“You’re quite knowledgeable about health matters” Shen Yin muttered softly. However, she knew that he was right, so she obediently drank the bowl of hot soup in one gulp.

“How did you take care of yourself all these years?” Lian Jing frowned disdainfully. He carefully peeled a prawn and tossed it into her bowl.

Shen Yin smiled sheepishly. “Actually, Nian Nian took care of me. I’m usually busy with work and often forget to eat. If it not for Nian Nian, I would have developed gastric problems long ago.”

Lian Jing stopped peeling the prawns for her and asked casually, “Why did you give birth to Nian Nian as a single mother? You might have had a better life without him.”

Shen Yin’s lowered eyes were filled with loneliness. She sighed and said with a bitter smile, “I couldn’t bear to give him up. Besides, I didn’t want to marry anyone else then. Nian Nian might be the only child I ever had.”

She could see the guilt in Lian Jing’s eyes and shook her head in amusement. “This has nothing to do with you. You don’t have to feel sorry for me. Besides, Nian Nian is really sensible. If not for Nian Nian, I would probably have suffered a breakdown.”

“I’m very glad that the woman that night was you.” Lian Jing looked up at her seriously, his dark eyes filled with intoxicating affection.

Shen Yin’s heart pounded as she looked at him. After a while, she lowered her head in a daze and mechanically ate the peeled prawn in her bowl. She nodded and said, “I’m also glad that it was you that day.”

If not for that coincidence that night, she might have walked into Yun Shan’s trap and been branded with shame for the rest of her life. She would not have a cute child like Nian Nian.

It was a series of coincidences, but it had been written in their stars.

By the time they finished dinner, it was already 1 am.

As usual, Lian Jing followed Shen Yin into the room and pushed her against the wall. He pulled her hand and placed it on his tie. His devilish smile was like a demon in the dark night, seducing her soul.

“Help me.”

“Stop fooling around.” Shen Yin pushed him away. After a busy night, she only wanted to lie down and sleep. She was so tired that she did not want to move at all.

Lian Jing’s heart ached when he saw the dark rings under her eyes. He pulled her into his arms, leaned close to her ear and smiled evilly. “Then let me help you.”

Before Shen Yin could react, Lian Jing had already taken off her jacket. His nimble fingers reached for her shirt buttons. Under her shocked gaze, he easily undid the buttons at her chest.

“Lian Jing! I’m really tired!” Shen Yin clutched her shirt and stared at him with teary eyes, like a frightened deer.

“Yes, I know.” Lian Jing removed her hand and continued to help her take off her clothes. He was so reverent, it was as if he was unwrapping an antique porcelain. He did not look like he was undressing a woman at all.

Shen Yin felt that if this continued, the situation might easily go awry. While his attention was on the buttons, she hurriedly pulled open the bathroom door. Before he could react, she rushed into the bathroom and closed and locked the door in one motion.

After that, she leaned against the bathroom door, panting as she eavesdropped on the noise outside.

Lian Jing chuckled and could not help knocking on the bathroom door. He stared at her silhouette through the glass door with a smile. “Why are you so nervous?”

“Lian Jing, I’m going to take a shower. Stay away from the bathroom!” Shen Yin shouted angrily.

She turned on the tap and filled the bathtub with hot water. She took off her clothes and got in. Her entire body was soaked in the warm water and she felt all her pores open up.

Only then did her tense body relax. She enjoyed it so much that she almost fell asleep in the bathtub.

After soaking for some time, someone knocked on the bathroom door.

Shen Yin knew who it was. She turned over lazily and mumbled, “What’s the matter?”

“I left your pajamas at the door. Put them on and come out. Don’t wait for me to go in and pick you up.” Lian Jing poured another cup of warm milk and placed it on the bedside table so that she could sleep more comfortably after drinking it.

Shen Yin did not know if she was dazed from sleep, but she suddenly leaned against the bathtub and smiled foolishly. When she was done laughing, she felt a little silly. Her fingers drew circles on the edge of the bathtub and she could not help but mutter, “You’re quite virtuous.”

The water in the bathtub was already cooling. If she continued soaking in it, she would catch a cold.

She did not dawdle any longer but got out of the bathtub with a splash. After drying herself, she quietly turned the lock and opened the door a crack. When she saw that Lian Jing was not waiting for her outside the door, she heaved a sigh of relief. She reached out and quickly pulled her pajamas in. After dressing, she walked out of the bathroom to look for Lian Jing.

The man had already showered in another bathroom. At that moment, he was lying on the bed in his pajamas and reading a book. Hearing her movements, Lian Jing raised his hand and pointed at the bedside table. “Drink that, then hurry up and go to bed.”

“You didn’t poison me, did you?” Shen Yin joked on purpose. She picked up the cup of warm milk and finished it. Then, she crawled into bed and snuggled into his arms with a smile. “Good night. See you tomorrow.”
