Chapter 69 - Wire Transfer

Song Luli met with Han Ru at the largest studio owned by Song Entertainment, but she didn't meet him alone.

A flash of surprise flickered across Han Ru's eyes as Song Luli arrived with Lan Shufen and Long Jie.

Han Ru's lips curved upwards, approaching them. "Jie, I didn't expect you to be here. Expanding your business, are you?" he commented.

Long Jie let out a short chuckle. "Like you, and all great businessmen, we can't allow opportunities like this go. I think adding Executive Producer to the many titles I already have would make me seem more invulnerable," he replied.

Song Luli smiled as she knew what he was referring to. Long Jie was a CEO, an engineer, an entrepreneur, an activist, a philanthropist, a business magnate, a violinist, and a husband, her husband. He wasn't one to publicly tell people just who he was, but Song Luli figured that Long Jie wanted to remind Han Ru, just what he was capable of.

"I will never expect less from you," Han Ru admitted. Long Jie smiled.

Lan Shufen stood behind the three of them. She felt as if she was in the middle of a battle between influential and powerful men, something she never imagined witnessing. But there was something hostile that she sensed between them. Are rich people always like this?

She knew Han Ru was an investor and debt collector. And producing a film did not seem unlike his character, but as for Long Jie, she didn't expect him to want to participate. But she supposed the higher the budget, the greater film quality they could make, and at that, her eyes sparkled.

Lan Shufen made herself scarce to set up a meeting between the four of them.

Song Luli, Lan Shufen, Han Ru, and Long Jie then sat in a meeting room, discussing how they would move forward with casting, directing, expenses, and more.

Lan Shufen noticed that Long Jie flaunted his affection for Song Luli. He kept an arm around her during the entire meeting, and he supported every decision she made.

It made Lan Shufen smile because she always felt that Song Luli deserved the special treatment coming from the support of her husband. And not many knew they were married, and that's what makes it more interesting when the other producers find out that they've missed out when her film becomes a success.

The four of them then went on to discuss for hours before finally ending the meeting.

...

Su Xiang went on her way to the hospital for a 16-hour call shift. On her way to work, she passed Su Chen's apartment complex and proceeded to pick up some pre-packaged lunch to keep her mind off things. She felt like doing simple tasks kept her busy, and free from her mind spiralling, despite the mild exhaustion she felt.

After she finished, she went into her car, taking out the business card left behind from Cloak. It seemed cryptic. It didn't have a name, an address, or a phone number; only an email left behind to wire transfer the money.

Su Xiang sighed. What if this was a scam?

But then again, no one was supposed to know that Su Chen was adopted, at least that's what she thought.

Su Xiang decided to wire transfer the money from her earnings; therefore, no one from her family would notice the money was gone. It didn't come from the company or hospital funds; it came from what she's made in all the on-call shifts she worked, and what's she contributed to the company. But it was worth it, so long as no threats went against Su Chen again.

But this made her feel nervous and so anxious that the pit of her stomach felt torn.

She turned on the engine of the car, heading to the hospital. She examined the patient she felt responsible for, once more, and his health had only weakened.

She decided to call Su Chen.

"Hello?" he answered.

"Can you visit my ward to see patient A?" she asked him.

"Will be there in 15 minutes," he said.

"Okay," she replied before ending the call.

Not long after, Su Chen arrived, asking for her report, and examining the patient himself.

He then turned to Su Xiang, privately.

"We have to wait 24 hours for the results in the tests we put him in. But the medicine we gave him may not be working," he said.

"But we've tried everything," Su Xiang responded nervously.

"I know," Su Chen answered warily. "There's one more method, but it's a risk."

Su Xiang sighed. She knew what he was referring to, "Clinical trial?"

"It's our last resort," he said.

"I know," Su Xiang replied, bitting one of her nails.

"As long as he consents to it, we can proceed with it," Su Chen mentioned. "You can also use this a lesson to learn how to administer the medicine, as well as what effects/improvements to seek, and then maybe you can work with me in my department someday."

"You want me to work with you?" Su Xiang asked. But then it made her feel ridiculous for asking. They were to be co-owners, and working together was imminent. Though they already collaborated on many things, when it's time to take over her parent's place, they will see each other in every important meeting, event, and announcement, and more.

"Yes," he said. "Unless you don't want to."

"No!" Su Xiang replied louder than she wanted to. She bit her lip. "I mean, yes, I want to work with you."

Su Chen smiled. He took a hand from his pocket, ruffling her golden hair. "Good," he said. "It seems like we haven't been the same, and I don't want us to grow apart."

Su Xiang smiled grimly. "We won't," she said.

Su Chen's grin broadened, feeling rest assured. He was about to leave when he paused. He whirled, as his raven-black locks fell over his pear-green eyes. "I want you to meet with Yu Haoran to get to know her a little better," he said.

"Me?" Su Xiang questioned.

"Mhm," he answered.

"Why?" she questioned sharply. It stunned him.

"Because if you are to be her sister-in-law, then maybe you should be friends."

Su Xiang exhaled deeply. "Fine," she replied, trying not to sound disappointed. But he was right. She should try to get to know Yu Haoran better. If they are to get married, she should understand her better. And whether she truly loved Su Chen or not. Su Xiang deserved those answers to be assured.
