Chapter 137 - Du Mansion Party (3)

Picking a stick of candied gr.a.p.es with her, she then walked toward the direction where the ladies went. After walking in the general direction of where she thought they were walking toward earlier, she found them standing behind a huge tree.

"Oh?" Xiao Lei murmured when she saw the two ladies, along with three others, were surrounding a young woman who was dressed in a simple light blue dress while holding a small Chanel clutch.

She looked at the two of the three women that she had not seen before and mumbled, "Dang, they have red wines... Ah, how I wish I'm not here for work today."

Xiao Lei was so upset about being unable to drink that she did not notice the chubby woman among the group of six in front of her.

She then sighed as she perked up her ears to listen to their conversation.

"Oh, you're CEO Wu's wife, Jun Ling, right?" asked the white-qipao woman with a smile. "I heard CEO Wu got himself a beautiful wife, but it doesn't seem like it..."

The woman named Jun Ling merely smiled. She nodded and tried to move past them, but the women stepped closer to each other to close the gap so that Jun Ling could not escape.

"My, we just want to chat with you. You can't be so ungracious, can you? This is what low-born is like..." the brown-haired woman sneered as she looked at Jun Ling with a disgusted expression. With a finger, she tipped Jun Ling's chin up and said softly, "You know, our husbands are on par with your husband, so you might want to be more respectful toward us. Otherwise, your husband might suffer because of your rudeness."

Jun Ling remained quiet and merely looked at the woman while smiling gently.

While inching closer to them, Xiao Lei placed her stick (gr.a.p.e-less) on a table near them, and when she was right behind those women, she suddenly yelled, "JUN LING!"

The other women got so startled that they jumped slightly; one of the two who were holding the glasses of red wines accidentally spilled her wine on the white-qipao woman.

Her yell caused others who were chatting nearby to turn around and pay attention to them.

The white-qipao woman yelled at her friend when she saw the red stain on her white qipao, "What are you doing?! This is a $15,000 limited edition dress! Argh!"

"S-sorry..." her friend stuttered in fear before she turned her eyes onto Xiao Lei. "It was her fault!"

Xiao Lei pretended not to know anything. Instead, she reached out and took Jun Ling's hand. "President Du is looking for you. Let's go now."

"You!" the white-qipao woman snapped. "Do you know how much this dress cost?!"

"$15,000. You just told everyone." Xiao Lei blinked innocently before turning around to walk away.

The white-qipao woman walked over to her and pulled Xiao Lei's hand sharply. "Pay damages!"

Xiao Lei glanced at the woman's hand that was on hers, and with one pull, she managed to pull her hand away while the white-qipao woman toppled over from the force.

"Oops..." Xiao Lei feigned shocked while the woman's friends went over to help her.

"Do you know who I am?!" the white-qipao woman yelled after she got up.

"No," Xiao Lei murmured. She thought for a moment before asking, "A maid?"

One of the woman's friends chuckled and immediately turned away when the white-qipao woman glared at her. The white-qipao woman then turned to Xiao Lei and snarled, "I'll make you pay for this!"

"Look. President Du is looking for her," Xiao Lei said in a frustrated manner while pointing at Jun Ling with her chin.

"Do you want to delay President Du's time?" Xiao Lei asked with a shocked expression while placing a hand on her chest. "Please let me know your name so that I can tell him. I mean, I don't want to bear any responsibility if he gets mad. You should know how President Du is when he gets angry..."

When the white-qipao did nothing but glower at her, Xiao Lei smiled politely. She then turned to Jun Ling and said, "I think so. Come, Jun Ling. We need to go talk to President Du."

After they left, one of the women in the group frowned while watching Xiao Lei and Jun Ling walked away. A moment later, she clapped her hands together and gasped, "Xiao Lei?"

....

Without paying attention to those women, Xiao Lei took the young woman's hand and led her into the mansion. They went toward the indoor dining area where a few young kids were chatting while playing with Pokemon cards.

"You shouldn't just stand there and let them bully you," Xiao Lei said sternly as she looked at the young woman who looked so fragile as if she was about to topple over anytime soon.

The young woman named Jun Ling merely smiled and nodded.

"You're Jun Ling, right? I overheard those women earlier. I'm Xiao Lei, Han Ye's assistant... if you know who he is. Where's your husband? I think you should stick to him. Otherwise, those crazy bit-" Xiao Lei glanced at the young kids nearby and changed her words. "Otherwise, those crazy women are going to pick on you again. Women in the upper society can be unnecessarily cruel, trust me! I know well about this."

Jun Ling stared at Xiao Lei without saying anything.

"Trust me! I used to work for them!" Xiao Lei said in frustration. She was unsure whether Jun Ling could understand her because the other woman merely smiled innocently at her.

Jun Ling c.o.c.ked her head and shrugged.

Xiao Lei sighed. "Hmm, I'll leave you here. You'll be safe here instead of out in the open. I need to go and eat more. At least this dress worth."

Jun Ling chuckled quietly, without any sound.

Xiao Lei glanced at her and smiled. "I don't know what they are talking about. You have to be a proper lady if you can chuckle without any sound."

Jun Ling merely smiled and nodded.

"I wonder if my boss is here..." Xiao Lei murmured as she patted her legs. "Sh*t! I forgot I left my bag behind! I'll see you soon! Stay away from quiet places. Otherwise, they can easily corner you. Those women are afraid of losing faces the most! As long as people can see them, they won't do anything stupid."

Jun Ling nodded and waved goodbye to Xiao Lei who was walking away so fast that she was basically walk-running.
