Chapter 188 Baiting

After running for ten minutes, the pursuers realized that the invaders weren't going to run out of stamina, and when the monsters got too close, they were disposed of in a single instant.

The generals still couldn't believe that a single person had managed to make the entire area tremble. The reason for that was the fact that they tried to run instead of fighting. That made them think that the enemy's power was either really situational or that they only used that to scare them.

Although that wasn't like them, the generals decided to attack instead of waiting for a while longer. They couldn't risk losing the largest in the darkness of the night, and they were too far away from the capital to receive any backup, so it was time to move. They couldn't lose those who entered the temple and got whatever was there…

Aion noticed the atmosphere changing… he could almost see the bloodlust being emanated from the pursuers. They were finally about to make their move.

"No matter what happens, keep running," Aion declared to his allies.

Sauros and Seris nodded since they also could feel that something had changed. The group that wasn't approaching suddenly increased their speed, and when they got within range, they jumped from the horses and toward Aion's group. Seris increased their movement speed and dodged the attack. However, after landing, one of them still charged at them like a train.

Aion turned around and then blocked the swing of an ax with his spear. Thanks to the darkness of the night, he barely had a chance to dodge, and because of his stance, the enemy pushed him backward. The other two enemies passed by him, and even though it was a golden chance for them to finish him… it seemed that they didn't want to cooperate…

Aion could use that chance in his favor. Still, he had to prevent the other guys from catching Seris and Sauros. While they could defend themselves, it would be better if they kept running. Until the enemies can no longer chase them, and then they will have enough room to defeat the generals.

When Aion stopped being pushed, he raised his legs and then kicked the enemy's chest, and then flew in the opposite direction. After spinning in the air a few times, Aion landed already facing the enemies' back, and then he dashed with all his might.

He failed to see their backs as well, but when he swung his weapon at their heads, Aion saw that one of them was a woman armed with a whip and another was a dual-wielding sword. Both of them turned around to attack him. The woman used her whip to get Aion's spear, and she succeeded while the other blocked Aion's attack. From behind, Aion heard the sound of an ax warrior dashing toward him.

Aion used Inner Release for a second and then pulled the woman to the side and made her collide with the swordsman. He jumped over them and freed his weapon before kicking them in the back and then making them collide against the axe warrior. When they fell to the ground, Aion sped up and then approached Sauros and Seris.

"That was impressive, but I thought you had two chances to defeat them there…" Seris said.

"They were baiting me, " Aion said. "As your brother said, they are strong, but they didn't show their true strength yet. They are using each other for that. I could feel their stares even when they were running toward you two. The ax guy could have kicked me as well since the weight of his attack almost made me bend my body. They are a crafty bunch…"

"The speed of the ax general confirms that they are more than just brute strength and knowledge on how to wage war," Sauros said. "I guess even without horses, and they can easily catch up to us…"

They noticed that the generals were approaching again… although they stumbled on each other, that was something that Aion pulled off because they were openings on purpose. In any case, Aion knew that he had to take them down one at a time once the others were far away enough not to attack him.

Although the ax guy knew that the other generals were using him, he didn't hesitate to charge toward the group like an unstoppable train. He probably could be faster than Aion if he runs in a straight line and under normal conditions… Still, it was time to put him in his place…

Aion turned around and then prepared to stab the enemy's head with a powerful thrust, but then the enemy reacted in time to swing his ax and block the attack. Aion used Inner Release, but he still lost the exchange because the impact and the vibration made him flinch.

His spear was pushed to the side, and then the ax guy tried to split Aion in half. With his equal speed without Inner Release and with his extra finesse, Aion moved to the side and dodged the attack. Soon after, he hit the enemy's face with his left elbow. Still, then the swordsman approached even faster than before, targeting his neck.

Aion tried to move to the side but underestimated the enemy's speed, and one of the blades almost cut his cheek. The woman used her whip and swung the tip of the weapon in a straight line toward Aion's face. He blocked it with his spear… they sure wanted to destroy the fact that his mother liked it so much.

Before Aion could do much, the ax general was already up and swinging his weapon, ready to split him and the swordsman in two. The swordsman jumped backward with all his might, and after spinning in the air several times, he landed beside the whip general. As for Aion, he jumped backward just enough to dodge the attack and to be on the height of the ax guy before kicking his face and using it as support to gain some distance over them… he was starting to like that.
