Chapter 106 - Run!

He did not notice the three people who were standing behind the curtains at the mini-stage inside the music room. The three people there had entered the room through the backdoor.

"What do you think?" Lyle asked. He was standing against the wall with his arms folded.

Jack nodded. "He's pretty good at singing."

"If he's pretty good, then you're a frog croak," Alex teased as she mimicked Jack's singing, which tended to be completely off the tune.

The men in the Du Family might be good in a lot of things, but singing was not one of them.

"Hey!" Jack scowled at her. He felt like all the girls that he hung out with had a habit of making fun of him. Alex. Quinn. Even Little Monkey would make fun of him sometimes. Annoyed, he then turned to Lyle and asked, "Why do you ask?"

"Well, I'm thinking of joining the online entertainment business," Lyle explained as he turned around to walk back toward his classroom.

"What? You? Ok, you aren't that much better than me when it comes to singing," Jack pointed it out outrightly as he walked next to his brother.

Lyle glared at him. "Not as an artist, but as a manager, you idiot! I'm curious about how far the online entertainment business can take me."

Jack scoffed, "You're like 13 years old. A manager? No one is going to take you for real."

"Still worth a try. Until we are old enough to take over the company, I might as well do something else first. It would be great for college application as well. If I fail, no one would know. If I succeed, it makes it easier when Dad pass the management of the company to us."

As she listened to Lyle's explanation, Alex raised a brow at him before she looked at Jack. "Are you sure you guys are twins? You're such a childish person, but Lyle's obviously a 50-year-old man in a 13-year-old body."

"Hey! Why do you have to keep insulting me? Stop attacking me! Just attack him!" Jack growled as he chased Alex around.

Lyle merely shook his head at their antics as he followed behind them. They had been friends since primary school, and like their godsister, Qhuinn, Alex loved to disturb Jack. Well, actually... Everyone loved to disturb Jack.

As he walked, he was thinking about how to approach Xiao Zhihao. There was another reason why he wanted to be the manager of an artist. He had heard about how dangerous the entertainment industry could be, especially when people schemed against you. He hoped that he would be able to train his gut feeling through this.

.....

In the same evening but at a town a few hours drive away, Callum sat in his hotel room. He was back at the other city to aid with the police investigation.

They found out the identity of the body that was buried under the roubles. It was currently being broadcasted on the news.

"The discovery of a fully decomposed body at a building that was recently bought over by Du Corporation has a shocking update. After the accidental explosion that happened last week, a skeletal remain was subsequently discovered to be under the concrete floor. Following the police investigation, the body has been identified. Shockingly enough, the body belonged to Zheng Hai, the missing patriarch of Zheng Family. Mr. Zheng has been missing for more than 20 years, and according to the police, based on the wounds on the skull, it is believed that Mr. Zheng was murdered... Further investigation..."

Callum turned off the TV at that point. He then groaned. "Urgh! I just want to go home! Why do I have to deal with this!"

A member of the Zheng Family would be arriving tomorrow, and so, Callum had to stay over to talk to them as well as offer his condolences. And in the morning, he had to go to the scene to direct his men as to what to do while the investigation was going on.

As he lay down on the bed, he took out his wallet. Looking at his and Luo Guangying's photo, he sighed. "My wife, I'd be back to warm up your bed soon..."

...

The next morning, Callum went back to the crime scene of the previous explosion. Because of the body that was found, at the moment, the area was taped with the yellow stay-out tapes. There were some nosy reporters around, but they were blocked. As the crime scene was private property and had yet to be declared to be safe, Callum had told his men to keep the reporters away at the security barrier, which was 50 meter away from the scene.

The detectives were still trying to get evidence that might tell them any information about the murderer, but he doubted that they would be able to get anything. After all, according to the coroner, Zheng Hai had been dead for more than 20 years, and the building had been rebuilt at least once in the past 20 years.

From the record of the land, it was originally a small house. After that, it was demolished around 20 or so years ago to make way for a new housing area and it was eventually turned into a small shop lot. After that, the place developed rapidly, and it was bought over by Du Corporation to build a new high-end supermarket.

After so many years, all the evidence would have been removed either by nature and time.

Callum watched the detectives while he talked to the manager of the project. The previous accident had caused the company a lot of money, and with each delay, it would cost even more and take longer to recoup.

"Once they are done with collecting their evidence, you can start working, but make sure that you cooperate with the detectives. No matter what, the victim was a big shot back then. If possible, I'd like to cooperate with them."

The manager of the site nodded. "Yes, Young Master Shenlong."

"Mr. Shenlong?"

Callum turned and saw the detective-in-charge of the investigation, Detective Qing. He greeted her, "Detective Qing. How's the search?"

She sighed and shook her head. "Too contaminated. We're almost done here and it would be up to the lab from now on."

Callum nodded. "If you need my help..."

She shook her head. "You've helped a lot by letting us do our work without any interference. This is police work from now on."

Suddenly, a few heavily tinted cars arrived and the noises attracted Callum and the detective's attention. Almost immediately, Callum felt something was wrong and he went into high alert as he yelled, "Run!"

Just as he yelled so, one of the cars rammed through the security barrier and headed toward them. Callum grabbed the female detective and pulled her aside for cover while the others scrambled for their lives. The policemen who were present at the scene immediately looked for a cover as they called for backups.

Callum was used to moving around without any bodyguards, but he knew that his brother had sent one to protect him nonetheless. Once he located the man's location, which was outside the security barrier, he signaled him to call for help.

Without any words, the masked men that came down from the car immediately started to fire shots at everyone. It seemed as if it were random, but most of the shots were targeted in the direction of Callum and the female detective.

Callum immediately pressed the detective down until she was almost on all four.

"Stop it, I'm a detective!" Detective Qing snapped as she pushed Callum's hand away and knelt on one knee as she checked out the situation.

"Sorry, habit," Callum murmured, but he kept his eyes on the other group of people hiding near him. Once he was sure that they were safe from any shots, he turned back to face Detective Qing.

She had pulled out a gun and checked it before she turned to fire a few shots at their assailants. She managed to hit two of them.

"Good shot!" Callum smirked. He then looked at the detective's other gun and asked, "Can I borrow your gun?"

"No! You're a civilian!"

Callum ignored her and quickly took the other gun that was in her gun belt.

"Hey!" she hissed, but the shots that hit the wall they were hiding behind caused her to stop speaking.

"I know what I'm doing," Callum said with a grin. As he checked the bullets in the gun, his eyes turned dark all of a sudden, causing Detective Qing to feel a chill running down her spine as she looked at his cold, emotionless expression.
