Chapter 265 - I'll compensate her well

Han Ye smiled, but he did not say anything.

Xiao Lei then continued, "At that time, I told Yunjie, 'if I were still the heiress of Fan Entertainment, your hand wouldn't be this rough, and Zhihao would be able to come here every day'. I was..."

Her body trembled again, and she closed her eyes, as if she was fighting against the tears that were about to fall. "I was only saying it... I didn't... I didn't mean it..."

Han Ye saw that she was about to break down again and he immediately got up from his seat and went to hug her. "It's alright, Xiao Lei... It's not your fault..."

"I can't help but think... Did he go back to his old group because of my words?" she cried as she cried against Han Ye. The chocolate pudding in her hand fell down onto the hospital floor, but both of them ignored it.

Xiao Lei clutched the side of Han Ye's shirt around his waist as she cried, "I thought back to the things I said to him... So many times... I told him so many times... 'If i'm this', and 'if I'm that'... Yunjie loved me and Zhihao more than anything. I always knew that, and I've never doubted it. What if he went back to his old group because he was trying to give us a better life? Han Ye, I don't want him to do that! Yunjie, I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!"

She cried loudly as she muttered "I'm sorry" over and over again.

"Please come back to me... Please..." she begged to no one in particular as she kept crying. One of her hands had slipped down from Han Ye's waist, and she raised it before thumping at her heart. "I don't want to feel this pain... Why is God being so unfair to me? What have I done to deserve so many losses?"

Han Ye murmured, "You didn't do anything wrong..."

Other than this, he did not know what else to say to her. He merely held her, and held up to his promise that he would let her cry on his shoulder. He did not complain even when his shirt was soaked, or when her nails dug into his skin.

Han Ye merely hugged her tightly to give her the warmth that she had lost while reassuring her that she was not alone in this world.

.....

Meanwhile, back at the burial ground, DX was paying respect to his father together with the rest of his family and friends. His mother and Old Mo had arrived not long after they got back from sending Xiao Lei to the hospital. Since they were pretty advanced in age, DX had told them to only come to pay respects to his father.

He did not let the incident earlier distract him as he continued to show his son off to his father. And Old Madam Du also took this opportunity to talk a little to her late husband. Once they were done, DX sent the two back first before he continued to pay respects to the other heads of Du Family.

He took Kai Xin and the kids with him when he paid respects to his grandfather and great-grandfather, but after that, he sent Kai Xin and their youngest two children back so that they could rest. DX also sent his friends back to the temple to rest first as the rest would not be of their concern.

"Why can't we rest too?" Jack complained as he massaged his sore thighs while he continued to walk to his great-great-great-great grandparents' grave.

Other than the beads of sweat forming on his forehead, DX did not show any other signs of exhaustion, which only annoyed his two teenage sons more as it said something about their own strengths.

"Because you two have to know all this. One day, when I'm gone, the two of you would be responsible for this," DX replied with a calm tone.

"Didn't we just do these during the last Qingming Festival, and the ones before?" Jack sighed.

"Then you should be used to it by now," DX said as he glanced back at his son. He continued to walk at a quick pace.

Jack sighed and turned to Lyle, who was walking behind him. With his hands on his hip, he said nonchalantly, "Bro, you have to remember all of this because I can't remember squat..."

"I've never expected your brain to work," Lyle said with a grin before he picked up the pace so that he was just a step behind his father.

"Hey!" Jack protested and jogged a little so that he could catch up to his father and his older brother.

A few hours later, they were finally back at the temple.

While they ate something light to replenish their energy, Kai Xin suddenly said something to her husband who was right next to her.

"XiAn, can we visit Xiao Lei later?"

DX was burping their son, with Little Monkey sleeping in his lap, when he heard her request, and he nodded. "Anything you want."

She smiled sadly and said, "I bet she must be in a lot of pain right now..."

She then looked at her husband. She couldn't help but lean slightly toward him as she gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"What was that for?" he asked with a smile.

"For being here..."

DX adjusted his son's position in his arm. He then took Kai Xin's hand with his other hand as he said, "I won't disappear just like that..."

"Xiao Lei's husband probably didn't expect to disappear just like that as well..." Kai Xin said. She thought about that awful day, and she could not help but shudder. If Xiao Yunjie did not save her and Jack, then she, Jack, and Little Monkey might not be here to spend a day with their loved ones, and Xiao Yunjie would still be able to go home to his family.

She looked up at DX and said, "He sacrificed a lot for us."

"I'll make sure to compensate her well..."

"Actually," a male voice suddenly sounded, and DX and Kai Xin turned to that person.

It was Callum who spoke up earlier, and he continued, "I'll compensate her well..."

He then told DX about what he, Han Ye, and Luo Guangying found out about Xiao Yunjie. When he was done, there were a lot of expressions of shock and disbelief on the faces of those around him. Even DX had a look of incredulity on his face.

"Is this fate?" Kai Xin murmured after a long time.
