The ‘Morning of Glory’ was a newspaper that was nothing different than gossip pages but it was still acknowledged as media.

The previous Emperor would have done differently but the current Emperor did not try to control media.

The current Emperor ruled fairly and favorably for the commoners ever since he succeeded the throne.

In simpler words, the current Emperor could remove this small newspaper company with a flick of his finger but he chose not to.

Eva liked and supported the Emperor because of his morals and ethics.

But Eva thought it was better for everyone if newspaper companies as irrational as ‘Morning of Glory’ were controlled.

The newspaper was a fun read since the titles were suggestive and scandalous and because they carried information from anonymous informants. But if one read it with close attention, anyone could find out that their logics is full of cr*p and that its sole purpose is to mock, no, scorn the current Emperor.

And even more ridiculously, it sold well.

“Gosh, they write so foully!”

Brigitta squeezed the paper cup in her hand.

The paper cup tore immediately.

She glared at the newspaper, mumbling something in Holkan.

Guessing by her facial expressions, she must be swearing.

“I agree. This is too much. They are writing a novel not a newspaper.”

“Do people actually believe this?”

“Hmm. The younger generation just dismisses it as bullsh*t but I heard the older generation take some part for real.”

Eva started swearing too.

Even though she looked fragile because of her cute appearance and small body, she was from a low social class who grew up in the impoverished, dark side of town where the only light that could be found were cigarette lights reflected on dagger blades.

She could swear as vile as that even Brigitta would be shocked but Eva just didn’t swear normally.

The two ladies exchanged contemptuous comments of the ‘newspaper along with all sorts of vulgar swear words.

“If this person submits his journals in a writing competition, he will win 1st place in the fantasy novel section!”

Eva pointed at the name, ‘Lockhart’ printed on the newspaper.

Even though Eva disliked the City Hall because of personal reasons, this was too much.

Eva and Brigitta met investigators who were doing a proper investigation.

So this paper was nothing but to disrupt the investigation just because they don’t like the City Hall and the Emperor.

And on top of that, Ha.

Eva scoffed in a high pitch.

“It’s like this person doesn’t want TT to be caught?”

Brigitta frowned at the tone of the journalist that sounded like he/she was looking forward to the next murder.

Eva agreed.

“Right! I’m certain this journalist wants to write more of these cr*p. Also, look at this!”

Eva pointed at one corner of the article.

There was a portrait of the couple that was murdered and a drawing of their house.

“Yeah?”

“This is so unnecessary and disrespectful! Anyone could see that this house is the one next to ours!”

When Eva slammed the table with her small hands, Brigitta flinched.

W, what was wrong with that?

She blinked her golden eyes and looked at the newspaper and back at Eva.

Brigitta wondered if she missed anything but nothing came to mind.

Eva looked at the sword master’s clueless face and sighed.

A young, naive, immigrant. It was a bad combination.

Eva worried, not acknowledging that Brigitta was just a year younger than her.

“Did anything happen today? Like a journalist visiting perhaps.”

“Uh, I think something did happen…”

Brigitta recalled the Chief Commander this morning and nodded. He was yelling at her about something called a yellow paper and broke his table into two.

Eva pressed her temples.

“Did anyone ever say anything bad to you because you are Holkan? Do people bully you at work?”

“What? No? Uh, well there are a few people that dislike me…”

Brigitta was a Holkan but before that, she was a Genovian.

She was used to getting discriminated against and looked down on so she didn’t really count gossiping and a little bit of harsh treatment as bullying.

Also before all this, she was in Herssen which had many Holkans because it was in the North and Margrave Siefred favored her very much.

Thanks to all that, she never thought she was getting harmed because she was an immigrant for the past 8 years.

There were some people who were a little jealous of her in the Royal Knighthood but all the knights passed the personality interview when they entered so no one scorned her for being Holkan.

“Hmm, then that’s a relief. Take a look at these, I had some time so I gathered some things.”

Eva pulled out a scroll of newspapers from her bag.

Brigitta still didn’t fully understand what was going on but she brought another table so that Eva could spread the newspapers easier.

Eva spread open the papers one by one. There were some articles about murderer TT and some that were not.

Immigration policy that only fattens the foreigners’ wallets, is it really okay?

The city hall purposely hiding murderer TT, exclusive coverage!

The culprit of the robbery was a Holkan female. ‘We do not consider ourselves as citizens of this country.’

Brigitta looked through these provocative titles.

“Do they hate Holkans?”

“It seems like it. That’s why I was a little surprised that you weren’t included in these articles yet. I guess your boss stopped that from happening. That’s a relief.”

Eva tapped the table with her finger.

“However, they all know who the victims are and where they lived. Also, that they were scammers. People will soon find out about you getting scammed by them because I reported it to the police that time. And you are a sword master trained by the Emperor himself. These people will hunt you down.”

These people probably don’t care whether a person had died or not.

They just want to harm the Holkan sword master and the Emperor with any way possible.

Since they mentioned that murderer TT could have a motive to kill, they must be preparing to say whatever bullsh*t to make Brigitta a suspect.

“Uh, but I don’t think I can be hunted down…? I’ll win.”

Brigitta was curious.

What was the big deal with a fistfight?

She was a Genovian known for their strength and fighting ability so she couldn’t understand why Eva was so serious about this.

The media or the journalists were just pathetic, weak people who enjoyed causing turmoil.

To be frank, even if they attacked her all at once Brigitta was confident that she could defeat them.

“I don’t mean it like that.”

Eva said firmly.

This was not a physical war.

When the Emperor started restraining all kinds of violence, the wicked people started enjoying new kinds of violence.

“Honestly speaking.”

Eva placed her hands on her waist.

She took a deep breath and looked at the handsome sword master sitting politely in front of her.

Her clever emerald eyes pierced through Brigitta.

“I think I’m stronger than you in these things.”

Maximilien came back to his mansion after a long time.

He ignored the butler’s scolding and searched the library.

There was a rumor that the library of the Gardelli family that had a long line of magicians, had even more rare books than the Palace library and it was partly true.

Excluding the magic towers, the Gardelli library would probably have the most abundant rare magic books.

Of those rare books, many were about curses and ancient sorcery so only magicians that surpassed a certain level of mastery could enter the Duke’s library.

“Oh, it’s been a while. You cheeky magic books… If you don’t stay still I’ll burn you slowly with heated metal. You’ve seen what happens if I do that right? I know you all understand me.”

The books in the corner started trembling at Maximilien’s sonorous voice.

One of the books even served him a drink on its surface in an attempt to flatter him.

Another book spitted out dust and its bookmark and proceeded to pretend like it was dead on the floor and avoided his eyes.

Maximilien looked at the books and made a blazing smile.

“I’m looking for a book related to gates. Bring them to me?”

He sat on the trembling mimic* at the corner and drank the lemonade the book brought.

Cartul, Cartul.

Maximilien thought about the ancient and grand palace he caused so much trouble in.

It was grand but in his perspective, it was a small place that had nothing remarkable.

And that tiny country managed to do this?

He wasn’t a patriot but Maximilien believed and was certain that Lesa was stronger and more abundant than any other country.

He wasn’t a logical person but even he knew with a reason that Cartul was too small to backstab Lesa like this.

They couldn’t even stop Maximilien.

Cartul was not a country that had the balls to conspire with the West that antagonized the Emperor.

Oh, Sabina would have the balls.

But she wouldn’t do such a thing. Maximilien was sure of that.

Ha, beyond that all this wouldn’t have happened if his cousin brother wasn’t this soft in the first place.

“I don’t have time for this.”

Maximilien glared at the stacked magic books and grumbled.

He was dying to go see his beloved lily.

He wanted to give her the gift he got for her from Cartul and wanted to hear her voice.

Oh, my love.

When he thought about Brigitta, his face melted.

It was a pity that the ‘gift’ he got for her ran away.

That’s why Maximilien had to submit to the Chancellor and follow his orders until the Chancellor returned the ‘gift’ safe and sound, decorated with wrapping paper.

If he didn’t like the wrapping paper, Maximilien would have not helped the Chancellor but he really liked it.

I hope my love will be thrilled by the gift.

He stepped on the mimic and the cursed books and decided to get his job done.

The books started flying.

~vocab of the chapter~

Mimic: It’s a fictional monster. It is portrayed as being able to change its shape to disguise its body as an inanimate object, commonly a chest. (search it up if you are curious it’s terrifying XD)

TL/N: Remember Genova, the tribe that has been captured under Holka? Genovians are technically Holkans now but they used to be on their own before Holka defeated them.

Also, the ‘gift’ Maximilien is thinking about is Diego XD and ‘wrapping paper’ is a metaphor.
