Chapter 138 - Where Is She?

The next day.

Caroline woke up early.

She cleaned the entire house, she will cook dishes just in case her family comes home hungry.

She misses her daughter so much! If she sees her daughter again, maybe, her heavy load inside will lighten a bit.

She finished cooking dishes and prepared them on the dining table.

Her phone starts ringing.

It's Mike calling...

She answered her phone and tried to produce an excited voice. "Hello...I miss you!" she said.

"Sweetie...I miss you more!" Mike's replied lovingly. "I'm done here. I'm coming back tomorrow. We can now proceed in planning for our mega project," he said excitedly.

"Okay, I'll wait for you here," she smiled and sighed.

"Huh? Is that you sighing, sweetie? Are you sighing? What's wrong?" he asked worriedly.

"Nothing. I'm just feeling bored here alone in my house," she explained.

"Ah, I see...your family has not returned yet?" he asked.

"They will be here at any moment from now. I'm waiting for their arrival," she said biting her lips. At the back of her mind, she was already thinking how painful it would be if she and Mike parted their ways. Just when she finally meets someone wonderful as him, destiny is trying to tear them apart from each other.

"That's good, you won't feel alone anymore," he said. "Eat your lunch sweetie, I will call you later, bye for now. I love you..." he said.

"Bye...I love you too," she replied and ended the call.

She placed her phone in the center table and power on the television. She watched a variety show to pass her time.

Thirty minutes later.

A vehicle arrived and parked in front of the house.

Caroline exited the house and smiled broadly after seeing her family coming out of the vehicle one by one.

She opened the gate wide and rushed to see her daughter Cathy and took her in her arms. "Welcome home, guys! Did you enjoy your vacation in Hacienda Catherine?"

"You should have come with us, Caroline. You miss the fun!" Thelma said.

"Yes, the breathtaking scenery there is awesome, sister!" Lily exclaimed.

"We're having fun swimming in the pool and strolling in the garden," Jacob gushes.

"That's fantastic! Come inside now, I cooked a few dishes just in case you're getting hungry from traveling," Caroline said and nods at Ramon, the driver of the vehicle. "You may come inside, Ramon," she invited him.

"Ah, no thanks, I just drop them here. I will go back now to the Infinity Jade Tower. Bye guys!" Ramon said and slid into the driver's seat and started the engine.

"Bye Uncle Ramon!" Lily and Jacob responded in unison and waved at the moving vehicle.

Ramon waved back and drives the car heading towards the entrance of the subdivision.

They all entered the house.

"Guys, I prepared some dishes on the dining table. I will just go upstairs and changed baby Cathy's diaper," Caroline said and climbs the stairs.

Thelma was following her daughter from behind going to her room.

Caroline entered her bedroom and placed baby Cathy in the bed. She showered her daughter's face with kisses. "Hmm...mwuahha...I love you, baby...how's your vacation? Did you miss, Mama?"

Baby Cathys smiled and tugged at her mother's hair..."Mama...Mama...Mama..."

"Let me check your diaper..."

Caroline changed the diaper with a new one and then sat on the bed holding her daughter in her lap. She reached for the remote control, power on the television and played her daughter's favorite nursery rhymes.

She was able to face her family with a smiling face earlier. She just hopes she can continue with her calm facade. It's hard pretending that she's still the same person that she used to be. At the age of 23 years old, she was already a murderer, the kind of fate that she never expected will happen to her.

If only she can turn back time, maybe, it's wise that she just let Brenda kill her.

She won't be suffering hard in silence.

Damn! No matter how hard she tried, what transpired in that warehouse kept coming back to her mind. She was haunted by Brenda's death.

Her guilt and conscience are eating her inside.

Aargh! She wants to forget what she had done and go back to her life before that horrible thing happened.

But how to forget?

How to erase everything from her mind.

It looks like she can no longer avoid her fate.

If she will surrender to the cops, she will go to jail for sure! How many years she will serve in jail?

She immediately picked up her tablet, power it on and browse online the maximum years for a jail sentence for murder in the Philippines.

She smiled a little bit upon discovering that she can't go to jail if she killed someone by self- defense. The only problem is that she had to find a credible witness to strengthen her case. She only has Allison, Owen, and that lesbian girl who already died. If she can get Allison and Owen to testify on her defense, then she doesn't have to spend time in jail.

She picked up her phone and placed a call for Allison, the woman answered right away.

"Hello, Allison..."

"What's up, Caroline?" Allison asked.

"I found out online that I can't be put on trial or sentenced to years in prison if I killed someone due to self-defense! I want you and Owen to be my witness that Brenda abducted me and has the intention to kill me, that's why I accidentally killed her because I was protecting myself," she revealed excitedly.

Allison was silent for a while at the other end.

"Hello...Allison...are you still there?" Caroline asked after there's only silence at the other end of the line.

Allison coughed a little. "I'm still here. And what about my brother, Greg? Are you planning to drop our deal? Are you planning to ditch your obligation to my brother?"

Caroline shut her eyes. Dang!

She has entirely forgotten about Greg. She promised to Allison that she will serve Greg in exchange for her silence about the murder.

"Why are you not answering, Caroline? If you want my help, then you have to serve your end of the bargain first. Show me that you know how to repay gratitude and I will do the same. You have to remember that I didn't hesitate to kill one of my minions to save your life. Don't be ungrateful dear," Allison reminded her in a hard cold voice.

Caroline massage her temple, sighing.

Allison won't willingly cooperate with her, she won't help her unless she will serve Greg first.

The truth is... she doesn't want to serve his ex-boyfriend!

What's she's going to do now?

She released a deep sigh.

"Let's see each other again if you have free time so that we can talk about these things in private. I thought we already covered this issue before. Caroline you just give me a headache today. Bye!" said Allison in a grumpy voice.

The line was cut.

Caroline sighed heavily. The least she can do is making Allison angry and upset, she knows that Allison is mentally unstable. That woman can turn the table against her anytime.

Anyways, she still has one month to find a suitable solution that would fit her current condition.

So far, she only has 3 options to choose from.

The first option is to break up with Mike for good so that she can serve Greg.

The second option is to make herself disappear and returned later to her family after Greg died.

And the third option is to surrender to the police and tell them everything that happened before and after she found herself inside the warehouse.

What is the best option for her?

She's getting confused now.

Oh God, she was having a painful headache all of a sudden.

She shut her eyes and cried silently, after a while, the tears start falling from her eyes. She buried her face on her pillow.

After a few minutes of crying her heart out, she put her daughter in the crib and went to the bedroom to wash her face. Her mother might come into her room any moment from now. She doesn't want her mother to know that she's crying.

She must do her best to hide her problem so that her family won't know about it unless she's willing to face the law and surrender.

But right now, a big part of her refused to acknowledge the fact that her life may never be the same after she killed someone.

If she doesn't want to surrender to the police, she will have to serve Greg and then hopefully Allison would keep her mouth shut and not tell anyone about the murder.

But how can she make sure that Allison would keep her end of the bargain?

Would Allison destroy all the evidence and set her free after Greg died?

Damn, it's getting tiring thinking of everything, she kept thinking of the same thing over and over again.

Her phone rings...

She reached for her phone to check the text message, it was from an unknown number.

The message only contains a short sentence...

'Where is she!?'

Caroline brows knitted together. Maybe it's just a wrong number.

She ignored the message and placed her phone back in the bedside table.

But her phone rings again...again...and again...four times in a row!

She got four new messages and she opened them one by one.

The four messages contain the same words as the first one...

'Where is she!?'

'Where is she!?'

'Where is she!?'

'Where is she!?'

Crap! They all from the same number!

Caroline released a deep sigh and quickly typed a message asking who is the sender.

But the unknown sender didn't reply.

She immediately blocked the number. Who is that person sending her prank messages?

And who is this person that the prank sender was asking from her?

C-could it be that the sender was Brenda's accomplice? That...that...woman who entered her house and put medicine on her mouth to put her to sleep?

Oh, God!

Crap!

Another problem!
