Chapter 162 - Was he worried about me?

...

After talking to the old lady, Han Ye drove around the city for a few hours until he unconsciously parked in front of Hotel W. While there, he stared at the hotel door while feeling confused about what he should do.

Knock!

The sound of someone knocking on his car window caused him to look around. Seeing that the person was a guard of Hotel W, Han Ye rolled down the window. "Hey..."

"Oh, it's you, Mr. Han!" The guard took a step back and bowed before saying apologetically, "I'm sorry. I thought you're someone suspicious."

"It's fine. Erm..." Han Ye tapped his steering wheel for a few seconds before saying to the guard with a smile, "Is Head Manager Han in today?"

The guard nodded. "Head Manager Han said that he would be working until 9 p.m. tonight. He should be in his office right now."

Han Ye nodded. "Thanks."

He then went and parked his car at the valet parking area before walking into the hotel.

He sat at the coffee shop at Hotel W.

While sipping, a lot of thoughts ran through his mind. The old lady's words had troubled him since earlier, and he did not know if her words were true.

After all, he had forgotten most of the things that happened before he was five.

His mother told him that he had a high fever when he was about four or five, and after that, his memory from the time before then was mostly gone.

When he asked his mother about the things that happened before he turned five, she always said that there was nothing to remember about that period of time.

"Those times are best to be left forgotten..."

His mother often said with a sad expression.

From the things that his mother told him over the years, Han Ye knew that his birth father was the same as his mother's ex-boyfriend - abusive and cruel.

In his earliest memory, he remembered a bigger child... but he could never remember the face or anything else other than the older child standing in front of him with his arms spread open.

When he asked his mother, his mother often said that the child was a neighbor's kid who babysat him.

Subconsciously, Han Ye touched his left arm.

He could still remember the loud crack when his mother's ex-boyfriend broke his arm when he tried to protect his mother.

.....

Having gotten a thorough scolding at work, the man took out on his poor innocent wife whose only crime was forgetting to reheat the dinner for him.

Little Han Ye had stood with his arms wide open after his mother fell down from the man's punch.

"L-leave my mum alone, you b*stard!" Little Han Ye yelled at the gigantic man in front of him; his voice tremored slightly. His tears were welling in his eyes, and he was trembling as he faced the man that scared him every day.

Without a word, the man had grabbed Little Han Ye's arm and slammed him against the wall.

"Argghhh!!!!" Little Han Ye's scream was so loud that it could be heard from outside the house, and his mother would never ever forget that bloodcurdling scream of her son.

"No! Xiao Ye!" She crawled over to her son while begging the man to let them go.

"Behave yourself! I spent a lot of money raising that brat and he dares to talk back to me?!" the man snarled and spat at the floor near the mother-son duo.

After the man left, Feng Ruoyun called for an ambulance.

That was the last straw for her... She was willing to endure everything. She was used to it. First, it was her father... then her late husband... and now her boyfriend. No matter how hard her late husband or her ex-boyfriend hit her, she would endure for the sake of her son... And she would tell Little Han Ye to endure it as well.

"A few more years... Just a few more years until I put away enough money for a rent deposit..." She always said to Little Han Ye when he came to help her with her injuries.

However, when she saw her son rolling around the floor in pain while crying and holding his broken left arm, she snapped. She finally realized that she was not helping anyone if she continued to be with this man.

Still, afraid of repercussion from the man's equally abusive family members, Feng Ruoyun merely told the doctor that Little Han Ye fell down, which the boy supported as well. Even though Little Han Ye was disappointed that his mother seemed to want to stay with the man, he would not want his mother to get into any kind of trouble.

He knew that if he were to tell the truth, he might be removed from his mother. He worried about her, and if he were not there with her, he was afraid that the man might hurt her even more than he did now.

However, the next day, Little Han Ye got the biggest surprise in his life. Feng Ruoyun had packed everything and settled everything at her son's school before she went to the hospital to look for him. She took Little Han Ye from the hospital and took him on a run.

Since then, she had never had another man other than her son in her life. No matter how hard it was, Feng Ruoyun was willing to endure it. Nothing could be harder than having to constantly worry about their lives.

While taking a sip of his coffee, Han Ye figured that was why she did not want to talk about her past, or her abusive late husband, or the time she spent with the man.

Still... Not once did she ever mention Han Ye having an older brother.

"Why... did she leave him alone?" Han Ye thought with a frown. He could not think of any reason why his mother would keep such an important fact from him. "Why didn't she say anything to me?"

Han Ye thought about how Head Manager Han pestered him back when he pulled the plug on Wu Yuexue, and how the man continued to pester him despite being verbally abused by Han Ye. Whenever Han Ye threw Head Manager Han out of his house, the latter would always wait outside his house.

Head Manager Han would always get Han Ye his favorite food regardless of what Han Ye did with the food. And Han Ye admitted silently that he was less than nice to Head Manager Han.

Han Ye had thought that DX sent Head Manager Han to take care of him back then. But now that he knew about the truth...

"Was he worried about me? Had he known who I was back then?" Han Ye thought in frustration. "How? If the old lady was telling the truth, and that he is my older brother, then he shouldn't be more than 9 years old back then... If Mum..."

Han Ye did not want to accept the fact that his loving mother would do something so cruel to a 9-year-old boy... especially a boy who had a blood connection to her own son.

"Mr. Han," said someone with a familiar voice.
