Chapter 231: Regret, Huh

In that slight moment where Basil was thinking of something else, Igor used that moment to use the pommel of his sword to smack Basil’s hand. Basil’s sword fell effortlessly down onto the ground piled with autumn leaves. Basil rubbed his aching back hand as he gave a bitter smile.

“Are you feeling refreshed now after bashing me up as much as you wanted to like this?”

Igor had been in a very nervous state after the queen had left the palace. He wasn’t able to focus at all as if he was someone that had his mind completely obsessed about something he couldn’t figure out. Basil commented that the best thing to do in this situation is for him to move and exercise his body without thinking about anything, which was why he brought Igor here. He didn’t realize he would beat up Basil like this, however.

Igor picked up a handkerchief and wiped the sweat dripping from his brow. As he collapsed and sat on the ground, Basil sat down on the ground next to him. Igor’s mouth, which had been shut tight for a while, finally opened up.

“Is there still no news about that hired soldier?”

As the first thing that came out of Igor’s mouth was about the worry in his mind even after having all that exercise, Basil gave a deep sigh.

“Yes. For some strange reason, Count Clovis keeps his mouth closed for about anything related to that mercenary. But the news will still come soon, so please wait just a moment more.”

Until this point, the count’s mouth was easy to pry open and made to spill secrets. He had been completely willing to help in every way possible after hearing that he will leave everything else as it is and only takes the right to succeed to the throne. However, for some reason, he didn’t seem willing at all to talk anything about the mercenary. The viscount’s wife seemed completely ignorant about the mercenary, and because it was only the count that knew anything about the mercenary yet wasn’t willing to say anything at all, all progress stopped at that point.

In the end, that brought wrath to Igor. Igor finally snapped and ordered that he will be killed unless he is willing to talk about who the mercenary is. It was a half-hearted threat, but it would be enough to put fear into anyone’s hearts. That order must have reached him in his cell in the jail by now so he only had to wait for the result. Whether he is willing to talk out of fear of death or still keep is mouth shut which would be surprising.

“The reason why the count keeps his mouth shut is probably that if he were to open his mouth, an even bigger problem may occur.”

Igor thought about just what that could be. He knew that he would end up spilling everything he knows, but he wondered why he was delaying it so much. It was a completely different attitude that the Count had as opposed to what Igor thought he was like.

He actually had a slight worry since a while ago. He wondered that he may have made an oversight on something even bigger than what he may have first expected.

“Now I’m not sure whether sending Rihannan to the royal villa was the right thing to do or not…”

Seeing his expression darken, Basil commented slyly.

“If you’re going to be like this, then follow her to the royal villa. You’ll be able to reconcile with the queen mother while you’re there as well.”

“You are still thinking that I could reconcile with my mother, huh.”

Basil shrugged his shoulders.

“And what’s stopping you? It’s not like the queen mother is willing to take over your political power again. It’s impossible now anyways. Please give her some mercy. It will be too late to regret not doing so once she passes away.”

“Regret, huh…” Igor mumbled to himself in an annoyed tone. “Basil, if the only thing that my mother had taken from me was my political power, then I wouldn’t be hating her as much as I do now.”
