Chapter 60 - Great Friend

Why did you stand there listening to him?" Lair asked Jade angrily.

"Has he not done enough damage to you already? Don't tell me you're trying to forgive him after all he has done?" Jade slowly shook her head as she lowered it to avoid Lair's stern look.

"You'd better not dare" Lair warned as he growled at her.

"Lair you're scaring me." Jade said in a low voice as she kept avoiding his fierce gaze. She was in the know about Lair's famous temper, but she had never experienced it. He was really protective of his family and friends, but Jade never thought he'd be this fierce.

Lair sighed in resignation when he saw Jade's terrified look. He pulled her into a hug.

"You should be careful of that scumbag. He means no good for you" He said in gentle tone.

"I know" Jade replied.

"Always steer clear off him and that stupid girlfriend of his. You can never know what's going through that crazy mind of theirs. I don't want them hurting you" He said as he pulled away from her, while Jade nodded. She raised her gaze to him and said, "Thank you"

"What for?" Lair asked in confusion. She wasn't thanking him for scolding her, was she?

"For being a great friend" Jade was appreciative of Lair's love and care towards her. She wasn't angered by his outburst, because she knew he only did that for her own safety.

"Silly girl" He said flicking her forehead, "I thought you were becoming a masochist" He added before laughing when he saw Jade frown slightly at him.

"You're the masochist not me" Jade refuted. It was at this point that Jade realized they were the only ones at home. As if on cue, Lair scanned the apartment and asked, "Where's everyone?"

"I don't know. Let me call my mom" Jade rummaged through her bag for her phone. She placed a call to her mom, who informed her she had gone out to get groceries for dinner with Kevin.

"They are out to get groceries" Jade said before walking to the kitchen to get water for herself and Lair.

"Thank you" Lair said before gulping down the whole glass.

"I needed that" He added feeling refreshed.

"Sure you do. After scaring the shit out of me" Jade said rolling her eyes at him.

"It was necessary"

"By the way, why are you here? Why did you come without Amy?" Jade asked.

"You dare to ask me that? Who was it that refused picking up my calls and won't stop sulking over 'God knows what'?" He asked raising a brow at her.

"Oh, I'm sorry about that. I told Amy I was going to call you back, I guess I forgot." Jade said as she lazily lolled herself on the sofa.

"You spoke to Amy, and you didn't pick my calls?" Lair asked with an accusing look as he joined her on the sofa.

"Don't be a jealous brat. It was just a call. Tch..I can't believe you're jealous of your sister" Jade hissed.

"I guess I'm no longer needed here. I'll just return back to work as soon as possible." Lair said feigning annoyance.

"And leave your new girlfriend?" Jade teased.

"What girlfriend?" Lair was confused. When did he have a girlfriend that he wasn't aware of.

"Yeah pretend like you don't know what I'm talking about. Weren't you flirting with a girl at that party?" Jade asked with a knowing look. Lair closed his eyes in frustration when he realized what she was talking about. He has no one to blame for this except that loud mouth sister of his.

"I don't know what you're talking about. And you can stop listening to the rubbish that comes out Amy's mouth"

"Really?" Jade asked teasefully. She was interested in knowing what had transpired between Lair and this mysterious girl. This was the first time she had heard Lair flirted or talked with a woman when it wasn't related to his work. He was just too stuffed up and he invested his time in his work.

This had always made her wonder if doctors were usually like this.

"Yeah...so you can stop talking rubbish now" He said as he flicked her forehead again.

"Ouch" Jade cried out in pain as she glared at him.

"I guess you better start going. You've seen me, and I'm not sulking anymore. So leave Lair Walker before I murder you" She sneered as she rubbed on her forehead.

"What?" Lair asked in disbelief.

"I promise I'll kill you right here and now, and believe me no one will find your corpse" She threatened with a frown while Lair laughed at how cute her face was.

"Okay I'll go" He agreed as he raised his hands up.

"Don't call me when you ex baby boy comes threatening you" He teased as he rose up from the sofa.

"I won't call you. Just go before you break my cranium with those iron plated fingers of yours"

"Alright Jade. You'll come running back when you miss me" Lair said as he tried reaching for Jade's hair to ruffle it, but she docked.

"Tch...You wish" Jade rolled her eyes at him.

"Whatever" Lair waved as he walked out of the house.

"What a bully" Jade murmured.
