Chapter 191 - Transition

Caroline woke up at 8:00 in the morning.

She went inside the bathroom.

A moment later she emerges from the door and sauntered towards the bed, she began combing her hair and tied it into a ponytail.

She heard a soft knocking on the door.

"Caroline, breakfast is ready!" Allison announced.

"Okay, thanks, I'll come down in a moment," answered Caroline.

She took a deep breath, then walked towards the door and made an exit.

Going down the stairs, Caroline saw Allison sitting in the living room while busy looking at her mobile device.

Allison raised her head and looked at Caroline.

"Did you sleep well?" she asked.

Caroline nodded her head and replied. "Yes, thank you."

"That's awesome! Let's have breakfast first, then talk for a few minutes regarding your stay in my brother's house."

"Okay," answered Caroline.

The two women went to the dining room and eats breakfast in silence.

After finishing breakfast, they retired upstairs in the mini bar room.

"Do you like to drink wine?" asked Allison.

Caroline shook her head. "No..."

Allison poured wine into the wineglass and sips it, she sat on the sofa facing her companion.

"I wanted to talk to you about my brother Alex. He and I were like... color black and white. He is the white one and I'm the black one. I'm a sinner, my brother is not. So, naturally, he would be asking you lots of questions when you begin your stay there at his house."

Caroline was listening closely to Allison's words.

"I want you to ignore my brother's questioning and just tell him that you want to be with Greg until he passed away," Allison said and paused for a minute. "This plan used to be easy, but now it becomes complicated because you marry Mike. My brother would ask you why did you leave your husband and chose to be with your 'ex' Greg. That would bother him a lot and he might try to set things right..."

Caroline's brows furrowed. "What do you mean?"

"He might contact your husband and find out the truth, then tell Mike about you. You know already what would happen next. If you have not married Mike, my brother won't do anything. Just that...for him, it's not right that you will be living in his house while your husband doesn't know about it. He is naturally curious, he will dig and prove deeper until he finds out the truth about Brenda and you..."

Caroline sighed. "So...if you want me to go through all these then you have to find a way how to stop your brother from digging into my secrets...our secrets," she emphasizes the last words.

"You are right..." Allison nods her head. She went in a silent mood for a moment. "Just stay here for a while. I'll go to my brother's house now and talk to him first. I just need to iron things out with him before I will bring you to his house," she said. "I'll call you after he's ready to welcome you," she added.

"Okay, I'll just wait here for you," Caroline replied.

Allison and Caroline went out of the mini bar room and entered their separate rooms.

Caroline took some clothes with her and entered the bathroom to take a shower.

While inside Allison's room...

Her mind was preoccupied with what she's going to tell her brother. Everything she does is for her dying brother's happiness. She was just hoping that Alex will cooperate with her and not give Caroline a hard time in his house.

She quickly finished donning clothes on her body. She grabbed her car keys and her cellphone. She no longer needs to inform her brother that she's coming to his house because she already told him last night that she will bring Caroline over to his house, therefore, he was already waiting for their arrival as of this moment.

Allison left the room, went downstairs, and get inside her car.

A moment later, she was already driving her car towards Alex's house.

After more than half an hour of driving, she finally arrived at her destination.

Allison's car entered the gate and she parked the car in front of the house. She exited the vehicle and entered the living room. Just in time when her brother was going down on the stairs.

Alex raised her brows. He was expecting to see Caroline with his sister, but it looks like, her sister comes alone. "Where is Caroline, sis?" he inquired.

Allison waited until her brother sat on the sofa facing her before she replied to his question.

"I'm not gonna bring my girl here if you would only terrorize her. I want you to promise me that you won't be asking her many questions and you would allow Caroline to be with Greg so that our dying brother can have his final wish. I'm doing this for our little brother, you should at least refrain from poking into the wrong places. I mean... just cooperate with me so that we can give our brother his happiness before he passes away. I promise you, after Caroline did her job and Greg passed away, I'll tell you everything..."

Alex's brows furrowed. "You want me to act as if Caroline's presence here is nothing and she doesn't exist?"

"That would be nice. Or, if you can't do it...I'll have a better option for you. I'll take custody of my brother and I will put him in a place where he and Caroline can live together in peace without your interference. Now, I'll give you a few minutes to decide, brother," she gave her ultimatum calmly.

Alex was dumbfounded. The truth is, he doesn't want to let go of his brother and he wants to see Caroline in his house and unravel her mystery. As of this moment, he needs to cooperate with his sister so that he will know everything.

For now, he will compromise with his sister so that they all can get what they want in the end.

"Alright, deal! I'll keep my mouth shut," he answered.

Allison grinned triumphantly. "Believe me, this set up is good for everyone involved."

"Okay, as you say so. Bring her to my house anytime," he said cheerfully.

"Did you already told Greg about Caroline's coming?"

He shook his head. "Not yet. Let's keep it as a surprise for him."

Allison rose to her feet. "Alright, instruct your maid to prepare the room for Caroline."

"Okay, I'll do that."

"I'm leaving now, see you later, bro." Allison sauntered towards the door and entered her car.

Allison's car was out of the gate within five minutes.

Alex called one of the housemaids and instructed her to clean the room between his and Greg's room.

The housemaid obeyed.

Alex remained in the living room thinking about his guest.

For some reason... the thought of seeing Caroline daily in his house is kind of exciting! Well, he shouldn't be feeling that kind of emotion right now. But hell...as long no one knows then he can continue feeling that way.

Anyways, it's just a feeling of excitement, a positive feeling, not exactly a bad feeling.

He rose to his feet and climbs the stairs wanting to check the room himself.

He entered the room while the housemaid was busy dusting the entire area. The room is spacious, it has its bathroom and closets, it was also equipped with a 30 inches flat-screen TV.

Caroline won't be bored staying in this room.

"Put new bedsheets on..." he instructed the maid.

"Yes Sir!" the housemaid replied.

Alex exited the room and went to his study room.

~~~0~~~
Thirty minutes later.
Allison had already arrived at her mansion.
She went upstairs and knocked on the room that her guest was currently occupying.
Caroline opened the door wide for the owner of the house to enter.
Allison went inside and sat on the edge of the bed, Caroline did the same.
"I have a serious talk with my brother and he promises me that he won't ask you too many questions. I told him that this is all for my brother Greg, and he understands my point. Don't worry, he won't be pestering you all the time. I already warned him. Tell me if he starts prodding on stuff that he shouldn't be meddling around with."
Caroline nodded her head. "Okay."
"I'll go to my room first. I will give you an hour to finish packing your things, if you already finished doing so, you can wait for me in the living room," Allison said and stood up.
"I'll be finished after a few minutes," Caroline responded.
Allison nods her head and left the room.
Caroline puts all her clothes in the bed and began folding them, then she put them back in the traveling bag.
She double checks the entire room if she didn't miss anything.
Since Allison give her one hour, she might as well stay in the room for a few minutes. She lies down in the bed in a fetal position and closed her eyes. She will be going to the house where Greg was staying.
She will be seeing the two brothers every day.
She released a deep sigh.
She needs to adjust so that she can co-exist well with the two brothers under the same house. She knows Greg's attitude well, it's Alex's attitude that she would be having a hard time adjusting with.
The inevitable is now happening, she made an oath before never to step into that house ever again, ironically, she was going to live there for many months. What a cruel twist!
The devil must have heard her and suddenly decided to teach her a lesson.
It seemed destiny is mocking her...now.
Thirty minutes later, Caroline gets up from the bed and for one last time, she looked all over the room making sure she got all her stuff back in the bag.
Satisfied...she turns off the television and the air conditioner.
Grabbing her luggage, she walked towards the door and exited.
She went downstairs, waiting for Allison in the living room.
