Chapter 214: Murder the Queen

A couple of charming smiles later, the old and foolish viscount immediately fell for Leticia. The noble wife witnessed them reach climax together. She was wholly enraged and threw mouthful words at Leticia.

“Even though I was generous to a plebeian like you! I let a snake into my own household!”

The noblewoman never once sent sneering gaze at her husband and wondered why he committed sin. She was old and ugly, a wrinkled woman and he desired a youthful face. Leticia gave him that. The noblewoman used all the power she could muster to kick her out of the mansion. It failed. Leticia killed her. It was reasonable cause for the sin of insulting her. Maybe because she had done it once, but committing the second crime was far easier than her first.

“I’m sure this was the queen’s planning,” Leticia cursed.

After all this time, no problem ever arose. No one dared threaten her, but everything changed, every little thing twisted after she met the queen.

“It’s the royal family. Their prints all over this,” the man confirmed. “Grand Chamberlain Basil personally involved himself in this affair.”

Raged, Leticia grit her teeth. Who was it who put her in this predicament? In this troubled life of hardship? It was that woman’s mother. Had that woman not stolen her father’s love, father and mother would have lived a happy ever after and consummated an official marriage. She would not be an illegitimate child. Yet, despite this, her own half-sister did not feel an ounce of empathy for her and the life she lived. Rather, she revealed the sins Leticia committed in the past.

“Please don’t worry. I want to help you out, viscountess.”

At his unexpected words, Leticia lifted her head. “You’ll help me?”

“I’ll help you out, viscountess. Revenge on the queen. Is that not what you want?”

“Why would you? What benefit does it bring you? And who are you?”

The man stood still, smiling simply at the red-haired beauty. “Shouldn’t you consider your own predicament before you ask me of my identity?”

“My predicament?” Leticia scoffed. “I’m well aware of it.”

“I’m thinking of leaving you here to rot if you aren’t going to be useful.”

Leticia’s lips parted, slightly.

“If you’re worried that I plan to kill you, you don’t need to worry. I’m not one for this crude method. But it you don’t wish to enact revenge, I’m thinking of simply letting you free. It’ll take less than a day before the soldiers arrive and throw you in the cold prison. They’re surrounding this whole place. You won’t be able to escape, not without help.”

Leticia realized the feeling of disharmony in her heart when she first met him. The man held a dark secret within him. Compared to her, he was a snake with fangs bearing deadly poison. That he uttered loudly that he would cast her aside if she did not prove useful to him was no empty threat. He kept her alive for so long to have his plans come to life, after all.

“Aren’t you telling me to commit murder?”

The man shook his head. “No, of course not. I’m advising you to make a decision and providing you a chance. Should you decide to enact revenge on the queen, we will help you out. We’ll give you a chance to enter the palace and stab the queen’s heart. However, should you decide not to, you can simply leave this place whenever you so desire.”

“Why would you make that suggestion…”

“The reason is not important. I’m merely giving you a suggestion. Whether you are willing to carry out your revenge, rot quietly in prison is up to you.”

Leticia’s red eyes shook heavily.

Studying her expression, the man said, “Now, I ask you again: what will you do?”

She was backed in a corner with nowhere else to run. It did not take long for her to realize that she was the only one whom she could rely on. To live and survive meant accepting his suggestion and commit murder.

“…Do you have a proper plan?” she asked through her gnashing teeth.

The man laughed, satisfied. “The queen will soon have her birthday banquet,” he replied, the topic unrelated to her question.

Leticia furrowed her eyebrows; the man rapped at the table.

“So you’ve agreed to enact the revenge, then we’ll begin our conversation about the plan now.”
