He had replied so casually that Mihee yelled back, “And you hid that from me too? Since when? Is that why you didn’t agree to Director Do’s request?”

“I didn’t know the details when I refused that matter. I learned about this recently.”

“Oh my God. To think that their marital problems weren’t a mere rumor. Damn it, no wonder it bothered me when I heard that Director Yoo himself said that he couldn’t handle his wife. I was just played by Director Do without knowing anything. It was all my fault.” Mihee gnawed on her lips, then she went over to the couch and sat across from Sehun. No hint of calmness remained in her tone anymore. “Attorney Kang. We can’t just let this be. This is a law firm—a place where we deal with the law. Director Do is getting a divorce? This isn’t your average divorce proceeding between your typical upper-class couple. Those two had always flaunted how well they got along in front of the entire country. If they get into a lawsuit, the whole country will get loud. There will be blows in the courtroom, criticisms in the media—and if we keep Director Do’s brother in this situation?”

“We would either take her divorce matter or, in the least, we’ll look like we’re turning our back against Soohan,” Sehun answered.

She glared at him, agreeing with his answer, then said more conclusively, “In the worst case, it won’t end with Soohan simply turning their backs on us. All the big and small subsidiaries and affiliated corporations will cut off their flow of work to us. This is bound to happen. Director Yoo of Soohan Holdings… We both know very well that once he doesn’t like someone, he will pettily and ruthlessly trample on them to the ends of hell.”

“Thanks for the kind reminder.”

“Moreover, Ikyung doesn’t have anyone else to depend on but her brother. We will be the target. I don’t even want to imagine how much Director Yoo will harass us whenever he gets a sting from other people.”

Sehun didn’t reply; he had known that Mihee would react this way. Everything she mentioned sounded plausible. Normally, one might doubt that anyone would do such a thing, but some people would, and Director Do’s husband was very much the perfect fit for that group of petty people.

Even so, instead of agreeing right away, Sehun leaned back, allowing the backrest to envelop his body. He didn’t hide his exhaustion and rubbed his forehead.

To be honest, after hearing the situation directly from Director Ikyung Do, his head felt clearer. He liked this feeling—it felt like a ray of light piercing through the darkness and fog clearing up. The situation grew more complicated, but he was lucid.

“Hey, Sehun, say something,” Mihee impatiently urged.

“Weren’t you the one who welcomed him with open arms? Why so anxious now?” Sehun pointed out.

“Back then, I thought Attorney Do would continue being the brother-in-law to Soohan.”

“Don’t you remember how you used Professor Do against me while trying to convince me?”

Mihee was convinced that Sehun knew the answer she was asking for, but seeing him talking back, she couldn’t contain her agitation and yelled, “Sehun Kang, Doguk is practically my life. Did you forget how I grew our firm? I did it while tactfully watching for my father’s reactions, catering to the other partners, and while tolerating your temper! I came this far with a steely heart. I’m this close to getting the executive director position, but this issue is just too big.”

“Oh, right. You’ve worked hard. Congrats in advance.”

“Sehun Kang!”

“So what?”

“Let’s kick Attorney Do out.”

Sehun had expected everything up to this point. This was why he didn’t want to obtain a weakness. Doguk was Mihee’s weakness. Sehun seemed in deep contemplation yet didn’t give her a firm answer, so even the patient Mihee started to complain.
