Chapter 14 – Carpark Commotion

Luo Bei and Grandma Luo had one merit in common and that was, no matter how curious they were towards others, as long as the other party did not initiate the conversation, they would never pry.

For example, Luo Bei was really curious about Jiang Sihan’s identity, what he was working as and why he would let himself be in such a miserable state. Because even if he was working as a dishwasher at a restaurant, it didn’t make sense that he would starve himself to emancipation.

He had all limbs intact and looked handsome. It would actually be quite easy for him to find a job, or at least there would be no issue in terms of food.

But no matter how curious she was, Luo Bei didn’t want to ask him…

After all, there was nothing between them, they were only landlady and tenant.

After stuffing the crabs and fruits to Jiang Sihan, Luo Bei had no reason to linger at the door.

Just when Luo Bei was about to leave, Jiang Sihan stopped her and hesitantly asked, “Is Miss Zhao’s child okay now?”

That day he stayed until he confirmed the safe birth of the baby and immediately left the hospital. He had not seen Zhao Pianpian this entire month either.

“Not too bad.” Luo Bei thought about it and said, “I almost forgot, Pianpian appreciates what you did. Her baby’s man yue1man yue (满月) of the baby’s birth. is the day after tomorrow. If you’re free, would you please come over for a meal and celebrate the baby’s man yue?”

“The day after tomorrow?”

“Yeah. We’re only planning to invite a few people, so the banquet would be set up at my house.”

Jiang Sihan nodded, “Ok, then, I’ll make sure to come the day after tomorrow.”

The tradition for man yue here was to give red envelopes or prepare gifts, but Luo Bei felt that both of them would make things difficult for Jiang Sihan so she added, “Pianpian is only planning to have a simple meal to celebrate so you don’t need to prepare a red envelope. We won’t be preparing any too. Same goes with presents. The child has everything, it’s useless giving him things…” Luo Bei paused, “How about you bring your guitar and sing a song for the baby. Maybe a birthday song? We have to make it festive somehow, right?”

As she dealt with more people daily, she found out that with straight men, you really shouldn’t speak in circles. It was better to say things in a straightforward manner.

Jiang Sihan immediately nodded and agreed, “Okay.”

Seeing that he promised so quickly, he would not make things hard on himself to prepare gifts or red envelopes anymore.

Luo Bei did not expect to run into Lei Yuhao.

Here’s what happened. Luo Bei followed her boss to entertain clients and today’s venue was the most famous seafood restaurant in the city. From the outside, it was as grand as a five-star hotel. Her boss came to ask for a favor so she told Luo Bei to go to the carpark and take out a bottle of good wine from the trunk.

Luo Bei had just arrived at the parking lot and heard someone arguing before she could find her boss’ car.

She stopped in her tracks, perked her ears and began to eavesdrop.

“I can’t believe that you would suddenly cancel the engagement and suddenly ignore me!” The woman’s shrill voice pierced the air, “Didn’t we agree on it already? What’s going on now? Everyone knows that you don’t want me, that you don’t want to marry me. Did you consider how I would feel?”

The man’s voice was very indifferent and polite, “Miss Lu, I’ve made it very clear to you. I was willing to be your husband in name before but now I don’t want to anymore. It won’t look good if you keep latching onto me.”

“Lei Yuhao, did you think I didn’t know? Is it because of your previous secretary? I knew there was something going on between you two.” The woman began to sneer, “What, you want to marry her? Can she help you? As far as I know, her parents have passed away and she’s just an ordinary person. She’s already crossing the line by being your lover, you still want her to be Mrs. Lei?”
