"Mand, here's the thing. I'm at the JR Hospital, and I don't know where you are." Bruce propped up a hand on the car window as he looked up lazily. The evening sky was dyed the color of sunset.

"How did you know I'm at the hospital?" Mandy looked down and saw that the street was full of people. Many of them just got off from work.

It was the biggest rush hour of the day in City A.

Bruce smiled and answered, "It wasn't that difficult to figure. Anyway, I have something to tell you. Come downstairs so we can find a place to sit."

"But... Is it that important?" Mandy frowned, unsure.

"Yes, it is." Bruce nodded with certainty.

"Okay. Go straight for fifty meters from the back door of the hospital. There is a tranquil coffee shop named 'Opposite The Time' at the corner. Wait there, and I'll join you in ten minutes." Mandy scratched her head. It was time for Nathan to pick Elizabeth up. She had to talk to Bruce now so she couldn't afford to waste any more time.

"Alright." Bruce drove out of the hospital once he hung up the phone. He headed for the café as Mandy described.

Mandy tidied up her hair and clothes. She strapped on her back pack and calmly said, "Mom, There's something I need to deal with. You stay here and keep an eye on Adrian. I'll be back in an hour."

"What is it? What's the matter? We're having dinner later. Remember?" Madeline was confused.

"I will be back before dinner." Mandy smiled.

"All right. Go ahead. But come back early!" Madeline didn't ask much about Mandy's whereabouts or whom she was meeting. She was very open-minded nowadays. It was Mandy's business, and she shouldn't be too bothered by it. She had always worried about Mandy a lot in the past.

She smiled and walked out of the hospital.

Bruce sat at a table by

uld rise from being an ordinary high school math teacher to the position of deputy director of the Education Bureau. Although Nacy had helped him get into the bureau, he'd relied more on his own efforts to get where he was.

He had continuously adapted the new Math textbooks over the last three years. He often worked alone in his office till midnight, so the director of the bureau was quite pleased with him. He was the most likely candidate to replace the outgoing director who would be retiring the following year.

"Why did you want to see me, brother Bruce?" Mandy said slowly as she bowed her head to take another sip.

"How are things going between you and Nathan?" He sounded frigid. It was hard to guess what he was thinking.

"Everything's fine between us. What's wrong?" She was silent for a while before asking him.

"Did he go to work today?" A smirk formed at the corner of his mouth.

"Yes. What's wrong?" Mandy was confused and didn't know what he wanted to say.

Why had he asked about Nathan? Had he found out some secret?

"Mand, you might not be happy to hear what I'm going to say, but I still want to say it. I don't want him to keep you in the dark," Bruce answered solemnly.
