The Sus Bank had business dealings with many companies, but none was as big a relationship as the one with JS International. The termination of this cooperation was a massive loss for them.

"It's none of my business." Eve sounded soft and tender as she continued playing dumb. She dared not tell him that Nathan had talked to her privately.

Shaun was silent for a moment. When he spoke, his tone was cold. "Eve, what have you done to the Jin Family?"

Shaun remained patient. After all, the relationship had already been terminated. He couldn't change the result now. He only hoped that his daughter could be more sensible.

Eve persisted with her dumb act. He had no way of seeing her expression as they were not speaking face to face. It was late autumn, but she was sweating due to the tension. She put up a resolute front.

"What could I possibly have done to them?" she mockingly countered, a weak smile plastered on her face. She had hoped that she would have the power to threaten Nathan to marry her.

But it turned out that even she had overestimated herself.

Her only hope now was that Adrian's condition would continue to deteriorate so that she would have a chance. Eve knew that Ouyang was helping Nathan work out an antidote. She was also aware that there was none available yet since it couldn't be developed in a short time.

Madeline poured a glass of water and handed it to Mandy. She smiled as she said, "Rest a little, will you! You seemed to be reading that book the whole afternoon. Are you studying for a doctorate?"

Mandy lightly set the book on the tea table. Her red lips formed into a slight smile. "No. It's just that reading calms me down."

"Did you buy it?" Madeline was curious.

Mandy shook her head. "No, I didn't. A friend gave it to me."

"Oh, you have a friend who loves reading?" she pressed, half joking.

"Of course, I do..." Mandy was hesitant. She wanted to tell her about Milla but decided against it on second thought. After all, it wasn't a happy story to share.

Her phone rang at that moment.

She picked it up and answered.

It was from Bruce. His warm voice was just as she remembered it. Mandy smiled lightly as she dropped her legs from the sofa. She stood up and walked toward the wall-length window.

It was sunset, and the evening sky glowed red outside.

The beautiful view brightened her mood. She smiled and said, "Bruce?"
