Chapter 243: Tears of Anguish

“I-Igor!”

“You should be praying over and over that Rihannan is still alive. Because if she isn’t, then I shall have you all ripped to pieces!” Igor quietly whispered towards the queen mother, who was gasping for air.

In the end, the queen mother couldn’t keep her body straight up and collapsed, sitting on the floor. Igor didn’t show any hesitation upon seeing that, just continuing his path towards the jail.

It has been such a long time that he was stuck lying on the hospital bed that it was difficult to even move his legs properly. His whole body felt as if it was creaking, and every step he took made him sweat rain down his forehead. He didn’t even travel far before the whole front of his face was drenched in sweat.

Igor just wished that he was not too late. There was only one thing he wished. For Rihannan to not drink the poison and to wait for him. If not, then to be afraid of death so much that she hesitated. If she had done so, then he was willing to immediately get on his knees and beg for forgiveness for all the things he has done. For making her lose her child due to the misunderstandings he caused, as well as why she was jailed like this.

However when he arrived at the jail cell, what he saw was Basil with tears in his eyes holding onto a woman’s corpse that was getting colder.

Just as he arrived at the door that was locked with padlocks, the painful memories he had of the past washed over him like a wave before he snapped back into reality. Igor gritted his teeth and slammed on the door with all his strength with his shoulder.

Slam!

The inside of the room was dark with no light source to speak of. There was no sound to be heard of as well. His body shivered unconsciously, as he felt that this current situation was exactly the same as he had experienced in the past.

In the past, the jail cell he arrived at was dark and quiet. The only thing there was despair and death slathered thick onto the walls. Basil stepped out of the room for Igor without saying another word. After Basil left the cell, only the two of them remained.

She was lying on the floor on the side of the cell. Around her were numerous splashes of blood as if she had all of her blood spilled.

As he stepped closer, he saw that her white clothes and silver hair was drenched in blood as well. Next to he was a glass bottle that was clearly emptied. Igor realized that in Rihannan’s last moments, she writhed in pain and anguish all the way to the end. He saw that her fingernails were broken and bloodied, as if she had been scratching at the walls.

“Rihannan…”

He called for her name, but no reply came back. He suddenly realized that until then, he had never called out her name for real. Repeating the call of her name fruitlessly multiple times, he then went down onto his knees. He cried out in anguish while bent over, not able to bring himself to even see the face of the woman who had died. His screams were filled with anguish, like a beast.

The woman that he cherished the most and loved more than anyone else in the world had died in the most miserable way possible at the lowest place in the palace. And all of that was completely due to his own fault.

“Rihannan…”

He felt himself call for the name again, not in the past but in the current moment in time. His eyes darted around in the dark even though it didn’t adjust yet, but as no reply came back to him even after he called for her name, Igor slowly lost confidence in himself.

Perhaps he was too late this time as well.

Did he repeat his mistake that he had made in this life as well? Was bringing her back to life again just a foolish thing, only ending up with making her face the same anguish again…?

Rustle…

In that moment, he heard something rustle behind him.

Igor hurriedly turned around his body. From that direction a bright candle was burning. On one side there was a large number of wood stocked up, and he saw that Rihannan was sitting down leaning onto the wall.

“…….”

Even though Igor was looking at Rihannan with his own eyes, he still couldn’t believe himself. He imagined so much of her just lying in this room lifelessly over and over again that it felt like he was seeing a hallucination, seeing her alive and sitting down like this.

“Rihannan?”

As he stepped towards her in a daze, he saw that her hands had nicks and small cuts. Rihannan saw that he was looking at her fingers, and shrinked away her shoulders.

“…I was just trying to rip this down.”

He then finally noticed what was happening in that corner. Just as she claimed, the corner of the hut that was built out of wood was ripped away slightly to make an opening.

“I thought that I would be able to sneak out since the rotten wood over this side looked weak enough for me to tear it down…”

“That man said… That he gave you poison, and…”

Hearing his words, Rihannan went ‘Ah’, as if she remembered something and pulled out a glass bottle from her clothing.

“I did take it, but I didn’t drink it. Well, at first I was actually going to drink it, but…” Rihannan let out a light sigh. “Before I drank it, I suddenly remembered the words you spoke to me.”

“What do you…”

“When you told me to believe in you this time.”
