Chapter 1332 A Scheme At The Zoo

The soft light of morning came streaming through the windows of the bedroom, gently brushing over Mamie's eyelids until they fluttered awake. She opened her eyes to Devin's sleeping face. As the last vestiges of sleep dissolved, a weight settled in her chest, like happiness tinged with pain. Even after long hours of pondering, she was still unable to find answers.

Why had Jessie told her to go to the zoo with Devin?

She racked her mind for possible explanations but it was in vain. Mamie knew that even if she asked Jessie, she would not tell her the reason.

"What's wrong, honey?" Devin's sleep-addled voice pulled her back from her thoughts. "Why did you wake up so early?" he asked.

Before that, Mamie had been absentmindedly stroking his hair, and he awoke to her slight touch. In truth, he hadn't slept well. He had been feeling ill-at-ease since last night, but he couldn't pinpoint the reason.

Sleep evaded him. He had kept his eyes closed and tried to sleep, but it was not until 3 o'clock in the morning that he had finally been able to fall into slumber.

"Nothing." Mamie gave him a small smile to cover up her anxiety. "I was just looking at you. Go back to sleep. It's still early. I'll make breakfast for you..."

"No." He stopped her.

"Just stay here. I'll ask someone else to make breakfast for us."

Mamie hurriedly shook

creatures. Seeing how the ring lit up her face, he resolved to keep in mind what she liked and get it again next time. The price did not matter, if it meant he could see her smile like that again.

On the way to the zoo, Mamie looked out of the window, avoiding looking at the diamond ring. It felt heavy and cold around her finger.

She had wanted to tell Devin that she had changed her mind and did not want to go to the zoo, but it was as if the words got stuck in her throat.

Instead of excitement, she was filled with apprehension. She didn't know what kind of danger awaited them in that place.

She curled her fingers into fists. Jessie was definitely up to something. This was not the time to hesitate.

Summoning her voice, she said suddenly, "I think we'd better not go there, Devin…"

Devin looked at Mamie in confusion. "What's wrong? We're almost there. Why don't you want to go?"
