Chapter 407 - 407 You Will Become my Shadow

"I know but I wanted to help you take your mind off things. You save two out of seven and that is a win in our books. It is unfortunate that we lost our captive. We will be banning people that do not check-in within the next forty-eight hours. I am going to make it that if they do not check in with me over the phone then communication will be cut. Those that come back and are confused will be reinstated. I do not know how to make sure that they are on my side. Noah and Bell I already talked to. They rushed over here with Clara and the young girl panicked."

Brielle was standing to the side and was chatting with Noah. "Just take your daughter on holiday. There is nothing that the two of you can do to help in this situation." 

"But that doesn't mean that we can abandon our duties," Noah spoke sharply to Brielle. 

Brielle looked at Noah, "but you cannot ignore the fact that your daughter is scared! Noah, I know that you want to help but you need a vacation. That is why Leo is letting you and Bell go." 

Kitty walked up to Noah. She smacked his cheek, "Noah, you need to think straight. There is nothing that can be done right now. If you are needed, we will call you back. Until then you will leave with your daughter and wife. I do not want to hear any more complaining about it." 

Bell looks at Kitty in shock then carries Clara to Noah. "Dear, I told you that we should go. I am sorry, Kitty. I just could not get him to come and leave. We were on our way outside when we heard the explosion. He rushed back without thinking." 

"Papa!" Clara was crying and holding out her arms to him.

Noah looked down embarrassed and took Clare from Bell. "I am sorry. I do not know what I was thinking." he patted Clara on the back. "Shhhh, it is okay." 

"I am sorry for hitting you but it seemed like the fastest way to calm you down." Kitty walked back to Leo and rested her head on his shoulder. 

Leo leaned down and whispered in her ear, "It feels like you need the essence. I can feel it overflowing inside my body. Do you want it now or in a little bit?" 

"In a bit," Kitty whispers back. "I brought your two living men back from almost dying. They were hovering between life and death. I am sorry for your loss." 

Leo looked at Daniel, "Daniel, please tell everyone here what happened." 

"We went to your meeting and heard the announcement. Congratulations by the way. The lot of us decided to show our good faith and came here to help Rex. We did not know Asurlon was here as well. That was when Steve went to the door and entered a code and threw something at us. Rex jumped over Berry and me. Whatever he threw blew up and both Berry and I got injured but if Rex did not protect us we would be dead. It was distressed and I passed out for a little bit then you all came here. Where is Rex? I want to thank him." Daniel looks at the group then at Kitty.

"I am sorry, Rex did not make it. He died in my arms." Kitty turned and hugged Leo and the tears started flowing out of her cheeks. 'Berith you saved a good soul.' 

Leo patted Kitty on the back and kissed the corners of her eyes. "Thank you for the report, Daniel. I know that it is not easy to understand what happened but Rex was not human and should not have died but his wounds would not heal. He saved my beloved and I will never forget him. Rex had his good days and bad days. Daniel, you may not know this but Rex was in charge of the wing that you are in. The reason nothing ever happened on that side is because Rex took care of it." 

"That would make a lot of sense. What will we do now that he is… no longer with us?" Daniel looked down sadly and thought about Rex. 'Teacher you were my biggest aspiration. I am sorry that you passed while protecting me.'

"I am not sure yet. You were his last disciple. Brielle and I were his first." Leo shook his head and knew what to do but not sure how to bring it up.

"Darling, you should say what is on your mind. It is not like you will upset anyone. There is only one thing that would make you hesitate and that is uncertainty." Kitty touched Leo's cheek.

"You are right. I am uncertain but I also know that I am right. Daniel, I would like to formally invite you to join us. I originally had Rex become my eyes on that side of the building. For now, we will act like Rex is out on a mission and have you work with Will or Brielle. It was a tragedy that happened." Leo looked at Daniel and waited to hear what he was thinking.

"Wait... you want me to take over? I cannot. There is no way that I can fill in his shoes. Leo are you crazy?" Daniel looks freaked out but also honoured. 

"Yes, you are the only person that I could ask to take this on. His pin will be yours and you will become my shadow." Leo was straight-faced while he said this. 

Daniel looked at everyone here and then nodded his head. "I will do it for Rex. I know the job details extremely well but you are right I should learn the paperwork part. Rex was never good at that." 

Kitty giggled while crying. "That sounds like Grandfather. He would always say if you do the paperwork it will leave a trail."
