Chapter 272: A Choice

“Your majesty.”

The person who opened the door and came in was Madam Sessly. Once inside, she became shocked at the tipped-over bottle of alcohol that was on the desk.

“What’s all this? You don’t even drink usually.”

Igor smirked.

“Good timing, madam. Would you like to join me in drinking?”

“If you were going to do this, why haven’t you called for the grand chamberlain? I had come here in a hurry because he was worried about you.”

“I can’t let Basil drink with me. Because I know that if he were to drink, he’d bawl his eyes out and I’d need to comfort him.”

Madam Sessly burst out in laughter.

“You’re right. The grand chamberlain was very close with the queen after all.”

Madam Sessly sat in front of Igor. She then let out a long sigh.

“Of course, I’m the same as well. Which was why… I was quite angry.”

Yesterday, the queen gave word to Madam Sessly out of nowhere suddenly. It was Rihannan announcing that she will leave Chrichton immediately starting tomorrow. But what was even more confusing to her was what Rihannan said afterward.

“In the first place, the marriage was a contractual marriage that would only last 1 year. It’s just that the end of that contract had come early. I thought I should at least tell you the truth about this, Madam Sessly. I’m really sorry.”

Madam Sessly gave a blank look for a moment to Rihannan, before her expression became stiff. Soon, a formal and cold smile formed around Madam Sessly’s face.

“Seeing as how you are willing to inform me about the contract before the day you leave, it seems that you were dutifully fulfilling the contract as you said. I understand. I will not see you off when you leave. I hope your travel tomorrow will go safely.”

And that was it for the farewells. Just as Madam Sessly said, she didn’t even see the queen out as she left the palace.

“Because of my old age, I’ve become so stubborn that I didn’t even see the queen at all today. Even though I knew that this would be the last time.”

“It was not Rihannan’s fault. I had put in the clause in the marriage contract that she cannot give away any information about the contractual marriage. She wasn’t able to tell you anything about it even when she wanted to.”

“What I am angry about is that about that!”

Madam Sessly snatched the drinking glass on the table and poured alcohol heavily into it. She then gulped it down in one shot. She yelled out loudly after slamming the glass down onto the table.

“I’m not angry that she had not told me about that. I understand that it was a circ*mstance she had no control over after all. However, couldn’t she have at least told me about it just once during those whole ten days between the two periods? She could have at least told me that she had made up the decision already to go back to Chrichton. Why did she decide to tell me on the day before she left? Did I really matter that little to her?”

A tear welled up in Madam Sessly’s eyes until she just started bawling out loud. Igor put his fingers on his temples and groaned slightly. He’s the one who should be crying the most, yet she’s crying heavily instead. If this was what was going to happen, he should have let Basil in instead. If Basil cried, he could at least kick him out and tell him to cry somewhere else.

“Madam Sessly, please stop the…”

“This was all because of you, your majesty!”

Madam Sessly shot up like an arrow, then attacked Igor with criticism.

“It’s because your majesty just let the queen leave Chrichton so easily. Why have you done that?”

“All I’ve done was give her an opportunity to make a choice.”

“An opportunity to make a choice?”
