CH 38

After a night of tossing and turning, Shen Tiantian woke up briefly and then fell asleep again. Shan Yue took a trip to the hot spring resort and brought back the clothes for Shan Yi and Shen Tiantian to wash. At the break of dawn, she hurried back to the city hospital for work.

The Shan family consisted of nearly a dozen members, and apart from Shan Yue, all of them were involved in studying business and finance, working in the family-owned company after graduation.

Despite the vastness of the Shan family, Shan Yue had no interest in the corporate world. When she resolutely chose to pursue a medical career after graduating from high school, she distinctly remembers her family being quite surprised by her decision.

Her grandfather had initially hoped that she would study management, and he was even a bit angry upon learning she chose to become a doctor. However, he understood that children have their own dreams and, after a few days, he calmed down and accepted her decision. She was grateful that her family was open-minded and didn’t create any unpleasant incidents due to her choice of study.

After seeing Shan Yue off, Shan Yi returned to the hospital room. She leaned down and kissed the familiar woman. Supporting herself with one hand on the bed, she waited for the IV drip to finish, preparing to take a short nap.

Shen Tiantian had a peaceful sleep without any dreams. When she woke up, she noticed Shan Yi still lying on the bed. Just by observing her, it was evident that she hadn’t slept comfortably; her brows were furrowed in apparent discomfort.

Shan Yi gently touched her hair, but she didn’t wake up. She wasn’t sure when she had fallen asleep.

As Shen Tiantian realized that Shan Yi had stayed by her side all night, a warm feeling washed over her heart. She decided to wake Shan Yi up and playfully pinched her nose.

Shan Yi wasn’t sleeping soundly, and Shen Tiantian roused her with a gentle pinch. Shan Yi’s tired eyes showed a few traces of bloodshot, and her voice sounded a bit hoarse from the early morning. “Are you awake? Are you hungry? I can go buy some breakfast.”

Shen Tiantian hurriedly shook her head, saying, “I’m not hungry yet. Why don’t you come up and sleep with me for a while?”

The hospital bed, measuring 90 centimeters wide, was quite spacious, providing enough room for two people to sleep on.

How could Shan Yi not understand Shen Tiantian’s intentions? She chuckled lightly and teased, “Aren’t you afraid that I might misbehave?”

Shen Tiantian pouted, thinking, “You wouldn’t dare to do anything.”

“It’s alright, come up here,” Shen Tiantian was no longer receiving the IV drip. She adjusted her position to make space on the bed and patted the spot invitingly, saying, “Take advantage of the warmth now.”

Upon hearing this, Shan Yi smiled wryly and said, “You better not move around. I’ll go out and buy breakfast.”

Seeing that Shan Yi was determined to leave, Shen Tiantian didn’t say anything, she could only nod in agreement.

Once Shan Yi left, Shen Tiantian’s hand under the blanket slowly moved towards her belly. It had become soft without her realizing, creating a comfortable environment for the baby.

Although the two mothers had been a bit excessive, causing harm to the baby, fortunately, the baby didn’t blame them. Shen Tiantian was in so much pain, and she imagined the baby inside her must also be feeling uncomfortable.

She took a deep breath, making a decision not to let the baby suffer anymore. Shen Tiantian silently promised herself, and the hand on her belly remained there until Shan Yi returned with breakfast.

“You had a little bleeding. The doctor said to rest well these days and eat nutritious food to make up for it,” Shan Yi said as she bought lean meat congee and nutritious chicken soup. She fed Shen Tiantian while continuing, “Also, you seem a bit weak, so you should reduce your workload appropriately, that’s why…”

“Hold on,” Shen Tiantian interrupted her, “CEO, are you implying that you want me to stop working?”

Shan Yi chuckled and asked in return, “You don’t want to work?”

Shen Tiantian shook her head, “Of course not, staying at home every day is so boring…”

Shan Yi looked at her with a serious expression, “So, do you want the baby, or do you want to work?”

There was no need to say it out loud; Shen Tiantian fell silent as she gently touched her belly. She suddenly remembered the pain from the early morning; at that time, she genuinely thought she might lose the baby. Even now, she could still feel that lingering sense of ache.

Shan Yi tested the temperature of the porridge and brought it to Shen Tiantian’s lips, much like feeding a child. After she took a few spoonfuls, Shan Yi rubbed her head gently and said, “I’m not telling you not to work. I just hope that you can work on the 18th floor, where I can see you.”

Shen Tiantian widened her eyes, surprised by Shan Yi’s plan. She had always been content in the marketing department and didn’t have ambitions like Liu Wanjun and Kang Jiaya. Besides, she had been a team leader for over a year. Moving to the 18th floor, she wasn’t sure if she could handle it. Moreover, the idea of having Shan Yi constantly watching her every move made her feel uneasy.

The thought of it made Shen Tiantian force a bitter smile, and she said, “Isn’t it unnecessary? I find the marketing department quite relaxing.”

“No,” Shan Yi was resolute, though she softened her tone as she continued to feed Shen Tiantian. “I can’t rest assured unless you’re close by.”

Mainly, Shen Tiantian was too absent-minded; Shan Yi didn’t want to experience that fear from the early morning again.

In a moment, Shen Tiantian’s heart softened, and she suddenly felt that staying on the same floor with Shan Yi wouldn’t be so bad, as long as she didn’t force her to resign, anything else would do.

“Okay, I’ll go to the 18th floor.”

“Good girl,” Shan Yi said as she rubbed her face affectionately and brought a spoonful of porridge to Shen Tiantian’s lips. “Have some more.”

Shen Tiantian blushed and attempted to take the bowl, saying, “I can do it myself.”

Shan Yi’s face turned serious, “No.”

Shen Tiantian couldn’t help but murmur in her heart, yet she found it sweet.

Shan Yi smiled and didn’t say anything, silently enjoying the sweet moment between them.

It took Shen Tiantian nearly twenty minutes to finish a large bowl of porridge, and she felt a bit full. She patted her belly, pursed her lips, and glanced at the soup offered to her, looking almost teary-eyed as she said, “I’m really full.”

Finally, Shan Yi stopped insisting when she saw that Shen Tiantian genuinely couldn’t eat anymore.

Due to their excessive indulgence, Shen Tiantian ended up lying in the hospital for two days. Shan Yi didn’t even let her play with her phone, and she was getting extremely bored.

On the third day, she couldn’t bear it any longer and asked, “When can I be discharged?!”

“Tomorrow, after a check-up, if everything is fine, you can be discharged,” Shan Yi replied.

Shen Tiantian asked pitifully, “Can’t it be today?”

Helplessly, Shan Yi looked at her and playfully pointed to her cheek, saying, “Give me a kiss, and I’ll go ask.”

Shen Tiantian pouted but reluctantly gave her a kiss.

“And here too,” Shan Yi pointed to her lips.

Shen Tiantian pouted, glaring at someone who was taking advantage of the situation.

Amused by her expression, Shan Yi said, “Alright, alright, I’ll go ask right away, okay?”

Shen Tiantian finally smiled, pleased with Shan Yi’s response.

With the doctor’s pardon, Shen Tiantian was discharged on the same day. After almost two hours of driving, they finally arrived home. Shen Tiantian had just stepped out of the car when she felt nauseous and vomited once, leaving her completely drained.

Shan Yi placed their belongings on the floor, checked the time, and went out to the balcony to make a call. Soon, she returned and carefully avoided putting pressure on Shen Tiantian’s waist. Nestling her face in her neck, Shan Yi asked, “Are you tired? Would you like to take a nap before eating? I’ve arranged for the food to be delivered.”

“Four Seasons Hall?” Shen Tiantian opened her eyes and unconsciously licked her lips. It had been quite a while since she had Four Seasons Hall. Upon hearing that Shan Yi had already ordered takeout, she couldn’t help but associate it with Shan Yi being the owner of the restaurant.

Shan Yi smiled and said, “For now, I only run that restaurant.”

“But aren’t there many branches in City A?” Shen Tiantian looked puzzled.

Shan Yi raised an eyebrow in surprise, “You often eat at Four Seasons Hall?”

Blushing, Shen Tiantian closed her eyes and admitted, “Yes, it’s cheap and delicious.”

“Is it tastier than what I cook?” Shan Yi teased.

Shen Tiantian’s survival instinct kicked in, “No, CEO’s cooking is better.”

“Didn’t we agree to call me ‘Yi Yi’ in private?” Shan Yi pinched her nose, feeling a bit helpless, “You’ve called me the wrong name so many times.”

Shen Tiantian bit her lip, looking a bit aggrieved, “I got used to it, and ‘CEO’ sounds more stylish~”

Shan Yi burst into laughter. Now she’s talking about being stylish.

“Alright, as long as you’re happy.”

“CEO…”

“Yeah?”

“I like you, really really like you.”

Shen Tiantian giggled and said nothing more, feeling content in the moment.

“After driving for so long, aren’t you tired? Want to take a nap together?”

“I’m fine.”

A distant jazz music played, breaking the brief warmth, signaling Shan Yi’s phone ringing.

Shen Tiantian couldn’t fathom how Shan Yi could like jazz. Although some melodies were beautiful, she didn’t understand them and had no idea how to talk about related topics with her.

Looking at the caller ID, Shan Yi said, “You go ahead and sleep. Be good, I’ll go outside to take the call.”

“Okay.”

Shan Yi stepped out onto the balcony to answer the call and greeted, “Mom.”

“Now you remember I’m your mom?”

A torrent of scolding came through the phone, and Shan Yi expressionlessly moved the receiver away. “What happened?”

“I heard from Xiao Yue that you have a girlfriend, and she’s even pregnant, isn’t she? I heard that you took her to a hot spring a couple of days ago, and she almost had a miscarriage? How are you treating your partner? Is your brain only focused on those documents? You get a girlfriend and don’t even bother to tell your family. Why did you suddenly ask me about morning sickness? Turns out, you’ve done something bad?!”

Shan Yi endured a long tirade from her mother, causing a headache. Shan Yue had promised to keep it a secret, so why did she go and tell the elders? Shan Yi couldn’t help but want to complain about her aunt, Shan Yue.

“Don’t think you can fool me just by keeping silent,” her mother continued.

Shan Yi: …

She didn’t intend to fool anyone.

“How is she now? Should I make some soup to nourish her? Is she with you right now?”

Shan Yi whispered: “No need, she just fell asleep.”

Upon hearing Shan Yi’s words, Mother Shan suddenly quieted down, afraid of waking the person up with her loud voice. After a while, she asked in a hushed tone: “When are you bringing her back to me?”

Shan Yi felt helpless, “That depends on when she decides to come back with me.”

“She’s pregnant, and she still hasn’t come back? Do you not want to take responsibility?! How did I educate you when you were young? You…”

Shan Yi hung up the phone and turned it off, and the world instantly became quiet.

The reason she didn’t want to tell her family yet was that she was afraid of her mother’s loud and overreacting manner. Sometimes, she couldn’t understand how her calm and handsome father would be attracted to her.

But despite the arguments, her mother was still good to her.

Sighing, Shan Yi closed the window and returned to the room where Shen Tiantian was already asleep. She still had her phone in her hand, seemingly dozing off while playing with it.

Feeling both amused and exasperated, Shan Yi put the phone aside and gently lifted Shen Tiantian’s feet, covering her with the blanket.

Checking the time, she realized the food delivery hadn’t arrived yet. After a while, she took off her shoes and climbed into bed, gently pulling Shen Tiantian into her embrace.

Shen Tiantian trembled slightly, waking up suddenly, and asked in a daze: “Did I fall asleep?”

Shan Yi replied with an affirmative sound, “Just sleep a little longer.”

Shen Tiantian obediently closed her eyes again, but after a while, she opened them and asked: “Has the food from Four Seasons Hall not arrived yet?”

“Not yet, are you hungry?”

Shen Tiantian nodded; she woke up because of hunger.

“Do you want to have a glass of milk to fill your stomach first?”

“Sure.”

Shan Yi got out of bed and left the room. She quickly retrieved the last carton of milk from the fridge, poured it into a glass, covered it with plastic wrap, and then put it back in to heat it up.
