"Well, I will be the godmother of your child."

"Of course, who else would it be?"

Mandy smiled. Chatting with Cassie always lifted Mandy's spirits. They held hands and climbed the escalator. Cassie seemed to involuntary stand in front of Mandy like a protective shield to prevent her from getting hurt.

"Cas, come on! You are overreacting. I've only been pregnant for a month. It's nothing serious, I'm fine." Mandy chuckled and shook her head as she stroked her belly absentmindedly.

"I'm protecting my godson, not you. Am I right, baby?" Cassie bent down and trailed her fingers across Mandy's stomach.

Mandy burst into a fit of laughter and lifted her head. She choked in the middle of her laughter and froze on the spot when she saw the person on the other escalator that was going down.

She quickly turned around to look at the descending escalator. Her eyes widened, and her mouth was hanging open when she saw Sharon, her old friend, who had died in a car accident!

Mandy blinked her eyes a couple of times, thinking that her eyes were deceiving her. "Sharon...'' Mandy murmured in shock when she realized that it was not an illusion and that the woman in front of her was Sharon.

"Who?" Cassie turned around and asked as her brows furrowed in confusion.

Mandy was staring at the figure of Sharon that was descending to the first floor. She was wearing a khaki windbreaker. Although the mall was brimming with people, Sharon's face stood out among the bustling crowd.

Mandy shuffled her feet and swiveled on the spot to go after Sharon when the escalator reached the top floor. Unfortunately, Sharon had already disappeared by then.

"Mand, what's up? Who are you looking at?" Cassie asked, trying to follow Mandy's gaze. She was concerned as Mandy was looking like she had seen a ghost.

Mandy turned around and held Cassie's hand. Her eyes were wide with shock. "Cas, do you remember that I had told you about my best friend who had died in a car accident? Well, I saw her taking the escalator just now. She was right there." Mandy bit her lips and continued to skim her eyes through the crowd.

Cassie rolled her eyes. "Mand, I have heard people say that pregnant women tend to lose their minds. But it has not even been a month, and you al

t know where they are. They moved out right after the car accident and have not bothered to contact us since then." Madeline bit her lips and looked away. She was aware that they had moved to City C, but she thought it was better if Mandy did not know about it.

Madeline thought that the Zhou and Lin families were doomed to be strangers, and it was pointless to know their whereabouts when they had not bothered to contact them all these years.

"Mom, I'm telling the truth. I saw her today. Moreover, when I had attended our school's anniversary celebration, I heard someone play the violin to the music "Star." It was a piece of music that I had composed, and I swear, no one but Sharon knows about it. I'm telling you, it was definitely her," Mandy said fiercely. Every clue pointed to only one thing: Sharon was still alive. "Mom, I swear that it was her. Please tell me where her parents are."

"I'm not a cop. How the hell am I supposed to know where they are?" Madeline snapped.

"Mom, I have been out of the country for four years. Haven't you guys tried contacting each other?'' Mandy wondered what her parents were hiding from her. There seemed to be something that she was not aware of.

Madeline glared at Mandy before changing her expression. She closed her eyes and sighed loudly. "Honey, why do you care about what others are up to?"

"Mom, Sharon is not a stranger. She is my best friend!" Mandy growled and stood up from the sofa. She couldn't understand what her mom was hiding from her.
