“Then let’s pretend we got to know each other again today.” Owen smiled and held out his hand.

“Okay, it’s nice to meet you, Mr. Owen,” Anita replied mischievously while holding Owen’s hand.

Both of them looked at each other and laughed.

With Owen’s help, the thesis went a lot smoother. Anita quickly got the operational data. After she added the blank part of the thesis, the rest was easy.

But before Anita could relax a little, her mother called.

“Anita…” She called her name and stopped talking.

Anita didn’t understand. “Mom, what’s wrong? Is Daddy not feeling well?”

“No, you dad is recovering very well. It’s just that… Do you still remember the fried chicken shop?” her mother said softly.

Hearing her mother mention the fried chicken shop, Anita remembered that after her parents lost their jobs, they wanted to earn more money, so they mortgaged their house to the bank and used the money they borrowed to open a fried chicken shop.

“I know about the fried chicken shop. What’s wrong? Did something happen?” Anita asked curiously.

“The bank loaner called. He said that if we don’t pay the loan this month, he will take back our house. When that happens, we will have to sleep on the streets. Anita, what do you think we should do?” Anita’s mom was already sobbing.

“It’s all our fault. Why did we open a fried chicken shop? We thought that the business would definitely be booming. The store’s construction had just been finished and it hadn’t opened for business yet, but the supplier ran away.” Anita’s mom continued while sobbing.

Instead of comforting her, Anita wanted to find out what was going on first. After all, this was the only residence her family had. What would happen if it was taken away? “Did you contact the supplier?”

“We can’t get in touch with them. Everyone came because of the delicious taste and the large size for the cheap price. But once the supplier ran away and we couldn’t find cheap supply, sales fell drastically,” Anita’s mom said.

“I’ve spent all the money on your father’s treatment a while ago. How can I have enough money to return to the bank?” The more she thought about it, the more upset her mother felt. She couldn’t help but cry even louder.

It was only then that Anita understood the full situation. Crying like this wouldn’t solve anything, so she sighed softly and said, “Mom, stop crying. Take good care of Dad. I’ll think of a way, okay?”

“Okay, Anita. We’ve dragged you down.” Anita’s mom’s sobs grew louder again.

Anita interrupted her mother directly this time. “Listen to me. I have things to do at school now. Hang up now and go take care of Dad. Don’t worry about anything else.”

“Okay, okay.” Anita’s mom knew Anita was busy and quickly hung up without saying anything else.

Anita was indeed very busy. Recently, the school had arranged a new reception for her mentor. A group of important figures in the academic and business world were going to hold an academic discussion. The standards were very high. Many important figures who had never shown their faces before would also attend. Her mentor had just received notice and immediately asked Anita to be his assistant.

However, just a few days before the event, her mentor suddenly fainted and was sent to the hospital.

After the doctor’s examination results were out, they found out that her mentor suddenly fainted because he was overworked.

Previously, her mentor had been working on an experiment and hadn’t rested much. Now, he was responsible for receiving the guests. His workload was too heavy.

In addition, her mentor was not young anymore. Even the doctor had ordered him not to get off the bed and not to participate in such high-intensity activities. He had to rest for a period of time. Therefore, the task of receiving the guests naturally fell on Anita’s shoulders.

It was her first time participating in such an activity without a mentor by her side. Although she had the help of her seniors, they were also very busy. She was afraid that she would make a mistake and embarrass her mentor.

Regarding the reservation of the hotel, the people from all walks of life who would participate in the meeting would arrive at different times, so the hotel rooms were different. Anita had to confirm it again and again.

She could only set family matters aside for the time being and think of the solution after she was done with this reception task.

When the guest list was released, she had even seen Owen’s name. She intended to greet Owen and hear his report when she had the time, but she was too busy.

Fortunately, after several days of hard work, the meeting went smoothly. All that was left was the banquet tonight.

But Anita was not in charge of the banquet, so she heaved a sigh of relief and prepared to attend the banquet in peace..
