281 Erwina's Discovery And Rage

CHAPTER 280

~HUMAN KINGDOM – PALACE~

Back at the palace, things went on smoothly and up until this very moment, Lady Erwina was not aware of Owen and Cullen's outing to East Bane.

It was later that day she found out from her godfather that they had secretly left the kingdom under the king's orders and journeyed to East Bane to find out what was happening there.

"Damn that stupid Prince!" Lady Erwina shouted and threw the cup of wine in her hands.

Lord Ferdinand who was standing nit too far from where she was did not bother battling an eye lid at her outburst. Instead, he arched his brows at her in a silent questioning manner.

Noticing the look, he gave her, Lady Erwina tried her best to calm down and think straight.

Needless to say, no matter what she did or how well she tried to calm her raging though, she just could not calm down.

"What should I do?!" She was in a mess as her anger washed over her.

"Why did no one inform me about this earlier on if they knew where the Prince journeyed to?"

She ranted on, pouring ceaseless questions out of her mouth till she became tired and her godfather was there to stomach it all especially her beautiful daughter, Cyrena.

"Tell me, how can I hide my dealings now from the King? He would obviously and automatically become more suspicious and I used the resources meant for the village to settle one or two people and get them on our side."

"Erwina, it is okay. If Bayard could do anything or now indebt about what you did, he would have taken action by now or sanctioned you. Of which nothing had been done in respect to that effect.

"I think you both are missing the point here."

Both heads turned to Cyrena as soon as the words left her lips.

"How do you mean, daughter?"

"Father has begun taking action. If he had not dutifully investigated it, he would not have sent brother and Cullen on that journey."

"So your point is?" It was Lord Ferdinand who spoke next.

"Myt point is that, father already knows. He may not know all of the things mother is involved in but give him some credit, grandfather. He is the king. I think your thought now should not be centered on them finding out what they have already found out."

"Then what should your mother be focused more on?" Lord Ferdinand asked as he crossed both hands in front of him.

He knew his granddaughter was brilliant but sometimes she carried on that arrogant air around her like her mother and right now he felt she was trying to show her intelligence and he wasn't pleased.

"Simple. There was no way Owen would have been able to figure that out. That brother of mine is far from using his brain to think too deep even though he is intelligent."

As she spoke, Erwina took some steps closer to her daughter and began to ponder on what she had said.

"True, go on," Lord Ferdinand urged her. His earlier thought about her had begun to dissipate, paving way for him to think well and know she was indeed right.

"It simply means someone is the brain behind this operation and not Owen."

"It could very well be Bayard. He is just letting Owen handle it so he can curry the people's favour."

"No, that's not it. It was well hidden that Bayard could not have possibly found out. Besides, his mind these days is clouded with any hopeful news on the hybrid. He definitely would not have time for a small puny village like East Bane."

"Then who?" Lord Ferdinand directed his question at both the mother and daughter duo.

"My guess is Gerald. He has been Bayard's trusted adviser and a strong ally and supporter of the crown prince, who better than he to help point it out to Owen? Am I not right, Cyrena?"

"You are close mother, but I cannot agree with you."

"If it is not either one of them, then who?" Lord Ferdinand raised his voice at her as he was already losing his patience over the issue.

"I thought you both were the geniuses of the high ones. Do not tell me you have no idea mother? It is virtually in plain sight."

'Plain sight, plain sight, plain sight.' Lady Erwina chanted in her mind.

In as much as she hated her daughter's stalling she understood her fully well. She knew Cyrena wanted them to be on the same page and thinking frequency, that was why she was stressing the matter so they could figure it out for themselves.

After some minutes of thinking, the answer finally came to Erwina. It was as though it was used to stone her and a devilish grin curved up her cheeks.

"You have figured it out, right, mother?"

Lady Erwina nodded at her daughter then darted her gaze to the side where her godfather was standing looking more confused than ever before.

"Plain sight. There is only one person who is by the prince and is hiding in plain sight. It is Cullen. He must have been the one who had found out," Lady Erwina explained and kept on nodding her head, her wicked smile never leaving her face.

"It is true, mother. There was a reason father made him to be Owen's teacher and ever since he started training him, brother had improved greatly. Father was one step ahead of us when he did this. All that is left now is simple for us. Deal with Cullen and Owen would be like a plain book."

Erwina lightly chuckled at her daughter's brilliant idea. "You do not have to worry much though. Everything would be handled nicely. I know just how to do just that. There is only one person Cullen fears. It is time to step up."
