her worst fear had come true: she had almost hurt him. "I should stay away from you. I don't want to hurt you…"

She was about to back off but Hyun Jung grabbed her bloodied sleeve.

"Who was it?" he asked. His voice was calm but held an underlying anger which knew no limits. At the moment, he was ready to kill as well. Somi felt her spine chill. Her hands were turning clammy with sweat. She dreaded this question.

"Who was it?" he repeated. "Who was it who raped you?"
