Chapter 266 - Should we wake them up?

Callum shrugged. "Whatever it is, my father obviously intended to protect Xiao Yunjie. He saved Xiao Yunjie, and based on what you told us before, what Xiao Yunjie said when he rescued you finally made some sense."

When Kai Xin told them about what Xiao Yunjie had said when he rescued them, none of them could make head or tail of it. Back then, they had tried to find any linkage between Xiao Yunjie and them, but there was none... Even after talking to the Su Family, they still could not find anything about Xiao Yunjie.

The patriarch of the Su Family told them that the time "Ah Jie" spent with them was short. Normally, as long as one entered an underground family, it would be near to impossible to leave. At the very least, one would not be able to leave without leaving a limb or two behind.

However, for some reason, his oldest daughter, Su Yanxi, who was also Luo Guangying's stepmother, suddenly stepped in and pleaded for Ah Jie. The patriarch of the Su Family did not care much, and he just let his daughter do whatever she wanted, and he also got rid of anything that was related to Ah Jie.

"My father saved him, and in return, he saved you because you were wearing my father's pendant. Xiao Yunjie probably thought that you were my woman," Callum said as he peeled a mandarin orange. "From what Han Ye told me, which was based on what he could tell from his talks with Xiao Lei, Xiao Yunjie was someone who cared about his friends and family. He considered my father as his, and thus, he protected Kai Xin and Jack. And..."

Callum glanced at Luo Guangying, who was seated next to him. He wondered if he should continue as he did not want to trigger Luo Guangying or made him uncomfortable. However, before he could make a decision, Luo Guangying said, without so much as casting a glance at him, "I might be wrong, since there's no one that could confirm this other than that madwoman, but I think Xiao Yunjie went to help her because she helped him once."

He wasn't wrong at calling his stepmother a madwoman. A few months back, Su Yanxi's mind was completely broken after they made her watch as they slowly sliced her son's limbs, piece by piece. It was a punishment that she deserved. However, this also meant that they would never know the answer to their question.

"Whatever it is," Callum said, "Xiao Yunjie protected members of my family, and his wife is now carrying our children, so I should be the one to protect them."

He looked at DX and said, "I won't let you down."

"Make sure you give them everything they deserve," DX said with a nod of approval. He then glanced at his watch and said, "We'll leave in about an hour. But you guys can leave first if you want."

Callum glanced at his watch before looking at Luo Guangying. "Erm... Do you want to visit Xiao Lei together?"

Luo Guangying nodded. However, his eyes never met Callum's.

Callum was extremely upset by this, but he kept smiling and pretended that nothing was wrong so that the others would not bother him and Luo Guangying about it.

They stayed for about another 15 minutes before making their way to the hospital. On the way there, Callum kept stealing glances at Luo Guangying, who was seated in the passenger seat.

He then sighed inwardly while wondering exactly where did he do wrong.

"Guangying?" Callum called. It was rare for him to refer to Luo Guangying with anything other than "wife", "dear", or "my cutie pie", but he could that Luo Guangying wasn't in the mood, so he did not wish to push his buttons.

"What?"

"Have I done anything wrong?" Callum asked as he kept his fingers wrapped tightly on the steering wheel. "Please tell me. Please don't be mad at me for so long. It's bad for your health."

"Nothing," Luo Guangying said tersely as he stared out the window while resting his chin on a palm. "I'm tired. Wake me up when we are there." Without even waiting for a response, he closed his eyes.

Callum glanced at him briefly before looking back at the road. He knew that Luo Guangying wasn't really asleep, but he was at his wits. He was gripping the steering wheel so hard that his knuckles had turned white. But despite that, he kept his mouth shut.

...

When they arrived at the hospital room, the first thing they saw upon entering was Xiao Lei on the bed, with two slices of cuc.u.mber on her eyes. They had knocked softly earlier, afraid that they might disrupt something. However, no one answered their knocks, so Callum took it upon himself and opened the door.

There was some food on the overbed table, which was pushed to the end of the bed. Xiao Lei was sleeping on the bed, which was normal. What was unusual was Han Ye was sleeping next to her, on the bed. One of his hands was underneath Xiao Lei's head while the other was holding her hand.

"In drama series, the male lead would usually sleep while sitting on a chair, right?" Callum murmured to Luo Guangying.

Luo Guangying nodded. "But this is real life," he replied back in a hushed tone.

"Should we wake them up?" Callum whispered.

Luo Guangying looked up at the same time, and both their faces were less than an inch apart from each other. Callum's breathing accelerated, so did Luo Guangying.

They gulped as they stared into each other's eyes. When Callum tried to make the first move, Old Master Shenlong's words reverberated in Luo Guangying's mind.

"How long do you think you'd last?"

Luo Guangying immediately turned away, upon which, he bumped into the wall with his forehead.

"Argh!" he cried out of reflex before clamping a hand over his mouth.

However, it was too late. Han Ye had already woken up.

He stared at the two through his bleary eyes before looking at Xiao Lei, who was on the process of waking up. She had raised a hand to take off the cuc.u.mber slices.

"What's wrong?" she mumbled.

"Guangying and Callum are here," Han Ye said softly before helping her to sit up. He then got down from the bed. As he massaged his dead arm, he asked in a slightly sleepy tone, "How long have you guys been here?"

"We just arrived," Luo Guangying said as he massaged his forehead. It wasn't that bad, but it still hurt slightly. As he walked further into the room, he completely ignored Callum's raised hand while pretending not to see it.

Callum slowly lowered his hand before clenching it into a fist. He then smiled and said to Han Ye, "No one answered when we knocked earlier, so we decided to check it out."
