Chapter 140 - BABY

[KYLE POV]

I watched as Deek went to another room. He must have more medical equipment in there though, because when he came back out he was pushing a cart with what looked like an ultrasound machine and a few other things on it.

Deek wasn't even paying attention to anyone other than Jacy. That was good. I wanted him to be focused one hundred percent on my wife and child. I needed to make sure that both of them were safe. And I honestly can't believe that I had forgotten to have him check on my baby sooner. However, I wasn't the only one; apparently we had all been hyperfocused on Jacy and nothing else.

Laremy had moved to help Deek without being asked this time. He was pulling the sheet down around her so that her belly was uncovered and accessible for the machines. Deek was plugging up the machines and getting them booted up.

While he waited for the machines to be ready he grabbed a fetal doppler and a bottle of blue gel. I was glad that Jacy was asleep because she would most likely have yelled at the man when he squirted that shit onto her belly. She didn't protest though; she just laid there and didn't move.

"How far along is she?" Deek asked as he pressed the probe to her.

"Three months, a little over really." I answered him immediately.

"So she is past the halfway point." He didn't say anything else, but moved the probe around until he found the perfect spot to hear my baby's tiny little heart beating.

The sound of that heart meant more to me than I could have ever thought. It meant that my baby was alive. Thank the goddess that the poison had not gotten to the baby yet.

"Will the medicine you gave her affect the baby?" That was the new worry weighing on my mind and heart.

"I don't think so, but it's not something that has been tested before. The fact that Jacy is an Alpha, and so is her mate, means that the baby is strong. That is something that will work in it's favor."

"How did you know he was an Alpha?" EZ asked, and I smirked. I knew that he could sense it, but EZ was only human so he didn't notice it.

"Kyle, like Jacy, gives off a certain aura. Jacy used to hide hers but she has been letting it out ever since she accepted Kyle when we were down south,"Bastian answered him.

"Huh." EZ just acted like that was interesting and didn't say anything else.

Deek wasn't paying attention to us anymore. He set aside the doppler and pulled the ultrasound machine toward him. I watched as he put more of that blue gel onto Jacy's stomach and then pressed the probe of that machine to her belly. He had already found where the baby was sitting with the doppler so he didn't have to search for it this time. It didn't take long for the baby to appear on the screen.

I could see the shape of the baby's head, the curve of the skull, the little nose, the chin, all of it. And there was the line of the spine, and the tiny little heart fluttering in the tiny little chest. There was an arm moving, I could see that clearly. The baby was moving the arm up and used it to block its little face. It was like the baby was telling us 'no pictures please'. I thought that was adorable. My baby already had a little bit of its mother's sass and attitude.

The probe was moved around in different places, and the images would stay there for a little bit. Deek was taking measurements and checking every part of the baby. I got to see the legs, the feet, the tiny hands. I even saw the face of the baby head on and saw that it looked a little bit like Hollywood's idea of an alien. Even that was cute and adorable.

"Did you guys want to know whether it was a boy or a girl?"  Deek asked me. "I can find out for you right now."

"I..I don't know. We have never talked about it. I think we shouldn't though. If she doesn't want to know, then I don't want to find out. We will find out together."

I heard EZ laugh then; he must have thought that my words were funny.

"I don't need a doctor to tell me. I already know what the baby is going to be. I will see if I am right the day it's born." EZ was grinning now, and I saw that Laremy was looking at him with a wondering look. He wasn't saying anymore though so it was dropped after that.

"Alright if you don't want to know, then I won't check. Aside from that, my exam is complete."

Deek flipped the monitor off and put aside the probe. He wiped away the gel and covered her back up.

"The baby is fine, all looked well, and seemed to be moving along nicely. I did take some stills and printed them out for her to see later. I don't know a new mother that would be excited to see their first ultrasound pictures."

I was glad that he was thinking about her. I didn't want her to feel left out later when she found out that the rest of us had all seen the baby during the time that she was unconscious.

"Thank you, Deek. Thank you for all the help." I didn't know what else to say to him.

"Don't mention it, Kyle." He smiled at me. "Laremy is a good friend, and Jacy is still technically a pack member of mine. I am more than happy that I could help out right now. And, like you, I want to know who did this. Jacy is obviously important to all of you, and she was the one who was meant to be my Alpha if I hadn't left the pack."

"Still, thank you." I reiterated my thanks for him, and the others then came forward with theirs.

"Thank you." Bastian shook Deeks hand while EZ still held onto him.

"Thank you, Deek. I appreciate you helping with no prior warning." Laremy smiled at him.

"Thank you for saving my best friend. I don't think that I could ever live without her." EZ looked and sounded like he was about to cry. He was obviously still very upset about everything.

Deek looked uncomfortable for a moment, but smiled nonetheless. After just a little bit of hesitation, he turned to look at all of us.

"I am going to monitor her all night. I don't have work in the morning, thankfully, so I will be here with her. The rest of you can rest as well. Kyle, I presume you won't be leaving her at all, but the rest of you could probably go home for now." He was trying to help us, or at least most of the others, relax a bit.

"I'm not leaving." Laremy was the first to respond. "If something were to happen, you might need my help."

"I'm not leaving either. I want to be here when she wakes up. I know Kyle will see her first, but I want to be there for her as well." EZ spoke as firmly as he could.

"And I won't leave without my fiancè or my friends." Bastian spoke firmly, rounding out that we were all staying put.

"Well, I am very glad that I have a couple of spare rooms. They do have beds, but they are also cluttered with equipment, I apologize for that. But, do make yourselves comfortable."

I watched then as Deek left the room. I heard a door open, and he came back with a stack of blankets. He handed some to each of us with a tired look in his eyes.

"Kyle, there is a recliner in the living room." He jabbed his thumb over his shoulder toward the arch we had come through earlier as he pointed back across the apartment. "We can drag it into here for you to sleep on if you would like. I imagine you don't want to leave her side much at all until she wakes up."

"You are right about that." I wasn't even ashamed to admit that part.

"I will get the chair for you." Bastian spoke almost immediately after I had. He pulled himself away from EZ who then latched onto Laremy.

Bastian moved quickly. He went back through the arch and got what was needed before coming back in less than a minute. To someone as strong as an animal shifter, the chair was light as a feather. Before much time had passed, the chair was positioned next to the bed Jacy was laying in.

"Alright gentlemen. I think it is time that we all took a break and relaxed for the evening. Kyle, do your best to get some sleep. It will be better for you to be rested when Jacy wakes up."

"I will try." I nodded at him as the others left the room.

"I will come back to check on her soon. If you're sleeping, I will do my best not to wake you."

With that, Deek left. I was now alone with my wife as she slept on. I sat in the chair and stared at her face. It was then that I thought about someone else that needed to know about what had happened. I pulled my phone from my pocket and dialed his number. It went straight to voicemail. He must have turned it off so that he could spend time with his new mate.

"Jacy was poisoned at the wedding. I don't know yet who did it, but I will track them down. She is still unconscious, but I wanted you to know." After I described a little more about what happened, I left the address for where we were and told him I would talk to him when we woke up in the morning. He was someone that was close to Jacy as well so I wasn't going to leave him in the dark. As for the Horne family, EZ could tell them about what happened. I wasn't used to dealing with his parents yet.
