80 Lastorms’ Bitter End

Name:The Phoenix Aspect Author:DJRogue
Jayde was filled with disgust at Treasurer Lastorm false servitude. She wasn't a stupid and naive child that believed that if she let these two off that they would change just because of this incident. She knew that if she didn't do anything these two would return to their bullying ways the moment she left — if anything they would be worse due to being so humiliated in front of the people watching.

Just as Jayde was deciding how to handle the father and daughter pair, an old man with a younger man by his side walked up. The old man's had a groomed mustache which was silver-white, his wide forehead had numerous lines. His life's incredible journey was written on his face. The lines around his eyes told you a tale of laughter, of warm smiles and affection while his forehead told of worries past and present.

The young man at his side was a younger version of the old man, he had the same deep brown eyes and tanned skin. He was still slender and toned. Around his eyes were laughter lines in just the right amount. One could see that the young man was often happy, but at that moment he was deadly serious, just like the old man.

"What is going on?" the old man demanded, despite his age, his voice was mellow and modulated.

"President Andillevé, Counsellor Andillevé" High Merchant Creseul said standing up, bowing slightly as he greeted the two.

Quickly High Merchant Creseul walked over to the old man to explain the situation. When he got to the part about Jenfer Lastorm ordering her guards to **** Jayde and skin Master Whitestone,President Andillevé's face darkened, anyone could see that the old man was furious.

After hearing the whole story,President Andillevé waved off High Merchant Creseul, then walking over to Jayde he bowed deeply.

"My sincerest apologies Lady Mage," he said apologetically.

"You can be assured that the Merchants' Guild will give you an account for this atrocious behavior."

"Guards"President Andillevé called out sharply.

A dozen or so guards immediately responded to the old man's call.

"Treasurer Lastorm, you are hereby fired," President Andillevé said, then turning to the guards he ordered.

"Throw Johro Lastorm and his daughter out, both of them are hereby blacklisted."

While Jayde didn't understand what being blacklisted meant, everybody else did — it was the harshest penalty that the Merchants' Guild could impose on an individual and it was not done lightly.

It meant no one associated with the Merchants' Guild would have anything to do with the two, and that including all the other guilds in Oldstrand. None of the shops would sell or buy goods from the two, the healers wouldn't attend to them, the banks would call in their loans — everyone would disassociate themselves from the whole Lastorm family.

The had just become pariahs in Oldstrand and considering their past actions, there were a lot of people who would now have a chance to enact their revenge — their lives from now onwards would be worse than being dead.

The guards grabbed Johro Lastorm and his daughter and dragged them from the Merchants' Guild Hall.

"Unhand me you low born pieces of trash" Jenfer Lastorm screeched.

"Do you have any idea who I am?"

The guards just threw her a disdainful look, shaking their heads at her stupidity. Once they reach the top of the stairwell to the Merchants' Guild they just picked her up and threw her down the stairs, a couple of seconds later her father quickly followed suit.

Picking herself off the paved road, Jenfer Lastorm hurried over to her father, to help him to his feet.

"Father how could you allow them to treat us this way" she complained bitterly.

Johro Lastorm looked at his idiotic daughter, laughing bitterly to himself. He had just lost everything because of this child and all she could do was complain.

Dejected he didn't even bother saying a word to his daughter, he had to escape from Oldstrand as quickly as possible before his enemies had a chance to act. Hailing a nearby carriage, he quickly stepped into it, while Jenfer stared dumbly after her father.

Not even bothering to wait for his daughter Johro Lastorm ordered the carriage to return him to his home.

Jenfer Lastorm had to walk home as she never carried gold on her, her father had accounts with all the major stores, and if she ever wanted anything where her family didn't have accounts, it was always given to her for free as everyone was too scared to demand payment.

By the time she returned home, her father had already disappeared. He cleared out all the gold and jewelry that he had in his safe, then disguising himself as a lowly merchant, he left Oldstrand. He didn't make it far from Oldstand as many of his enemies had already gotten word of his downfall, and had sent their servant to watch his house.

When they found out that he was leaving Oldstrand they were waiting for him a few kilometers from the city. His ending wasn't pleasant — it took him nearly three days before he died, and those days were filled with unimaginable pain and suffering.

The next day when the creditors came knocking, Mrs. Lastorm and Jenfer Lastorm were left to face them alone. Without any money to pay off the creditors, their house and assets were repossessed, Mrs. Lastorm was sold into slavery, while Jenfer Lastorm was sold to the local brothel, who specialized to catering to the darker side of men and women sexual desires.

Once Jenfer Lastorm enemies found out where she was, her days and nights were filled with torment, the brothel owner on the other hand was extremely happy that she had purchased Jenfer Lastorm, as for the two months that Jenfer managed to live she made a small fortune off the woman.

Meanwhile, while the Lastorm father and daughter were being thrown out of the Merchants' Guild, President Andillevé turned to Jayde.

"Lady Mage, I am President Andillevé, the president of the Merchants' Guild" then turning to indicate the young man standing by his side.

"This is my son, Counsellor Andillevé, the city leader."

"We have never condoned that sort of behavior, and I am embarrassed that you were subject to such treatment." President Andillevé said.

"Please if you and your companions would follow me, I would like to speak privately to you?" he asked sincerely.

President Andillevé was not a stupid man, he didn't get to where he was in life by making foolish mistakes. He needed to make amends as quickly as possible, the Mage standing in front of him may be a young girl, but she was powerful and she would make a powerful ally for his son.

Jayde looked at Elder Ryunzo to see his reaction to this invitation, while she personally had no interested in forming closer ties with the Andillevés, she knew that they could be beneficial to the villagers.

Noticing that Elder Ryunzo had no objection, Jayde nodded her agreement and followed President Andillevé, his son and High Merchant Creseul to a small tearoom.
