“I heard you met Eva?”

“Ah, yes.”

Crash.

The sound of the two giants fighting echoed in the Sun Palace training court.

Karlos dodged Brigitta’s left attack and answered leisurely.

Both of them moved beyond human limitations but none of them were out of breath or tired during the conversation.

“She was lost.”

“Oh, she must have panicked. How did you find her?”

“Uh… somehow?”

Boom. Crash. Rumble.

The training court floor broke like it was bombed at every movement.

Brigitta jumped off the wall to kick the Emperor’s head but he moved back and dodged it.

The ground where she landed cracked like a spider web.

It was a violent fight that people would misunderstand that they loathed each other.

“Aren’t you busy after the Harvest Festival?”

“I am busy but, well… I’m always busy anyway. It’s alright. By the way, where should I meet you?”

This time, Karlos attacked.

His coal-black sword emitted a chilling blue aura.

Brigitta fought back with her aura sword. The two swords collided with each other and created a bloodcurdling sound.

“Something fountain square… Head fountain? Metal head…?”

“Ah, the Iron-headed fountain square. I know where that is.”

Karlos’s foot slid behind Brigitta.

With a loud bang, Brigitta was pushed off the other end of the court.

Before Brigitta could even brace herself, Karlos’s sword was an inch away from Brigitta’s neck.

Damn it, you son of a–

Brigitta slurred in Holkan.

The Emperor raised his brows hearing her swear.

“You do know that I understand Holkan to some extent right?”

“What are you going to do? Strike me?”

“No, I’m just saying I understood what you just said.”

Karlos helped Brigitta on her feet and grinned.

Brigitta was always so competitive.

She grumbled as she brushed off the dirt on her knees and shoulder and tittered after glancing outside the court.

“What are you going to do with that one?”

“I wish I knew…”

Karlos placed his hand on his forehead.

He got played.

‘I’m still in the palm of his hands. I should have known that Glenn would have done this!’

He groaned at his idleness.

Outside the training courts, the space above the wall.

A young man in a white and black servant uniform was staring with awe with his mouth wide open.

He, the handsome man who was holding the broom in one hand, was the crown prince of Cartul Diego.

*.·:·.☽✧    ✦    ✧☾.·:·.*

Karlos never wanted to take responsibility for that bomb.

He wanted to send Diego back as soon as possible to avoid any tension with Cartul in the future.

But to his left, there was the b*tch on fire Maximilien, and to his right, there was the demon Glenn.

Their unison was catastrophic. Even the Emperor himself wasn’t confident he could protect Diego nevertheless himself.

Sabina did say cruel things about Diego but the Emperor knew that Sabina cherishes her family.

She handed Diego out of anger at the moment but soon she would start requesting his return.

Karlos contemplated about this for 2 days and decided to tell the Foreign Affairs Department to put Diego up as an international student so he could be sent back to Cartul at any time.

Karlos struggled to shut Diego up during the process.

He kept trying to announce that he was in fact kidnapped here so Karlos grabbed his mouth and hurriedly signed the papers with the church priest.

Then, Marquis Villiore visited soaking with sweat.

By experience, Karlos knew that his sweating was a sign of bad news.

“U, uh. Your Majesty. His royal highness Diego already has a work visa for employment in the palace… His departure is difficult at the moment…”

It was bad news like he expected. A piece of utterly ridiculous news.

Karlos and Diego spoke simultaneously.

“What? He is?”

“What? I am?”

“Yes. Uh, as the servant of the Magic Department…”

Karlos almost swore in front of the priest.

Karlos jumped out of the window and ran to the Shared Office. The crown prince, the Foreign Affairs Minister and the priest remained in awkward silence until the head butler came to escort them out.

A newbie officer saw the Emperor crawl up the wall and fainted. Karlos handed the officer to the knight walking by and went over to his work table in the Shared Office.

On top of the new daily stack of documents, there was an employment contract.

He read through the contract full of traps–most likely the Chancellor’s work–and summarized the contract to the following.

The employer (Maximilien Rumilesa Gardelli) hires the employee (Diego Siraq Cartul) to the Magic Department and will pay the employee collectively at the end of this contract.

The employer must agree to the breach of the contract before the listed duration of 1 year and postponement of the breach is possible until the next candidate is available.

If the employee wants to breach the contract immediately, he must pay 20 times the salary at once.

It was, in simpler words, a slave contract.

Even worse, the contract was already signed by the employer (Duke), the witness (the Chancellor), and the guardian (Sabina).

Oh my, Sabina! You must be out of your mind!

“This is a fraud!”

The Magic Department didn’t need servants.

Since Duke Gardelli was the only member of the Magic Department.

And the pay for this was as extravagant as Duke Gardelli’s reputation.

20 times this money would be enough to buy two castles.

But no. That wasn’t the worst problem here.

Putting Maximilien and that crown prince together in one room?

A snake and a mouse together in a cage would have a higher survival rate.

Karlos glared at the Foreign Affairs Minister’s stamp.

“Why! Did! He! Stamp! This! He should have gone through it more carefully!”

Guessing by the word ‘Urgent’ written in the Chancellor’s handwriting, Marquis Villiore seemed like a victim too but Karlos needed to blame someone right now.

The secretary of the Foreign Affairs Minister faced the Emperor’s deadly glare and cursed his boss.

What the hell did you do, Lord Villiore!

When the secretary was just about to resign from this darned job, Karlos turned away.

To be more accurate, he was ducking and pulling his hair.

No one laughed at the secretary crab-walking out of the Emperor’s sight.

The Emperor’s glare was that scary.

Everyone looked down and held their breath praying for the Emperor to calm down.

When the frustrating and awkward silence passed by slowly, Karlos finally gave up and banged his head on the table.

Most of the officers fainted and the Emperor’s painful screams echoed from the Shared Office.

“I wonder why the black-haired lunatic just left that thing here and left.”

“Maybe Max left him here for you to decide his life and death? I’d prefer it if you let him live.”

“You think I’m like your cousin?”

Fortunately, nothing terrible happened.

Maximilien seemed to really consider Diego as a ‘gift’. He simply gave Diego–who was dressed in the servant uniform and wrapped in actual shiny wrapping paper– to Brigitta and told her to use him as much as she wants.

It was in fact the Chancellor that was causing more trouble.

The Chancellor started mentally abusing Diego by pointing out every spot that wasn’t cleaned thoroughly.

Because of that Diego was frightened every time he saw the Chancellor. The Emperor expected the worst of worst such as Diego’s limbs being cut off by them or Diego turning into a frog or something but fortunately, nothing as bad happened.

It was partly because Gardelli and the Chancellor were busy with the Harvest Festival and the West case.

“I don’t have time to look after that kid. I’m already busy with other stuff…”

“Ah, right.”

Brigitta groaned and massaged her neck.

It was just like Eva said.

The journalists started following Brigitta around like a predator.

Brigitta regretted her ignorant thinking that she would be fine.

Those humans would survive like a cockroach even when put in the middle of the war.

She gritted her teeth.

Asking for a few words after her work shift was over was still tolerable.

Since Eva helped her out and Brigitta just had to remain silent.

But they even waited in front of their house for days until the City Hall stopped them.

And now they barged into the Royal Knighthood to request, no demand for an interview.

The Chief Commander was so infuriated with Brigitta.

“Can’t you do anything about that? Like ban them from entering or something? Or like scaring them?”

“I can’t do that…”

“Why not?”

“Freedom of press…”

Karlos scratched his cheeks awkwardly.

“Damn it, even Eva talked about that. Is that really that important?”

“It is important… Anyway, just try to tolerate it for today. I’ll deal with it as soon as possible after the Harvest Festival today.”
