Chapter 70: The Humanoid Demons

Blake wanted to run back as fast as possible to Robus’ location before telling the gorilla that they should retreat first in the face of the unknown danger, just like how Blake usually observes the very strong-looking demonic beasts for a while before deciding to fight them.

But the circumstances this time prevented him from doing so.

Blake had purposely circled around the five humanoid demons so that they wouldn’t notice him observing their movements closely.

However, because of that, the distance between him and Robus was actually further compared to the distance between the five demons and Robus.

The only way Blake would be able to warn Robus to run away from the five humanoid demons was for Blake to move faster.

And if he didn’t want to get noticed by the humanoid demons, Blake would also need to mind his steps and make sure that he didn’t make too much noise.

Which was contrary to each other since running would produce a lot of noise that would be noticed by the humanoid demons.

.....

Blake lacked options, but doing nothing would be one of the worst options he could choose.

So with the risk of getting his second friend in the demon realm killed mercilessly by 5 unknown demons, Blake decided that he had to do something and quickly made a decision.

Before doing anything, Blake took several deep breaths while activating the dark earth armor and covering his whole body with black brownish rocks.

Facing off against the five unknown demons that he was unfamiliar with was quite nerve-wracking, and several worst possibilities came up to his mind when he decided to do what he was about to do.

And taking deep breaths helped him slightly to calm himself down and regained his focus.

Taking a step out of his hiding place, Blake purposely took a small step out of the back of the tree trunk so that it wouldn’t take him more than half a second to get back to its cover.

Then with his face facing directly to the group of five humanoid demons, Blake opened up his mouth.

“Hey!”

Upon hearing Blake’s loud shout that was only inaudible to creatures who didn’t have ears, the five demons quickly turned their bodies toward the source of the sound.

Blake didn’t know whether his decision to call out to them was the correct one.

However, considering that the demons were capable of speaking, and he even heard one of them say something to instruct the other demons, it means that the five demons in front of him were capable of communicating with languages, different from the demonic beasts.

Blake hoped that even if they couldn’t speak as properly as he and Vera, they would at least have the level of intelligence to be able to use their mouths first before resorting to violence.

This was Blake’s second time saying something to unknown demons without knowing anything about them. With the first being with Vera when he accidentally said his thoughts out loud.

Blake didn’t know how his second time doing the same thing would turn out, but he didn’t expect anything good like when he met Vera to happen.

After the five demons laid their eyes on Blake who suddenly appeared out of nowhere, they stayed silent and just stared at Blake without moving or even saying anything.

Blake didn’t know what they were doing, just staring at him.

It was actually quite traumatizing for him to be stared at by the humanoid demons since their appearance, although not 100% identical, still resemble humans.

Being stared at by many individuals at once, especially when their eyes looked at him as if he didn’t matter, was something that Blake wasn’t unfamiliar with.

It reminded him of unpleasant memories that he had back when he was just still a powerless human that couldn’t do anything when a group of people decided to come and give him a piece of their mind.

Albeit their minds were far worse than his.

But Blake was able to quickly shake off those feelings that suddenly struck him as the reality in this place where he got strength was very real.

And thinking back about his powerless self was actually harder considering what he had been doing the past several weeks, fighting and defeating every enemy he met and eating their souls.

His weak past self just seemed like a really bad dream that he would never have again in his entire life.

So when the five demons just stared at him, Blake ignored the feelings that he would have had in the past and just took it as a good sign that they didn’t actually attack him the second they noticed him and thought that the humanoid demons did have a higher level of intelligence compared to the demonic beasts.

Blake was about to do a follow-up and try to talk to them when suddenly one of the demons, the one with brown skin and had an extra layer of bones on his skull said something.

“Nhot oghne ofh us.”

The moment those words left the brown demon’s mouth, all the blank stares from all the demons suddenly changed as bloodlust filled their eyes.

Blake knew all too well about those eyes as those eyes were the exact same eyes that the demonic beasts had when they decided to fight him and Robus.

So without wasting any more of his words, Blake put strength on his feet and jumped behind the tree trunk that he used a few seconds ago to hide from the five humanoid demons.

And his decision to trust his instinct and dodge turned out to be the correct one as the second he landed on the back of the tree trunk, the demon with the skeletal wings spread its wings sideways and jumped to the front.

Blake didn’t know what’s the use of a wing that didn’t have any membrane or surface area to help the owner fly, but when he saw the demon with the skeletal wing literally move 20 meters away in just a second and arrived at the place where he was standing one and a half second ago, Blake nodded in understanding as he realized something.

‘My body felt much lighter when I filled my wings with nether. I guess that demon was doing the same thing with its skeletal wings...’

But Blake wasn’t able to think more about the wings yet and whether he could mimic the way the demon with the skeletal wings used its wings to increase his own mobility as the next barrage from the five demons came.

As if they had been together for quite some time and they had good teamwork with each other, the moment the demon with the skeletal wings charged forward, the other demons in the back also made their move.

Blake also noticed the demon with the long claw started running forward and the one with the insect wings and a gaping hole in its mouth also made its move.

But Blake’s main focus wasn’t placed on them, instead, he observed closely the two demons at the back who didn’t move an inch from their current position.

The demon with brown skin and green skin moved their fingers fast in front of their bodies, and Blake was more than familiar with those gestures as the two demons were currently drawing demonic runes to cast their spells.
