Chapter 141 - WAKING UP

[KYLE POV]

I was sitting in the chair with the blanket thrown over me. I didn't even remember putting it on me. I had a feeling that it had been Deek who threw the cover over me when he checked on Jacy while I slept.

The blanket wasn't what woke me up though. The loud, authoritative pounding on the door is what caused me to jerk awake.

"Open the door." I heard a loud, angry voice, and I knew just who it was.

"Who the hell is that?" I heard Deek's confused voice as he came out of a room down the hall. All of us had been up late, and it showed because we were just now being woken up by the knock at almost nine. It wasn't that late, but it was late enough, especially after what happened last night.

"Open the damn door." There was more yelling that accompanied the incessant knocking.

"Don't worry Deek." I called out to him as I rose from the chair. "I know who it is."

"Really? And how do they know where this place is?" He glared at me.

"I told him before I went to sleep."

Deek didn't look happy, but he was quiet as I went to unlock and pull the door open. On the other side of the door was Lucian. He looked tired and slightly disheveled, but he was dressed in his detective's finest line of suits and I could see a murderous look in his eyes.

"Tell me you know something." He demanded of me as he stormed into the room.

"Not yet, but I have someone working on it." I just shut the door and followed him. "Come on, she's in here."

Lucian was another person that was like a brother to Jacy. I knew that they had history, but that was more than a decade ago, and the split was mutual. Not to mention Lucian had his own mate now so I didn't have to worry about him anymore.

"What the hell happened?" He asked me when he saw Jacy lying on the bed, still and sleeping.

"I don't know how it happened. But when I went to take her home at the end of the wedding, she got to where she was not able to move, and she passed out. When she wouldn't wake up no matter what, I started to panic a little bit."

"And you brought her here instead of going to the hospital?" Lucian looked angrier now.

"Are you forgetting, Lucy, she's not human. And Deek here is a doctor so all is good." EZ had just walked out of a room with Bastian and Laremy in tow.

"All is not good, Ezekiel. Jacy was attacked. We need to find out who did this so I can kill the son of a bitch." Lucian was a lot angrier than I had ever seen him.

"Lucy?" EZ looked shocked. "For one thing, I am not even going to touch on the fact that you didn't yell at me for calling you Lucy instead of Lucian. And for two, did I just hear those words come out of your mouth?"

"Yeah? I thought you were the plausible deniability type."

The voice we heard was behind me, and every single one of us turned or moved in some way to see the person who had spoken.

"Jacy?" I ran to her side and took her hand. "How are you feeling?"

"Well I have a massive fucking headache, and most of my body feels like it was run over by a semi truck, though my throat, chest and stomach are the worst of it all. Other than that I think I am fine." I stopped her when she went to sit, preferring that she rest and stay covered a little longer. "Where the hell am I?" She asked as she saw that she wasn't anywhere that she remembered.

"Hello Jacy, it's good to see you again." Deek walked to her side.

"DEACON?!" She nearly screamed his name when she saw the man standing next to her.

"It's been a long time, Jacy. I would ask how you are, but since I had to save your life last night, or rather very early this morning, I kind of already know." Deek grinned at her while he spoke. He was smiling like he had finally gotten to talk to an old friend.

"Oh my Goddess, Deek! I can't believe it's you." She started to look around the room after that, at everyone that was gathered. "Are we still in Boston?"

"Yup, funny, isn't it?" I watched as they just stared at each other. Jacy's eyes were filled with shock and awe, but Deek's were filled with nostalgia. His bright yellow green eyes shining in complete contrast to his dusty-colored hair. "I never told anyone where I was going, and you ended up going to the same city. Soon, I expect you to tell me what happened back home. Not now, but soon."

"You can guess what happened, or rather who." They looked at each other like they held secrets that none of us knew. Maybe I did still have to worry about someone.

"Jacy?" EZ ran forward and almost pushed Deek out of the way. The fact that he was just human, and a small one at that, that was an amazing show of strength.

"EZ!" He threw his arms around her as Jacy said his name, and they hugged tightly.

"I was so worried about you. You can't worry me like that. I thought I lost you."

"I'm fine EZ. I'm sorry that I worried you." She was rubbing his back and soothing him even though she was the one who had been sick.

"Oh shush, I should be comforting you right now. I'm just so relieved to see you awake."

"How long was I out for anyway?" She was looking at me now over the top of EZ's head.

"Not long, less than twelve hours." I answered right away.

"And what exactly happened to me?" Now she was starting to look angry, like she knew that someone did something. "Lucian said I was attacked, but I don't remember anything."

"You were poisoned. I don't know how, and don't know exactly when or by who, but it happened at the wedding."

"Wait? I was poisoned?" There was genuine fear in her eyes now. "How bad was it? How is the baby?" She wasn't asking how she was, she was worried about our baby.

"The baby is fine." Deek told her as he walked to the side table near her bed. "I did an ultrasound and checked on the little cub."

At that point, he handed the printouts to her, and we all watched as her eyes went wide.

"Th..th..that's my b..b..b..baby?" She was stunned. I know how she felt though. We shifters have faster pregnancies than a human so after just a little more than three months she was like five months for a human and seeing how much the baby had grown was such a real shock.

"Yup, that's your baby. I didn't check if it was a boy or a girl. Kyle said he didn't want to know unless you wanted to. So he was waiting for you." Deek looked at me for a second then smiled back at Jacy. "If you want to know, I can do another scan." He offered immediately.

"No, I think it would be better to be surprised. I mean, these last three months have been nothing but one shock after another." She was smiling, but the words didn't sound all that pleasant.

"Now, why does it sound like there is a story behind that?" Deek smirked.

"Probably because I met her just a little over three months ago." I grinned at him. "Say hello to instant mating and instant family."

"Talk about fate." Deek laughed.

"Jacy didn't see it that way." EZ Laughed.

"Can we get back on track here?" Lucian growled. "We need to find the culprit behind this. We're going to find him, and then he is going to disappear."

"I will say this again, Lucian, I thought you were the plausible deniability type." Jacy was laughing as she still laid back on the bed.

"No one hurts our Jacy without being punished for it." Lucian looked determined and pissed. I was glad that he was on our side right now. Actually, I was glad that all five of these men were on our side, even if they were technically only here because of my wife. They all, one way or the other, had something to do with my mate. She was good at drawing people to her, that was for sure.

Thinking about this for some reason made me think that the culprit behind this poisoning was a woman. Someone that was jealous of my wife. She usually made men either want her or want to work for her. But women, now they are a different story, women I have noticed, if they're not mated and are insecure, then they are hostile toward her.

I guess I just need to make sure that I protect my wife even more. I don't know if I will ever let her out of my sight again. Not without someone there to protect her, a GPS tracker, and a life alert button, and whatever else I could force on her to keep her safe. I was never going to let this happen to her again. And I would be damned if this ever happened to my kids either. The one she was carrying and any future ones. They would think of me as the overprotective daddy, but I won't care as long as they're safe.
