Chapter 139 - Doesn't Matter Anymore

The afternoon was gone quickly and the evening comes.

During the night, Caroline had a hard time sleeping.

She kept seeing Brenda in her mind. The woman's face was scary to look at. She remembered that if she was not able to hit the bottle of acid with her feet, maybe she was already suffering a 3rd-degree burn and a disfigured face right now.

Hmph, that woman was really serious in destroying her face. If she didn't kill Brenda chances are — she was the one who got killed right now.

Right now, her emotion was like a bouncing pendulum, rotating between feeling guilty that she killed Brenda, and then not feeling guilty at all after she remembered that woman was trying to kill her.

It's already 10:00 in the evening and she can't sleep, she was afraid of falling asleep thinking that Brenda will come into her sleep, give her nightmares and kill her. She was afraid that she will die and not able to wake up in the morning.

Ever since she killed Brenda, she's going crazy!

Dammit!

With the way, she was behaving!

She's going insane anytime soon.

Aargh! She wants to find a way how to end this nightmare.

By 11:00, one hour before midnight.

Caroline's eyes were still wide awake.

She can't sleep!

She was startled by the sound of her phone ringing, she only felt relieved after seeing that it's Mike calling her.

"Sweetie...are you still awake?" he asked.

"Yeah, I am. I am watching a horror movie right now, it's so scary. I wish you are here by my side so that I can hide behind your back," she lied while attempting to make a joke.

Mike chuckled at the other end. "You shouldn't watch horror movies, you will have a hard time sleeping after the movie ends," he said.

"Why is that?" she asked.

"Because the gores and horrors you see in the movie will visit you in your dream, they will give you nightmares," Mikes explained.

Caroline starts laughing hard because what is giving her nightmares nowadays are not horror movies. Her nightmares are real! The murder she had committed and trying to sweep under the rug is real and it's eating at her conscience.

"Sweetie...why are you laughing?" he asked.

"Nothing. All I can say is that horror movies are not as scary compared to real-life happenings," she answered.

"W-what do you mean?" he pressed on.

"Murders happened everywhere all over the world. People will intentionally or accidentally kill other people for so many reasons," she said, giving him a hint of her tribulations.

"Agree, you are right. But let's not talk about murderers and killers, we're not one of them. Let's forget that topic, instead, let's talk about us," he said.

"Okay, so, what we're going to talk about?" she asked.

"Let's talk about getting married and having children. How many kids do you want to have?"

Caroline was silent for a moment biting her lower lip. "Ahh...three only. Let's have two boys and one girl because I already have baby Cathy," she responded.

"Alright, I'm okay with four children including our eldest, baby Cathy," he said in a serious tone.

She was touched deeply by his acceptance of baby Cathy. "Thank you for accepting my daughter," she said taking a deep breath.

"Of course, she is your baby, I will accept her as my own. I'm willing to adopt her and let her carry my surname if you allowed me to," he said.

"Ah, no need. Hector and Clara won't allow baby Cathy's surname change to others. Let's just keep things as it is," she murmured.

"Okay, no problem. So, let's talk about our wedding. When are you going to marry me in the church? Let's make our relationship official," he said.

Caroline yawned all of a sudden, faking it so that Mike will think that she's already sleepy.

"Sweetie, are you sleepy now?" he asked.

"Yes. I'm feeling sleepy. The movie already ended. I'm going to sleep now, you should sleep too. Regarding our wedding, let's talk about it after you return," she said.

"Alright, sweet dreams, sweetie. I love you!"

"I love you too! Bye, goodnight!" Caroline said and ended their conversation on the phone.

She's feeling guilty that she was lacking excitement when Mike starts talking about wedding bells. She's just not into it anymore, she has more pressing matters to worry about.

Would Mike even willing to marry her after he finds out that she murdered someone and she's not willing to surrender to the police yet.

The truth is, she was terrified of what Mike will think of her after he finds out. As much as she wanted to tell him about the murder, she was afraid that his feelings for her will change and she might have a nervous breakdown if he will break up with her.

After the murder incident, she used to think that she can let go of Mike. But right now she was holding on to his love like a drowning person.

She realized she can't let go of him.

She desperately needed someone like him in her troubled life, a rock that she can lend and depend on.

She was thinking about the wedding...

Is it alright to go with the wedding even if she had all the intention not to tell Mike that she had killed someone?

Right now...looking deep into her heart...she's not ready yet to lose Mike.

Hmmm...she needs to think straight.

But she wants to marry him and secure her position as his wife.

Then a brilliant plan was hatched in her mind.

She grinned happily for the first time since the night she killed Brenda.

She would marry Mike... ASAP!

Not at the altar, definitely not a church wedding, but a civil wedding!

A civil wedding officiated by a judge, it's also legally binding just like the church wedding.

Then she will disappear from Mike's life for a couple of months and then resurface later after Greg died.

Since she is Mike's legal wife, she can always come back to his life. She believes that Mike will wait for her return no matter what because he loves her so much just like the way John waited patiently for her twin when Catherine disappeared without a trace.

Mike and John are blood brothers, therefore they're both loyal and devoted to their wife!

She can go on with the same route.

She was sure 100% that after she vanished for several months, Mike would still be willing to accept her with open arms when she returns.

Such a fantastic idea!

The more she thinks about it, the more she wants to marry Mike as soon as possible! Then she will ask him to erect a house in her recently purchased land in Davao City, they can live there permanently.

She wants to live far away from Allison — the woman who knows her dark secret.

If she's already far away, Allison can no longer go after her. Then she will be able to hide her dark secret from her husband Mike, forever.

Oh My God!

She squealed in glee.

What a very handy solution to her dilemma. To make sure she can secure Mike's love and loyalty 'till the end, she needs to marry him first and do it quickly before she goes in hiding.

In short...

She will marry Mike!

Then disappeared after a few months.

And she will honor her end of the bargain with Allison and that is to serve Greg until he passed away.

After Greg's passing, she will resurface again in Mike's life and they can continue living together as husband and wife in Davao City.

She will start a new life as the wife of the man she loves.

As for the plan on how to disappear without shocking her family and husband — well— that is something that needs thorough planning, until now, she still has no idea how to do it.

She wants a mysterious disappearance... just like what happened to her twin sister Catherine, everyone embraces her twin's return into their lives with open arms. John and her family were relieved and feeling grateful for Catherine's return, the rest doesn't matter anymore.

Hmm...she still needs more days to do brainstorming and plan everything well.

All she wanted right now is to honor Allison's demands, get over it fast, and just continue living her life in freedom.

Now that she already had a plan in place, she can breathe easier and have plenty of time to execute everything nicely according to plan.

She will start listing all the possible ways she can disappear without a trace. If she can do that then half of her problem is already solved.

Now, the hardest part is the night when she's afraid to sleep — fearing that Brenda will appear in her dreams and that dead woman will murder her in her sleep.

She was thinking of buying sleeping pills, the kind of pills that if she will take one tablet before bedtime, she will sleep all night long and will only wake up in the morning, this way she can have a deep sleep without getting disturbed by her nightmares.

Waking up in the middle of the night and frightened at her wit's end, is a new normal to her after killing Brenda.

If she can't get enough sleep every night then she will eventually get sick and then die one day. Such a tragic ending to her supposed to be a beautiful future with Mike.

She can't allow the death of that bitch Brenda taking away her bright future.

She must fight for her bright future!

If she will suffer in the eternal pit of hell after she died because of her crimes here on earth then so be it, she doesn't mind, as long she will live a happy and glorious life here on earth together with the man she loves — then it's gonna be worth it.

The rest doesn't matter to her anymore.
