Chapter 260 - Would you bless me?

...

Back to the present,

DX looked down at his sleepy son and said softly, "Wyatt, meet the older Wyatt. One day, I'll tell you the story behind your name..."

Baby Wyatt looked at his father for a second before yawning in a cute manner. He then swiped at his eyes a couple of times with his gloved hands before placing both hands next to his ears and closed his eyes.

"I'm talking to you, you naughty little thing..." DX said softly. He pretended to be stern, but obviously, his son did not care for it and merely went to sleep.

DX sighed softly and looked back at the gravestone. He thought for a while before chuckling. He then said, "Sometimes, I can't help but feel that you have reincarnated into my son to give me trouble."

He then smiled softly and thought, "Don't worry about Tiffany. She's very happy with William Tan now, and I'll make sure that she remains that way for the rest of her life."

.....

At the columbarium,

Han Ye stood in front of Wu Yuexue's new home. He still had something that he wanted to talk to her about; something which he couldn't really talk to her earlier because of all the people around.

"What do you think of this place? I hope you like it here," he murmured as he looked at his late wife's photo with a smile. "I'm not sure if this is the right time to say it, but... Yuexue, I think I might have some feelings for Xiao Lei... No. I mean Wushuang. If it's alright with you, I'd really like to start pursuing her..."

He reached out to touch the glass as he continued, "Would you bless me?"

"Pursue who?"

Han Ye turned around and saw Mr. and Mrs. Wu.

Mrs. Wu was still wearing the same disdainful expression on her face, but Mr. Wu's expression was tamer now compared to before, as if he had already accepted everything.

"Mr. Wu. Mrs. Wu," Han Ye greeted them respectfully before stepping aside. He had received a message from the caretaker of the burial ground that Wu Yuexue's parents had arrived earlier. That was why he came over to wait for them.

Mrs. Wu ignored Han Ye and went to pray in front of her daughter's new home. She and her husband offered some joss sticks to their daughter before taking a step back.

For a few minutes, everyone was quiet as they talked to Wu Yuexue in their hearts.

Once they were done, Mr. Wu looked at Han Ye and said, "How are you? It's been a while."

Han Ye smiled and nodded. "I'm fine. Are you feeling well? I heard that you had a heart attack recently."

"Just a minor one," Mr. Wu said as he stared at his daughter's photo. "I'm already old, so this is to be expected."

"Please take care of yourself. If you need any help, do let me know and I'll try my best to get you help."

Mr. Wu waved his hand nonchalantly. "I'm fine..."

"What's this about pursuing another person?" Mrs. Wu suddenly asked. "How dare you ask Yuexue this question?!"

She had never gotten past her daughter's death.

"I just-"

Slap!

"Dear!" Mr. Wu snapped and pulled his wife aside. "Can't you just let it go?!"

"He killed our daughter! He should pay for it for the rest of his life! How could he just leave her?!"

Han Ye felt a pang of guilt upon hearing her. He did not even feel the pain of the slap despite the stinging red mark on his face.

"Stop it!" Mr. Wu snapped. "Aren't you ashamed of doing this in front of Yuexue?!"

He then turned to Han Ye and said in a softer voice, "Move on, Han Ye. I admit, I was really angry before, but it's been so many years, and I know that Yuexue would not want you to be alone for the rest of your life. If you have found someone that you like, then you have my blessings."

"Dear!" Mrs. Wu snapped. "He killed her!"

"She died in an accident!" Mr. Wu snapped back at his wife. "Ten years! For ten years, he had been living half a life for our daughter who would never wake up! Enough is enough! Let him free!"

"Never!" Mrs. Wu glared at Han Ye. "I would never forget what you did no matter what!"

Mr. Wu sighed loudly before saying to Han Ye, "We are here to pay respects to our daughter. We'd be taking our leaves now. Do take care of yourself, and ignore my wife. She has never been the same ever since then..."

Han Ye nodded, and he walked them to the entrance of the columbarium. Once they were out of his sight, he sighed softly before walking back into the columbarium. When he was in front of Wu Yuexue, he smiled sadly and said, "I'm sorry that you had to see that, but don't worry, I'm not upset with your mother. I know that she did not mean it... I'll see you again soon, Yuexue."

He took out his handkerchief and carefully wiped the glass clean of any smudges, and once he was done, he stared at her photo longingly for a few seconds before turning around. The moment he walked out of the place, he could feel a light breeze, and it was as if the breeze brought with it sound that sounded like it was saying bye.

....

Kai Xin and the rest stood in front of her son's grave.

"Here," Lu Ziyan said as he wheeled himself closer to her and handed her a bouquet of roses.

Kai Xin thanked him as she took the bouquet of roses. She then gently placed it in front of her son's gravestone. Since this was a son she aborted, there was no picture on his gravestone. The only thing on it were the words: "Du Zihan, Beloved first son of Du XiAn and Zhen Kai Xin. We wish things could have been different and that we could have a chance to get to know you. Love, Daddy and Mummy."

Kai Xin got down on her knees and gently wiped the non-existent dust off the words "Du Zihan". She then chuckled and said, "I thought it was unnecessary when XiAn wanted to adopt Zihan into his family line, but the name Du Zihan does have a nice ring to it."

She smiled and thought about her husband, who carefully arranged everything for her. She knew that if he did not do what he did, her son would not have been able to be buried here. And every year during Qingming Festival, they would have to go to two different burial grounds.

It might be a little inconvenient, but Kai Xin was fine with it. However, DX was not.

When Old Madam Du pointed out that this was against tradition, as there was a rule prohibiting the adoption of non-blood related members into the main branch, even if it was a posthumous adoption, but DX ignored her.

Kai Xin had told him that she did not mind, but even so, he was adamant of doing things his way.

"There's no one to protect you and him before, but at the very least, I want there to be someone to protect him in the afterlife. And there's no one better than my ancestors. Even if they rejected him, my father would definitely protect him from all the other ghosts," DX said with such a stern expression that Kai Xin could not help but smile at him.

Lu Ziyan smiled as he looked at Kai Xin. He was glad that after going through so much pain, Kai Xin was able to find her happiness at last. He then placed a single stalk of rose on Zihan's grave and said, "I'll come and visit you again soon."

Even though Kai Xin told him that he should stop blaming himself, Lu Ziyan could never fully absolve himself of his guilt. And he was fine with it. He was determined to spend the rest of his life doing the right thing.

Everyone else took turns to place a stalk of rose on Zihan's grave, and just as they were about to leave, they heard a loud cry.

"Noooo! Wah! Wah!!!"

The cry was so loud that DX and his group, Han Ye, and Kai Xin and her group all turned to look toward the direction.

"Little Monkey!" Everything thought worriedly in unison.
