282 Careful Thinking: A Terrible Combination

"It is time to step up," Lady Erwina informed her daughter. "Bayard thinks he is smart. I would prove to him that I am smarter than he is."

"What do you intend on doing, Erwina?' Lord Ferdinand questioned her.

"In due time, godfather. You would know when the plans start falling into place."

"Okay then. I would take my leave and let you ladies do your thing."

"Take care, grandfather," Cyrena bade him farewell and returned back to her seat.

"Thank you godfather. I would send word to you."

"It is okay. Be careful and cautious," Lord Ferdinand warned her again before exiting the room.

"Where do you want to go to first and what do you intend doing now?"

"I need to pay her a visit."

~LADY LORELEI'S CHAMBERS~

At the far end of the palace, in a semi dark room, as usual the Lady Lorelei was busy concocting mixtures and making potions, completely oblivious to the person in her room.

"For how long have I been standing here, Lady Lorelei? If I had come for your life…"

Before the person could finish the statement, Lady Lorelei interjected. "You would be dead," she stated flatly, still not bothering to turn her back to see the person.

"Or have you forgotten your roots? Do you think there is anyone in the whole magical realm that can perform a sneak attack on me? Tsk, you my child, have a lot to learn," she shook her head as she continued her work.

"I am not a kid, my lady and I think you know, there is no assassin in this realm that can match me."

Lady Lorelei arched her brows and stopped what she was doing. It was at this moment that she finally turned to look at the person talking.

"I think you know that you are who you are because of my trainings and teaching? You have niot met the other races, how sure are you that you can match up t pot hem?"

"Because I was trained by the best of the best. I was trained by you."

"Words of flattery? Kids of this generation."

"My lady, I flatter you not. You said so yourself, I am who I am because of your trainings."

"Well, technically I didn't train you on your fighting skills and techniques, your trainer did."

She narrowed her eyes at Amelia and a small smile crept up the side of her cheeks, but as quickly as it came, Lady Lorelei masked it and returned to what she was doing.

"All the techniques were handed down from you. Now tell me, are those words of flattery?"

Ignoring her words, Lorelei tried to change the topic of discussion to something else. "I think you and I know you did not come here just to tell me that and recount old tales."

"Obviously not."

"Good, now skip to the part where you need my help."

"When you say it like that, you make it seem as though I only come here just to get something."

She knew what she was doing, it was fun to tease Amelia sometimes. Amelia let out an exasperated sigh, feeling tired to argue with Lorelei.

"I refuse to agree, godmother."

As soon as the words left her lips, Lady Lorelei turned and swiftly threw a dagger at her. Rather than dodging the incoming disaster, Amerlia stood her ground and caught the dagger between her fingertips, effortlessly.

"Impressive, you may just be able to survive a minute fighting that elf."

"Which elf? Where is he? You never mentioned anything about an elf." Lorelei could see the confusion in Amelia's eyes and knew that it was time to let her know.

"I do not know much about the other races and who their skilled fighter is, but the elf that always lurks around the hybrid, is one of great concern."

Both ladies stopped talking and quietly accessed the situation presented. For Amelia it was a first time thing hearing about the elf tagging along the hybrid princess.

This was also the first time that Lorelei looked so serious when talking about an opponent.

Without being told, she could tell he really was a serious foe for her godmother to not have been able to catch the hybrid by now.

If Lorelei could admit that he was of a great concern, then she needed to up her game and train harder just so she could defeat this so called elf when she met him.

After a long pause, Amelia broke the silence. "Let me accompany you on your next mission to get the hybrid."

Lorelei was not shocked by the news, she knew after she mentioned it to Amelia, it would pique her curiosity and would definitely want to try and fight with him.

Regardless, that was not the problem right now. The last time she sent Cullen on the mission, he met with the elf but the greater concern was the hybrid.

She cared too much about the elf that she unleashed her powers without thinking, just to save him. She did not know how good it would be to bring the elf to a mortal danger and what kind of reactions she should expect from the hybrid.

"Pesky little elf and that naughty hybrid. What a terrible combination," Lady Lorelei muttered under her breath.

"My Lady, you said?"

"Fighting them apart is a whole lot easier than combined," Lorelei repeated herself so Amelia could hear her.

"How so?"

"Divided they fall especially when one is in danger. Together, still a whole lot risky. I believe the hybrid and the elf have unspoken feelings between them and in turn it rules their way of thinking and fighting."

"Shouldn't that be to our advantage?" Amelia asked.

No matter how she saw it, when one was in love, that should be the person's weakness, the one whom they are in love with.

"No, it is to our disadvantage. Have you forgotten what she did to Cullen? Regardless though, it can be both."

"Depends on how well you plan and use that knowledge."

"Good thinking, Amelia."
