Chapter 99 - I'm a trash

Helpless against the power and money of his "in-laws", Han Ye had almost given up on life. He gave up looking for a job; he gave up on eating properly; he gave up on basic hygiene. Basically, he spent the next few days in a drunken state while he stumbled around Imperial City.

All the while, the only thing he could think of was his wife who might be leaving him anytime soon.

One day, when he was sitting opposite Hotel W, drunk as usual, he saw the famous President Du talking to his hotel staff in the lobby. Han Ye's lifeless eyes were locked at President Du. At that moment, he had an intense hatred for all rich people.

To him, each and every one of the rich people was the same. They hated the poor and that they believed they were above everyone else.

Yet, when he looked at DX, he could not help but hope that he was him. If he was DX...

An idea formed in Han Ye's brain and his previously lifeless eyes finally had some light in it. He pushed himself up and threw away the beer can he was holding. As he dragged his feet across the road without a care for the cars that honked at him and drivers that cursed at him, he murmured repeatedly, "Last chance..."

He waited outside the lobby and the moment DX walked out of the lobby, he immediately went to DX and knelt in front of him with his forehead touching the ground. "President Du, please help me!"

As if DX did not even see him, he merely kept walking. Even his bodyguards did not bat an eyelash at the kneeling man that they just walked past.

Desperate, Han Ye tried to grab DX's leg, but he was instantly pushed to the ground by the bodyguards.

"Get the trash out of my face," DX said coldly without even looking at the man who came to ask for his help. He merely kept walking without a break in his step.

"Please help me, President Du! I'd do anything you want! Even if you want me to be a dog, I'd do it! I just need your help to save my wife! They are going to kill her!" Han Ye yelled like a madman as a guard pushed his face down on the ground.

DX was about to enter his car when he heard Han Ye. He then stopped in his track and turned to look at Han Ye. With a condescending glare, he sneered, "Your wife is your problem. If you can't protect her, that's not my problem. Besides, I don't f*cking know you, why should I help you?"

He then turned to Head Manager Han and said, "Don't let people like this near the hotel. It's bad for business. Trash don't belong in front of Hotel W. If he won't leave, just get someone to get rid of him. This is a hotel, not a place for useless men to gather around."

Head Manager Han nodded after a moment of hesitation.

"Get in the car. I still have things to say to you..." DX said as he got into his car.

After the car drove off, Han Ye was released by the guards with a warning to stay away. However, he did not get up from his kneeling position. Instead, he kept staring at his hands.

"I can't protect her..." he murmured as tears fell from his cheeks. His forehead was bleeding from when he kowtowed to DX earlier, but he did not even notice. Not even when the blood mixed with his tears and dropped onto the floor.

"Trash..." Han Ye laughed wryly. "Yes, I'm a trash... Being low-born and all..."

He then slowly dragged his body and his broken mind and slowly walked away from the hotel. He had enough of this world, and he was going to end everything.

For some unknown reason, 15 minutes later, DX's car stopped next to him.

As Han Ye looked at the car with an emotionless gaze, DX lowered the window. Without looking at Han Ye, he said, "10 years slave bond."

It took Han Ye a few seconds to understand his words, but the moment he did, he nodded. "I'll do it! I'll do it! Not just 10 years! If you want my life, please! Take it!"

"We'll talk about the terms tomorrow. Come to my office tomorrow at 8 am," DX said. He looked at Han Ye's disheveled look and sneered, "And clean yourself up! If you don't know where my office is, then don't bother coming!"

With that said, the window rolled up again and the car drove off for the second time.

The next morning, Han Ye cleaned himself up and dressed smartly before he went to DX's office. He reached at 7 am and waited outside in the waiting room. When he saw DX arriving at the office at 8 am sharp, he stood up to greet him, but it was like he was invisible again. DX merely walked past him and went into his office while his secretary chased after him with a bundle of doc.u.ments in her hands.

Han Ye clenched his fists, but he did not say anything. He merely sat there quietly. Time slowly passed by and by the time he was called to enter DX's office, it was almost 12 pm.

The moment he walked in, he saw DX going through a folder. On his table, there was a heap of doc.u.ments waiting for him to go through.

Before Han Ye could even say anything, without looking up from the folder, DX said sharply, "If you're going to work for me, don't wait there like an idiot. Why would I need a secretary if I can remember about my own schedules?"

Han Ye did not protest. He merely nodded and said, "Noted."

DX placed the folder down and looked at Han Ye. His eyes were sharp as he made his own notes of the man in front of him. He silently approved when Han Ye showed him confidence instead of groveling at his feet like last night.

Han Ye had shaved and washed. He was wearing his usual work attire, neatly ironed.

DX pulled a folder from his pile of doc.u.ments. He crossed his legs and read it as he said, "You have 15 minutes. Tell me why do you need my help."

Without sitting down, Han Ye told him everything. He told him about how Wu Yuexue's accident was caused by the other party, but because of the man's relationship with a minister, he merely got off with a fine despite driving drunk and way out of the speed limit.

"My wife... She's brain dead now, but he thinks that money would be able to clear off everything. I want him to pay for what he did!" Han Ye said as he clenched his fists tightly while trying his best to hold his tears back.

Whenever he thought about how the judge ignored all the reasonings and how the prosecutors went for the lowest punishment, he could not help but get angry again. The young man who caused the accident came from a powerful family. Even Wu Yuexue's parents could not do anything toward him without a backlash.

DX thought for a while before he said, "I can use my methods to reopen the case, that's not a problem. You said that your wife's going to die. What's with that?"

Han Ye sighed and told him everything. "They are going to pull the plug, and... I can't let her go yet."

"She's brain dead. There's no way for her to come back to life," DX said as a matter-of-fact.

"NO!" Han Ye snapped and slammed his hands on the table. When he realized what he had done, he immediately pulled his hands back and apologized. "She can still come back to me, as long as I wait for her. One day, she might still return."

DX glanced at him. After some thoughts, he said, "I don't care what you want to do with her, but I can help you get her back. You'll sign a contract for 10 years. During the next 10 years, you'd go with minimum pay, no raise, no annual leaves, nothing. You're just slightly better than a slave. You can't even bring this contract to court, and you won't even have a right to complain, and you'll do whatever I tell you to do. As for her, I doubt that you'd be able to keep her at home. I'll pay for her medical bills, but if I'm not happy with your performance, I'll kick both of you out."

"I'll do it!" Han Ye gulped. "I'll do my best!"

DX raised a brow. "Don't you want to think about it first?"

Han Ye shook his head and said, "I'll do it! Whatever it takes to keep her by my side, I'll do it!"

DX looked at the young man in front of him. He could see the hope in the man's eyes, which was nonexistent last night. "You know... None of my secretaries managed to survive for more than 3 months. If you break this contract, not only do you have to pay me $1 million in compensation, you'd lose everything that I've given you as well. It's a very unfair contract for you and I'd advice-"

Han Ye shook his head as he quickly said, "No! I don't need all those! Without Yuexue, I have nothing else!"

DX stared at him for a few seconds. He did not understand men who allowed emotions to take over their rationality, but since he promised someone that he would take care of this, then he would do it.

"In that case, go through the contract and sign it when you're done," DX said as he threw a contract at Han Ye. "The woman out there is leaving next Tuesday. You'll go back, settle whatever you need to settle, then come in on Monday to takeover. I'm sure you can do the takeover within one day, right, Mr. Han?"

"Yes, sir!" Han Ye said. For the first time in a very long time, he had a smile on his face and a glimmer of hope in his life.
