Not the slightest hesitation in choosing sides. Ye Wang truly wonders what Doctor must have told Jian Si to make him so… loyal beyond belief.

Though after Ye Wang observes Jian Si for a moment, he notices an oddity.

Jian Si is looking down at the ground. His eyelashes tremble with unnatural frequency. It is not normal, but rather… some kind of response as emotional feedback that cannot be controlled.

He’s in fear.

Though Ye Wang does question his own conclusion a little.

He’s been covering for Doctor the entire time, as soon as Ye Wang voiced his suspicions against Doctor too. It seems Jian Si can be nothing but loyal by that logic.

Even so, he is in fear.

It is not how someone with absolute loyalty reacts.

Ye Wang narrows his eyes, thinking he has obtained the key to breaking Jian Si’s defences.

“I still have a few questions.” Ye Wang, freshly energised, ignores his reservations against the Doctor for now, telling Jiang Yiyi, “perhaps you’d have to wait a while longer, Doctor?”

The emotional changes are dutifully reflected in front of Jiang Yiyi’s eyes——He’s intrigued.

Jiang Yiyi glances at Jian Si, and says expressionlessly, “five minutes.”

Five minutes…

Before Ye Wang can complain about it being too short, his body is already reacting by dragging Jian Si to his side, and shutting the door.

The door has separated Jiang Yiyi from them, allowing Ye Wang a brief period of conversation.

“There isn’t time, so I’ll be quick.” Ye Wang glances at the heavy cell door, recalling Jiang Yiyi’s file, and there is no mention of exceptional hearing. He settles down, and says promptly, “you are not part of Doctor’s team.”

Jiang Yiyi blinks.

“You are afraid of him.” Ye Wang is confident, “did he threaten you?”

It makes sense then, why Jian Si would cover for Doctor, and why Doctor is here. Not simply to pick up Jian Si, but also to ensure his threats are still effective; to re-establish control over Jian Si.

Ye Wang, who has his ‘logical’ explanation now, tells Jian Si with a serious face, “no matter what he threatened you with, do not be afraid. I can ensure your safety.”

What gave Ye Wang to courage to say that? When he was the one acting defensively for his own personal safety…

Jian Si is apprehensive, but Ye Wang is too pressed for time to examine Jian Si closely, “you still have time to save your life.”

Jian Si is silent while under Ye Wang’s fiery gaze.

“Ye Wang, you are a good person.” He even feels slightly apologetic for what he is about to say, “but the question is…”

“This really had nothing to do with Doctor.” Jian Si confesses once more, “I… really did kill him.”

Ye Wang’s expression fades as he observes Jian Si more closely for the signs of what he wanted to see, “and you are afraid of the Doctor?”

Jian Si is not flinching at all, asking Ye Wang, “are you saying you are not?”

Ye Wang finally accepts his new failure, but this time, Jian Si’s performance is so impeccable it even makes Ye Wang wonder genuinely——Could Doctor really have had nothing to do with this?

Objectively, there are no evidence that Doctor had anything to do with this.

Did they falsely accuse Doctor?

‘Knock knock’ goes the door again, reminding them that time is up.

Before opening the door, Ye Wang looks at Jian Si one last time.

Jian Si is looking at him too, unmoved, unwavering.

Ye Wang takes a deep breath, then opens the door once again.

Jiang Yiyi stands quietly by the door, unaware of what happened inside the cell at all, “done?”

Ye Wang nods.

Jiang Yiyi notes the new changes to Ye Wang’s emotions, then asks, “nothing you want to ask me?”

Ye Wang’s face freezes for a second. He knows he should never do as Jiang Yiyi wants, but the suggestion is far too enchanting to let pass.

“Was Black Glove’s death… related to you?”

Jiang Yiyi glances at Jian Si, who gulps a little at his gaze, looking at the ground.

“If Jian Si killed him, then I will say it is related.”

Ye Wang is jolted awake, abandoning his silly ‘Doctor was not related’ thoughts immediately.

“Why did you kill him? Are you interested in the info too, Doctor?” He knows Jiang Yiyi will never have left any proof that can definitively prove his culpability beyond a reasonable doubt, so he does not go that futile route. Instead, he asks something else——The motive of Jiang Yiyi.

Their personality analysis of Jiang Yiyi remains stalled as always. Logical and factual inconsistencies are the issue——If they find a new lead, perhaps it can help clear everything up.

“Related to me, does not quite mean it is my intention.” Jiang Yiyi says, quite casually.

Ye Wang quickly works out his meaning, finding his eyes inevitably drawn over to Jian Si.

The guy is still looking at the ground and not meeting the eyes of anyone.

Ye Wang blurts out by reflex, “so Jian Si did kill him.”

Jiang Yiyi then extends his hand to retrieve the photograph of the wounds from his pocket. After several seconds of observation, he smirks.

“A good photo.” Jiang Yiyi puts it back into Ye Wang’s pocket, then pats him on the shoulder, “but it was not him.”

“What——” Ye Wang is not finished, but Jiang Yiyi has already ended the conversation by turning to leave. Jian Si follows right behind, and they have made good distance in the blink of an eye.

“No, wait, what did you mean by that?” Ye Wang looks at the photo himself, staring at the highlighted wound for a few seconds, asking Jiang Yiyi loudly, “who else if not him?”

Jiang Yiyi merely waves his hand in parting, not interested in answering his questions.
