Chapter 266 - What A Day!

Sunday morning.

Alex wakes up that morning feeling energized. He is going to church today. He will be attending the Baptismal of the twins. He is going there to the St. Agnes Parish Church to get a glimpse of Caroline, his number one obsession.

He went down into the dining room to eat breakfast alone since Greg already went back to the beach house three days ago.

While eating, he was already imagining the surprised look on Caroline's face after seeing him in the church. If she makes a big deal out of it and inquired why he was at the church on the same day of the twins Baptismal then he would just say that he usually goes to the St. Agnes Parish Church every Sunday.

He can always lie out of the situation. It's not like it's illegal to go to any church.

Well, he just wants to see her again in person even it's far away. He has no wish to destroy the joyous occasion.

With those thoughts running in his mind and a clear conscience, Alex finishes his meal in just a matter of seconds.

He went upstairs and entered his room full of energy while humming a song. He went inside the bathroom and took a shower that lasted for fifteen minutes.

After finishing the shower, he exited the bathroom, went to the closet, and chose a formal long sleeve white polo shirt and black trouser for the said occasion. He styled his hair and inspected his attire in front of the mirror.

Satisfied with his dashing appearance, he's now ready to go.

He was humming a love song when he went downstairs. He exited the house and went inside his car, driving the vehicle out of the gate of his mansion.

A few minutes later, Alex was already driving his car on the busy highway going to St. Agnes Parish Church.

After half an hour, he finally arrived at his destination.

He parked his car in the parking lot of the church and went inside.

The church was half full when he arrived. He lowered himself on the last row of the bench near the entrance of the church. He chose that area because he wanted to see the couple when they entered the church.

Ten minutes later, his waiting was finally over.

Caroline and Mike entered the church. They were carrying the twins in their arms along with their entourage.

Alex watched as the couple and their families went to the front row and took their seats.

The parish priest took his position at the altar, and the mass begins.

Alex watched as the priest called for the babies and their parents to come in front so that the Baptismal Ceremony can be started. Five sets of proud parents, together with their babies as well as the godmothers and godfathers' came forward. The priest began anointing the holy water on the babies' forehead.

The Baptismal Ceremony finally ended. The families pose with their families in front of the altar for picture taking.

Alex stared intensely at Caroline... she wore a dazzling smile on her face while carrying one of the twins in her arms. His gaze shifted at her husband beside her. Mike was looking at every inch of a happy and proud father. He wished he was the one standing beside Caroline holding their baby.

He sighed heavily, his heart filled with envy.

Tsk...Tsk...Tsk!... such a twisted and wicked fantasy.

The ceremony was over, and the crowd starts getting out of the church.

Alex saw that Caroline's entourage was leaving.

He pretended to gaze at the altar...looking specifically at Mike. That was also the moment Mike was looking his way, and their eyes met.

Mike grinned after spotting him sitting alone on the wooden bench. He went to his side and greeted him. "Bro, Daniel! Long time no see!"

"Hello bro, is that your baby?" Daniel asked while looking at the baby that Mike was carrying in his arms.

"Yes, God blessed me and my wife with twins! It's their baptism today. Good thing, you also come here at the right time. Why don't you join us in the Baptismal Party venue?" he invited him.

Daniel smiled. "A-are you inviting me?" he asked to be sure.

"Yes! Please join us in this special celebration," Mike said.

Caroline was staring at Alex... her eyes widened in shock and surprise. OMG! Why he's here? How did he know that it's her children's baptismal ceremony today? And how did he come to the right place? Did he assign people to spy on her activities? And if yes... what for?

Their eyes met for a few seconds, she quickly turned her gaze away and exited the church without waiting for her husband.

Back in the church.

"Thank you. I would love to come and join you at the celebration," Daniel said.

The men left the church and boarded their respective vehicles.

Daniel was following the couple's car.

He recalled how Caroline's eyes widened in shock after she spotted him inside the church, talking to her husband. It's too late now to refuse Mike's offer. Whether Caroline likes it or not, he is going to attend their little celebration. If he can find a time to talk to her, he will apologize and assure her that he didn't come to destroy their happiness. He wants to attend the event for a few minutes and leave them in peace.

That's it!

They reached their destination.

The Baptismal Party event was held in the function room of the newly opened luxury hotel in town...no other than...The Crown Hotel.

The function room was already swarming with business people. They were mostly Susan's friends and acquaintances in the business world. Daniel even knows some of the people there and mingled with them.

Mike was busy attending to some high profile guests, while Caroline was sitting in the chair in the corner, feeding her baby.

Alex went to her side and sat on the chair, facing her. "Hi, Caroline. Long time no see. I want to congratulate you on this special day," he greeted her with a smile, a sense of longing flashing in his eyes.

Caroline sighed and looked at him in the eyes. "W-why are you here?" she asked in a trembling voice.

"I was right in the church where the baptismal took place. Your husband invited me. It's rude to refuse his invitation...that's why I'm here...I'm sorry if you don't like my presence here," he apologized.

"C-can you please leave now...please?" she pleaded. Talking to someone that belongs to her dark past bothered her terribly and made her nervous. "Please... don't destroy this happy occasion... I begged you," she said, teary-eyed.

Alex saw the fear and panic leaping from her eyes. He understood very well how difficult it is for her to maintain a straight face while they were surrounded by the crowd of visitors and her family. "Alright, I'll take my leave now," he said sadly and walked towards the entrance of the venue. He left without bothering to say goodbye to Mike.

Back in the party.

Caroline released a sigh of relief after she saw Alex exited the door.

She can breathe easily now. She joined her husband in talking to the guest.

Minutes went by.

Delicious, mouthwatering dishes, as well as wine and drinks, flowed endlessly the entire day.

The guest indulged themselves in endless chattering and socializing serenaded by a piece of lovely music playing in the air.

Hours went by.

The Baptismal Celebration was a big success. Everyone was having a good time.

The couple went home that night feeling happy and satisfied with the successful event attended by their family and high profile guests in the business industry.

As for Caroline, her night has just begun.
