Chapter 210 - 210 Picking You Up From Work

210 Picking You Up From Work

“This case must be solved as soon as possible. Otherwise, the city will panic once news of it gets out. Then we’ll all be fired.” Wu Zheng stubbed out his cigarette and finished his lunch in a few bites. He sat in front of the computer again to review all the clues they had obtained so far.

Zou Sheng also finished his lunch hastily and went to Chengxi Village with Meng Heng. They would visit each house and collect DNA for testing.

This was a huge project. The two of them worked until it was time to knock off, then dragged their tired bodies back to the police station.

Next was the huge testing process. Shen Yin worked until late at night before she finished comparing all the samples. The results were barely satisfactory.

None of the villagers’ DNA matched the murderer’s DNA. Moreover, there was no information about the murderer in the database. This meant that the murderer was a first-time offender and had no criminal record.

By the time Shen Yin looked up in the laboratory, most of the lights in the police station had already been switched off.

She picked up her phone and was about to go home when she realized that she had a hundred missed calls from Lian Jing.

Her heart skipped a beat and she hurriedly called back. She only felt relieved when someone picked up the call.

“Just finished?”

Lian Jing exhaled a mouthful of smoke and rolled down the window to dispel the choking smoke in the car. His voice was low and hoarse.

“Yes, why did you call me so many times? Didn’t I tell you that I had to work overtime tonight?” Shen Yin knew that she was going to be busy until late that night, so she had sent him a message earlier so that he would not worry. She did not expect him to call so many times.

“I’m worried. Besides, haven’t you noticed, it’s already 12:30 in the morning?” Lian Jing opened the car door angrily and looked up at the only room which was still lit. A chill rose in his eyes.

“Ah? I’ll go home now!” Shen Yin hurriedly looked at the time and realized how late it was. She hurriedly packed her things and rushed downstairs.

The police station was a little eerie at night, but Shen Yin had never been afraid. She did not even bat an eyelid when she passed the autopsy room. She even carefully tried to recall if she had forgotten anything.

When she walked out of the police station and saw the only familiar car parked in the courtyard, and the man standing beside the car with a cold gaze, she suddenly realized that he had been waiting for her downstairs.

“When did you get here?” Shen Yin blinked at him and subconsciously tugged at his hand to see if he was cold.

“Just got here.”

Shen Yin did not believe it. He never smoked in her presence, but now she could smell the pungent smoke. Such a strong smell meant that he must have been smoking here for a long time.

“Why didn’t you wait for me at home?” Shen Yin lowered her head guiltily. When she felt his grip on her hand, she looked up at him again.

“If I didn’t come to pick you up, would you walk home?” Lian Jing held her hand and opened the door on the passenger side. He stuffed her into the car without any explanation before going around the front of the car and getting in.

Lian Jing shifted gears and steered with one hand. He turned on the heater in the car and said fiercely, “You’re not allowed to work so late next time. Otherwise, I’ll make sure you can’t get out of bed the next day.”

Shen Yin was stunned for a moment before she understood what he was saying. Her face turned red, and she involuntarily sat up a little straighter. She stammered, “Don’t talk nonsense. Who would use such a thing as a threat?”

“You want to try?” Lian Jing raised his eyebrows and looked at her.

If she wanted to try, he would be extremely happy to oblige.

“No!” Shen Yin quickly shook her head and refused. After hurriedly fastening her seatbelt, she sat up straight and stared out of the car window, refusing to give him another look.

Lian Jing snorted and drove her back to the Lian residence.

As soon as she entered, Shen Yin smelled the fragrance of food, and her stomach instantly awoke.

The butler was relieved to see them come back together. He instructed someone to bring the food to the dining table and tactfully returned to his room to sleep.

Shen Yin walked into the dining room in surprise. She was so busy that she had forgotten to eat dinner. She did not think much of it at first, but now that she saw so many delicious dishes, she instantly felt hungry. Her eyes lit up and she transformed into a hungry wolf that was about to pounce on the food.

However, a pair of big hands mercilessly slapped the back of her hand. Shen Yin looked up unhappily and saw Lian Jing take off his coat and hang it up. When he saw her aggrieved expression, he chuckled. “Wash your hands first. What did you touch in the laboratory just now?”

Shen Yin rolled her eyes and obediently went to the washroom to wash her hands. Only then did she sit at the dining table again, wishing she could swallow the entire table.

“Use chopsticks.” Lian Jing was afraid that she would be so hungry that she would use her hands. He quickly stuffed the chopsticks into her hands and scooped a bowl of soup for her. “Drink some hot soup to warm your stomach first.”
