280 His Majesty's Order

CHAPTER 279

Irrespective of how he felt about the word Love, Owen could understand to some extent how Cullen felt and how is lover would feel when she found out about it.

It was similar to what his mother felt back then whenever she heard about the king sleeping around.

It simply broke her to the point that she would refuse to eat for days.

Watching her hen, Owen began to dislike his father for making his mother suffer so much hurt.

Was it worth it? To Owen, it was never worth it as the king never even noticed his actions were slowly killing his wife till she died.

"I understand, Cullen and I am sorry that it happened even though you did not want it to."

"No, I could have been better but I actually enjoyed it. I enjoyed having sex with her. What kind of a human being am I?"

Owen could not stomach watching his friend like this as it brought bacvk so many memories he wanted to forget.

The only difference now would be that he was the one who cheated and not the other way round. Without being told, he knew that Nova was lucky.

Perhaps if his father had shown a little bit of remorse each time he hurt his mother, maybe, just maybe the weight on her heart wouldn't have worsened her illness and automatically caused her death.

"No matter how much you brood over this situation, you cannot change what had been done. You can only move forward," Owen advised him.

The words that came out of his mouth had caused Cullen to raise his head and look at him. "Are you telling me to forget and pretend this ever happened?"

"No, I am not by any means telling you to do that. All I am saying is brace yourself up. Your lover is lucky to have a man who desires her like this and would beat himself up when he fails to keep to her. Which lady wouldn't love you? It is no wonder they all swoon around you."

He took in a deep breath to let his words sink in before he continued his lectiure. In his mind, he began to wonder when he became this good to bother with stuffs like this and give advice.

Sigh!

"They are changing me so much. I hope father is happy. This is all his doing.' Owen complained to himself and let out another sigh when his gaze wandered back to Cullen.

"You cannot keep doing this to yourself, Cullen. Think about her. How do you expect her to feel after giving herself to you and you are like this? You would kill her confidence to ever love or show herself to any man again."

Although Owen was making sense, but Cullen could care less right now. It wasn't that he hated Evelyn, no. It was just that he hated himself for being weak.

"I do not want that either as she still has her whole life ahead of her, still I just can't bring myself to not think too much about the whole issue,": Cullen said and let out an exasperated sigh as his hand moved up to hold his head.

Owen let out a soft chuckle at his friend's question. "What is the matter? Did I say something wrong? Why are you laughing?"

"No my friend, you did not say anything wrong," Owen replied him as he tried to better compose himself as this was not a laughing issue.

"Then why are you laughing?" The seriousness in his face almost made Owen laugh again but he knew better than to do that the second time.

"You see, it is just that you my friend are too good and nice to be like me."

Cullen furrowed his brows deeper at Owen's word. He did not want to agree with him that he was too good and nice when he clearly was not one of those, at least not anymore.

"I am a lost cause when it comes to ladies and you, you are an untainted soul. For me it is normal and for you, your ethics and principles frown deeply upon such act. It would be hard, trust me. I do not think you would be abkle to get over it, but you can move on."

"That was not helpful, but rather than escape it, I would rather live with the guilt and regret, so that there would not be a next time. I just do not know how I would face her after this," Cullen finally confessed.

"Who? Face who? I mean which of them?'

"Nova of course."

'You are more worried on how you would face Nova, what of Evelyn?" Owen was curious as to how his friend was going to answer that question since he was too good for his own good.

Just then a soldier arrived bearing news for the prince.

"Your highness!"

Owen looked towards the direction where his name was being called and two soldiers highlighted from their horses then made their way to where they were.

"Greetings your highness," they said in unison and bowed their heads to him.

"Rise."

They obeyed Owen's command and did as he commanded them. One of the soldiers stepped forward with a scroll in his hand and presented it to Owen while bowing his head.

"We bring news from the palace," the first soldier spoke up. "His majesty's order."

Upon seeing the soldiers, Cullen knew better than to wallow in self-pity and stood straight up, like the general he was at the back of Owen.

Owen's eyes narrowed as he carefully analyzed the whole situation. 'What did this old man want again.' He asked himself inwardly then stepped forward to accept the royal order and took the scroll from the soldier's hand.

As soon as the scroll left the soldier's hand, he took a step backwards before raising his head and standing at attention.

Owen opened the scroll and read the decree in his mind. By the time he was done, he rolled it back up and then turned to Cullen.

"Time to ride."
