Chapter 139 - SAVING JACY

[KYLE POV]

After I set my wife down in the other room, I watched on in panic as the wolf started to examine her. He was hooking monitors and wires up to her to keep track of her vitals.

"Laremy, be the nurse for me." The wolf was ordering around the only other one among us that had medical knowledge.

"Sure thing, Deek." Laremy went to Jacy's side in a hurry and effectively blocked most of her from sight.

When I looked over, I saw that EZ was holding onto Bastian's waist. There were a lot of emotions warring in his eyes and on his face: fear, worry, dread, anger, sadness. Not a single one of the emotions he was feeling seemed to be a positive one.

Looking at EZ's face and the tense way he was holding his body was not making me feel any more calm than I had been before. I felt my heart rate speed up and my stomach sink at the same time. What had happened to my wife? What had caused this? Did someone do this to her?

My mind was a jumbled mess of questions, worry, and rage. And because of that jumble I was unable to sit still. I ended up pacing back and forth through the room while the doctor drew blood, swabbed my wife's mouth, and inspected her body.

He had stripped her down to her bra and panties and I wanted to scream and roar with fury, but I knew he was just doing his job. I watched as he looked all over her body, every inch of exposed flesh.

"What are you looking for?" I asked him, impatience in my voice.

"A puncture wound, just in case she has been poisoned. I have the blood being tested for a quick kit right now. It won't be able to detect everything, but it will tell us about the majority of the most common substances around."

His words made my ears ring, and my heart stop altogether. Poison? Did he just say poison? He thinks someone might have poisoned my Jacy? Oh, I swear by everything that I am as an Alpha, I will hunt whoever did this down and kill them slowly.

Just then there was a timer that dinged, and the doctor, Deek, left Jacy's side. I wanted to scream at him to keep trying to help her, but I also knew that he needed to check that test. Dammit, everything inside of me was at war with itself.

"Just like I thought." His voice was soft yet angry as he started pulling drawers open and grabbing different things.

"What? What's going on?" I demanded an answer right away.

"She was poisoned, thankfully by something common. They used Datura, also known as jimson weed." He had pulled out several things and was already heading back to Jacy's side.

"How serious is that?" I heard the tears in EZ's voice as he asked the question before I could.

"If I don't treat her soon, it could kill her. However, with her being a wolf she doesn't get all the typical effects of the poison. She is likely to only suffer from the effects that cause respiratory distress, tachycardia, and temporary paralysis as well as the sleep inducing effect. I need to pump her stomach and give her activated charcoal since it was most likely put into her food or drink, and I will be giving her physostigmine to counteract the effects of the poison. I will treat the individual symptoms from there."

He was explaining it, mostly, in easy to understand phrases, but I knew what he was meaning anyway. I may not know what the medication was based on the name he used, but I knew that he was going to help her as best as he could.

"Laremy, help me with the tube."

I watched as Laremy took a tube from Deek. Meanwhile, Deek injected something into the IV he had put into Jacy's arm and then began spraying the back of Jacy's throat with something from a silver can.

"What is that?" Bastian asked him.

"The first was physostigmine; this one now is a numbing spray to eliminate any gag reflex." Deek answered, but didn't look our way, the same as he had done before.

After the throat was numbed, Laremy placed the tube into Jacy's throat. Slowly, They pushed the tube further and further down. Just watching it disappear inside of her mouth made me want to gag and wince at the same time.

'Jacy, my love, I am sorry this is happening to you. I will find who did this to you, I promise.'

"OK, Laremy, I will spray the fluids, you grab that bucket for me." Deek's instructions kept coming.

"Sure thing, Doc." Laremy was following the orders perfectly and doing as he was asked without a single complaint.

I watched as first the black fluid was sent through the tube. After that process was done, suction was applied to the tube and the flow reversed. All of that black liquid as well as other fluids were coming out of the end and going straight into the bucket Laremy had prepared.

After all the liquids had stopped flowing, I watched as the process was repeated. After the charcoal had been used twice, Deek used the tube to flood Jacy's stomach with what looked like saline and sucked it out. That happened twice as well, making sure that Jacy's was rid of the poison and the charcoal. I just hoped that worked. I needed to see her wake up and get better.

"That is all we can do for now, except treat each individual symptom as they arise. She doesn't seem to have too many at the moment, so I think the best we can do until then is to just monitor her." At that point, he covered my wife in a sheet and a soft blanket to cover her up.

Finally, Deek looked over to the three of us that had been waiting. I could see that he was still worried, but less so than when we first came into the apartment.

"OK, I think it is time that we try to figure out the mystery now that the emergency is over." He was giving up a smile, but the seriousness was still there.

"First, how is it that you know her again?" Laremy was the first to ask anything before I even managed to open my mouth.

"That's an easy one. Before I moved all the way up here to the big city, I lived in a quiet little town in Tennessee that happened to be the home to Jacy's pack. What isn't so easy for me to answer though, is what in the world is Jacy doing here?"

"She's lived here for over twelve years now." EZ answered that one for me. "She is like a part of my family."

"So she didn't take over the pack? I heard that her parents died a long time ago. And I see that she is married now. You're the husband, I presume." He looked at me and held out his hand.

"Yeah, Kyle Donovan."

"Nice to meet you Kyle, my name is Deacon Clancy, but everyone calls me Deek."

"It's a pleasure. Thank you, Deek, for saving my wife." I put as much gratitude as I could into those words as I shook the man's hand.

"Well, she was a good friend of mine before I left the pack. She was one of the few that didn't have a problem with my proclivities." I saw the grin on his face as he spoke.

"Yes, let's just say that a while back, Deek and I knew each other very well. But that has been years now, so nothing to worry about." Laremy was looking at EZ with apologetic eyes.

"The two of you?" Deek looked confused. "I thought the two of them?"

"They're both mine." EZ answered quickly. "It's a long story." A smile played at his lips.

After that, we all sat down and started trying to work out exactly how this happened. We all knew that no wolves had been around Jacy, especially at the wedding. We had all kept a really close eye on her for the last several days. The only conclusion that I could come up with then, was someone on the waitstaff or in the kitchen.

That meant that the person responsible was in my pack. And that, of course, meant that I would need to purge some people soon. First though, I needed to call Baxter.

"I can only guess that something is terribly wrong." Baxter sounded tense when he answered the phone. "It's very late not to mention that it is your wedding night, even if it is the second one. There is no way in hell you would be calling me unless something happened." He was very on top of things, that was good.

"Someone at the wedding poisoned Jacy." I told him in a flat tone.

"Holy shit? Is she alright? How is the baby?"

That was when it hit me. I had been so worried about Jacy that I hadn't even thought about the baby. I am a horrible father to be.

"We don't know how the baby is. We will get to that soon enough; however, Jacy is stabilized for now."

"Alright Boss, I will watch security footage and start investigating immediately. I promise you, I will find the culprit."

"Thank you." I nodded, relieved.

After I hung up, I looked at the doctor behind me, I saw the grave look on his face, and I knew my look matched it. All of us were wearing the same expression.

"I will check on the baby now."
