Chapter 42

It was ten o’clock at night.

Ye Chen got out of the taxi and was going back to Grand City Apartments. He did not know if Sun Yi had returned. She could not be reached the entire night which made him worried.

Just as Ye Chen was about to walk into the gate of the place, a bright light shone toward him and was accompanied by a few car horns. It seemed that someone was asking him to go to their side.

Ye Chen furrowed his eyebrows and saw a woman sitting in the driver seat. He ignored her and walked straight toward Grand City Apartments.

Although he could not make out who the woman in the car was, it was definitely not Sun Yi.

As a matter of fact, the person in the car was Xia Ruoxue. There was an impromptu meeting for all the groups and corporations tonight. All the executives had to attend, but Xia Ruoxue realized that Sun Yi did not show up. All her calls could not get through, and she was not there for the entirety of the meeting.

She knew something was up because Sun Yi was never late nor had she ever excused herself early since the very first day she joined the corporation.

She suspected something had happened to Sun Yi.

Therefore, she looked up Sun Yi’s personal information in the forms and found this place. She was about to get out of the car and go up the apartment to check on her, but she saw Ye Chen instead.

Since Ye Chen provided the prescription, she had specially hired a private detective to investigate Ye Chen.

Never in a million years did she expect his personal information to be almost blank. She could not find out where this man came from nor why he had come to River City.

One should know that in order to live in Hua Xia, even a beggar could not yield a blank sheet of information.

The only possibility for a blank sheet of personal information was that the party’s personal information had been protected by a higher authority.

Since then, Xia Ruoxue started getting curious about this fellow called Ye Chen. Of course, it was not mere curiosity but hatred as well. Ye Chen was the first guy who dared to reject her in years!

When Xia Ruoxue saw that Ye Chen was ignoring her, she was furious and balled her hands in a fist. She saw that he was about to disappear from her view soon, so she could only get down the car and ran after Ye Chen.

“Ye Chen, stop right this instance!” A clear voice sounded.

Ye Chen turned automatically and finally had a clear view of the woman before his eyes.

Although Ye Chen had seen his share of beautiful ladies, he could not help but be stunned by the lady in front of him.

The lady had skin as white as snow, long hair that was curled in small waves that cascaded down her back. She looked tired, but her eyes were clear and sparkling. Coupled with her enchanting and attractive eye shape, she was beautiful and untouchable.

She was biting her bright red lip at the moment, and her pale skin made her looked a bit sickly but confident.

Ye Chen had compared the woman in front of her with Sun Yi subconsciously. Appearance-wise, this woman was obviously better looking than Sun Yi, but Sun Yi’s sexiness was hands down the best.

Even so, this lady had a nice body with visible curves, and if she wore a sexier outfit, she would have scored higher.

As Ye Chen was sizing up Xia Ruoxue, she said, “Ye Chen, didn’t you see that I was trying to stop you just now?”

Ye Chen stopped examining her and said coldly, “Who are you? Why did you want to stop me?”

Xia Ruoxue took a step forward and declared proudly, “I heard that you threw hands at the Magnificent Group Building just to see me. Now you’re seeing me in the flesh and you’re giving me this attitude?”

Ye Chen realized then the lady in front of him was one of Jiangnan Province’s top three beauties, Xia Ruoxue. She was the president of the Magnificent Group and was also Sun Yi’s top superior.

Ye Chen swept his eyes across Xia Ruoxue’s face and breathed a long sigh of relief. Her face was not yet destroyed as described by his master which meant that she was still safe for the time being.

“What’s your sigh supposed to mean? Does my presence disappoint you?” Xia Ruoxue felt angry when she saw him shaking his head and sighing.

How dare someone treated her this way as the precious daughter of the Xia Family? She felt that she was being judged by the cover.

“Nothing. If there’s nothing you need to tell me then I’ll be leaving,” Ye Chen said.

Xia Ruoxue gathered her composure and set aside her own thoughts as she asked, “Are you living with Sun Yi?”

“That’s correct.” Ye Chen nodded.

Xia Ruoxue was confused about why she felt disappointed when she found out the two of them lived together.

“Don’t misunderstand. When I came to River City, I was homeless and Sun Yi decided to take me in.”

Xia Ruoxue felt a sense of relief and continued, “Sun Yi was absent during the impromptu group meeting today. Do you know where she went?”

“I don’t know.”

With that, Ye Chen turned to leave. He hated people chasing him down and asking him questions. Moreover, he felt like he was not obliged to answer any of them.

When Xia Ruoxue saw how impatient Ye Chen was, she was baffled and shouted quickly, “Ye Chen, stop right there!”

Ye Chen did not stop.

Xia Ruoxue’s hands were balled into fists, and she was so angry that she stomped her feet on the ground!

‘You were so adamant to meet me just a few days ago, so why were you’re being so impatient when I finally appeared?’

‘Am I, Xia Ruoxue, not good enough in Ye Chen’s eyes?’

Xia Ruoxue could not hold it in any longer. She shouted, “Ye Chen, why is a grown man like you staying together with Sun Yi? Don’t you know that it’ll affect Sun Yi’s reputation? Also, don’t think that getting your occasional prescription means that you’re well provided for. Let me tell you something, Ye Chen. If you continue living this way, you’ll eat up everything and end up with nothing! You’ll destroy yourself at the end!”

Ye Chen stopped in his steps, turned around, and walked toward Xia Ruoxue.

Xia Ruoxue did not dare to say a word as she stared at the man before her.

“Xia Ruoxue, do you think you know me very well? Or do you think because you’re the princess of the Jiangnan Province’s Xia Family you have the authority to accuse other people as you like?”

“That’s not…” Xia Ruoxue’s voice sounded very much like a whisper. She was a little scared now.

A chilling grin tugged at the corners of Ye Chen’s lips.

“Since you don’t know me well, then what right do you have to criticize me? I don’t care whether you’re the president of the Magnificent Group or the princess of Jiangnan Province’s Xia Family. Even if you’re from Capital City’s top family, please turn your arrogance down a few notches when you’re in my presence. Anything that I do is none of your business.”

Xia Ruoxue took a step back and was completely taken aback by Ye Chen’s imposing manner. The rim of her eyes grew red as she felt that she was being blamed for nothing.

“I didn’t mean… I’m just…”

Ye Chen did not give Xia Ruoxue a chance to explain herself and left as he came. In his eyes, it did not matter whether Xia Ruoxue came from a noble family because she might be among those who could do nothing but look up at Ye Chen!

After Ye Chen left, Xia Ruoxue could not hold it any longer and started to cry.

Ever since she was young, she had always been the princess of the Xia Family sitting high up on the throne. Nobody had dared to talk to her this way.

Who would be brave enough to discipline her that way?

After her crying session, Xia Ruoxue seemed to have been awakened from something. It was as if Ye Chen’s scolding finally got through her.

A few years ago, did she not leave Xia Family to create Magnificent Group because she wanted to get out of Xia Family’s shadow?

After all these years, she thought she had succeeded. In the end, however, it turned out that she was still heavily dependent on the Xia Family and nothing had changed.

She looked toward Ye Chen’s direction with her eyes still glistening from the tears. She mumbled, “Ye Chen, what kind of person are you, really?”
