The servant fell into silence immediately. She shut her mouth and followed Caroline obediently.

Caroline headed upstairs and went straight to Simon and Nacy's bedroom. When she opened the door, she found that it was completely dark. Nacy was small enough that even if she lay in bed, no one would see her.

Caroline turned on the lights. Nacy immediately squinted her eyes in discomfort. Frowning, she whispered roughly, "I'm not having breakfast. Please turn the lights off again."

Nacy thought it was the servant who had come in, so when she spoke, her tone was a bit harsh.

"Ahem!" Caroline cleared her throat.

Unfortunately, Nacy still hadn't realized that it was Caroline. She scratched her head in frustration and shouted, "I told you to turn off the lights. What's wrong with you?"

Her eyes then widened.

Visibly perplexed, Nacy was jolted awake when she realized who had come, immediately flushing.

She wasn't in good shape at the moment—her hair was a mess, and she was half-awake. Rubbing her eyes, she explained, her tone panicked, "Mom, I didn't know it was you, I... I thought it was a servant."

"Even if I were a servant, you should still be polite. I'm giving you ten minutes, then I'll see you downstairs." Caroline looked serious, but her tone was diplomatic as a way to scold Nacy.

Nacy didn't say anything. After all, it was her fault.

With that, Caroline turned around and calmly headed downstairs.

Judging from Nacy's tone, she could tell that her son was the meeker of the two. She thought it was what her son deserved—after all, he'd loved her for so many years.

In any relationship, the one who loved more was likely the one who suffered more too. In the end, what mattered the most was if they were happy.

After Caroline left, Nacy stayed in bed, utterly confused. Dwelling on what had just happened, she felt terribly upset for gettin

reality, it had no actual nutritional value.

Jill lowered her head, slightly trembling. She didn't have the guts to admit that this was what Nacy had for breakfast every day. Stammering, she said, "Mrs... Madam, this is... It's yogurt and cereal and bread..."

"I know that. Is it good for you? It's so cold! What season is it now? It's almost winter. How can you let Nacy eat something like this for breakfast in this weather?" Caroline scolded Jill.

"Mom, don't be angry. I asked her to prepare this breakfast. I usually don't eat like this. I just like changing up my meals every now and then," Nacy explained lightly. Jill didn't come from a good family, so she worked very hard. She was kind-hearted and never complained even though Nacy was ill-tempered.

"Madam, we have dumplings in the fridge. Would you want to eat that? I can cook them for you." Jill quickly offered.

Nacy smiled and answered naturally, "Okay."

Caroline was relieved when she heard that Nacy was going to eat the dumplings. After Jill went into the kitchen, Nacy sat on the table and said in a sweet voice, "Mom, did you come here today to visit me?"

"Well... How are you? Are you feeling better? I know a great doctor. I was planning to take you to see her today."
