The closing ceremony

At 11 o'clock sharp, the curtain fell.

At that moment, the sound of the violin playing echoed across the stage. Nathan's eyes widened, startled at the familiarity of the tune.

It was called 'Star, ' and only Mandy and Nathan were familiar with the melody. It had been produced by Mandy when she was fifteen-years-old, and she had dedicated it to Sharon.

It had never been played in public. The only one who knew how to play it was Sharon.

Mandy blinked. If that was the case, then who the heck was playing behind the curtain?

Nathan frowned, eyes darkening at the tune. His hands were clenched into fists, shaking as the song continued to echo across the auditorium.

Mandy's expression was nowhere near better. Why would someone play this melody at the school's closing ceremony–and how would they know such a melody in the first place? Her fingers trembled.

She needed to know who was behind the curtains because it couldn't be...She jumped up from her seat to everybody's surprise as she rushed across the steps.

Right before she could reach the stage, the sound of the violin stopped abruptly, rendering silence across the auditorium. Mandy glanced around crazily; however, the violinist was nowhere to be seen.

Nathan followed her immediately, only to also see that there was nobody there.

It was impossible!

Mandy raced backstage to ask all the students about it, but she was met by another dead end. The violinist had been wearing a mask, they'd said. However, they did know that the violinist was a woman.

The moment the curtain was pulled down, everyone thought that the event was over. Even Fiona and Ethon were surprised when they heard the music echoing through the speakers. Ethon had wanted to stop the sound, but afte

nder the covers. She hated it, hated this feeling. She panted as if she'd ran a marathon.

Suddenly, Nathan's strong arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her into his chest. She felt warmer then.

Her eyes darkened, but pursing her lips, she didn't speak.

Nathan couldn't help but wince at the lack of response. It was rare to see Mandy like this, so broken.

It took a lot of him to turn Mandy around to face him.

"Nathan," Mandy whispered, lips quivering.

"I'm here, Mand." Seeing her pale face, he pulled her even closer to his chest. Their quarrel earlier had dissipated in a pillar of smoke.

"Do you think someone could come back to life after death?" She closed her eyes, overwhelmed by the emotions she felt earlier.

"Of course not, silly girl. Everything happens for a reason, and once life ends, that's it." Nathan swallowed, forcing a smile onto his lips. In all honesty, he was thinking the same thing.

"You're right." She lowered her head, flushing. "I must've just overreacted."

"Do you know the melody that was being played on stage?" he questioned, eyes darkening at the memories that flooded into his mind. However, Mandy didn't seem to notice.
