CH 156

Name:No Moral Author:
“Things will work out? You’re going to get a divorce, ultimately,” Sehun pointed out.

“Yes, I will go through with that,” Ikyung readily agreed.

“Will you be the only one to escape that family? That would make the story much simpler.”

“No, I’m taking my kids and a modest alimony.”

“I have never seen any wealthy chaebol family willingly giving the leaving party rights to custody. You’ll end up fighting in court.”

She replied adamantly, “I will if I must.”

“Then, there’s even less reason for Doguk to accept Yoonshin Do. No partner lawyer will agree to it.”

“But if it’s Attorney Song…”

“Attorney Song is a good person; I admit that. However, she’s also next in line to be the executive director of a big law firm. What if she doesn’t help? Where is that hopeless optimistic naivety coming from that makes you think that your only plan will work? You should have thought of a backup plan and a third alternate, just in case. How are you going to win against your husband when you’re so complacent?”

“It’s not that I don’t know. I simply wanted to find a shelter for Yoonshin to stay under before I go through with the lawsuit, and no matter how hard I thought, the only answer was Doguk. I’m not going to sign the divorce papers just like that. I need to protect my children!” Ikyung raised her voice, getting overly excited.

Just then, the door opened, and Mihee—who had left for a phone call—stood in the door frame. From the fact that she had barged in without knocking to her dumbstruck look, all pointed to the fact that Mihee had overheard their conversation.

Realizing his mistake, Sehun looked up at Mihee, who briskly walked over and sat next to him. She said to Ikyung, sitting across from her, in a respectful but reproachful tone, “Director Do, what do you mean by all of this? A lawsuit? Are you saying that you’ll publicly make your nationally well-known husband a guilty spouse? Plus, in the middle of his battle for succession? Despite this all, did you deceive us and send your brother to our firm?”

Thoroughly shocked, Ikyung looked to Sehun for help. Sehun wanted to keep the circumstances around Yoonshin under wraps, if possible, because he knew how Mihee and the firm would react. Sehun was willfully neglecting this fact; however, the sister sent him an SOS signal first, so he couldn’t remain as a bystander. His brow furrowed, and he answered as calmly as possible, “So, about Yoonshin Do…”

“Yes, Sehun, did I hear this right?” Mihee urged immediately after Sehun’s remark as she stared daggers at Sehun. Her cheeks were red, showing that she was trying to cool her agitation.

Witnessing her state, he clicked his tongue and said in a low voice, “You had thought he was a pot of gold… But he was a ticking time bomb.”

A horrendous silence was shared between the three, each lost in their own thoughts.

Act 18

It was late.

The two lawyers returned to the firm without exchanging a single word, and as if they had promised in advance, they both headed to Attorney Song’s office. The moment they stepped inside, Mihee shut the blinds and slammed her hands on her desk in fury. Her handprints were imprinted into her desk mat.

Sehun indifferently sat at the couch with his legs crossed. Watching his leisurely attitude, Mihee couldn’t help but scoff. “You knew all of this, didn’t you, Sehun? I could tell by your reaction.”

Sehun didn’t think he needed to lie about it. “I just happened to.”
