Chapter 387 - Too Easy

Checks followed Christina to make sure that she was safe. He left after an hour that she was gone. He knew that she would have to go ahead to set up position and to check the surrounding areas.

He could not even think about his own mission because he was worrying so much about her. He knew that his friend had the reckless bone in every part of her body. She was in so dire need to prove a point that she was strong that he knew she was going to do something stupid.

Checks didn't even bother hiding his face from the cameras. It was not like he was going to kill someone tonight… or at least he hoped. He was not the kind of person who prayed after what he had been through, but he prayed that morning for things to go well with Christina.

Well, to be clear, he prayed that the gods would send her some common sense and do her missions quickly.

When he got to the building opposite of where Christina's target would be, he scoured floors where she could possibly be but she was nowhere to be found. He went to the rooftop and took out a pair of binoculars.

Only when he looked through them did he realized that his prayers had not been answered.

Honestly, he was not that surprised. He had lost faith even before. So nothing new.

He cursed loudly against the wind and barreled through the exit. If he had wings, he would've flown down to the ground floor from the rooftop, but unfortunately he did not.

He almost beat the elevator buttons senseless. Luckily, the elevator had the system that would get him down the ground floor without stopping. But even then, it felt like it took him ages before he got to the ground floor and he ran across the street.

He was cursing under his breath all the time, cursing himself for not checking there immediately. Somehow, he did not know why he trusted that Christina had some sanity left in her.

She did not even care to show her target to him. He had to break into her room while she was in the shower area just so he could take a peek of who was the person assigned to her.

He didn't want to look like he was such in a rush to get into the building so he pulled a casual look on his face when he entered through the doors.

He got into the elevator peacefully but he was not alone. Please, please, please, he kept whispering in his mind. He didn't not know who he was praying to at this point. To Christina? For her to be safe and keep holding on. To the gods? For them to listen to him just this once. To himself? To hold on to the last sliver of patience inside of him.

His knuckles turned white with the way he had kept on squeezing against the bars that ran around the walls of the elevator. The two girls inside in front was definitely whispered about him, making it very audible that they were wondering what he was going to be doing that night.

He turned a blind eye and focused himself to remain calm. He already knew that something would go wrong. He could feel it in his guts. All of his instincts were on fire.

Finally he reached the top floor and he ran to the fire exit to get to the rooftop. Obviously, Christina was no longer there. She had already been rappelling the building's outer walls when he had spotted her from the building where she should've been.

"This is f.u.c.k.i.n.g nuts," he looked down and even his stomach turned when he saw how far he was from the ground. He had checked the harness. It did look like it was supported enough. She had taken her time securing it and making sure that it was attached properly against the barrier.

Right, he should not be worried. She had received the same amount of training that she had. She might be even better at him at everything other than close combat.

He ran his hands against his hair. His mouth had already gone dry. He was thirsty and dehydrated.

If things would go well, she wouldn't even have to know that he had been here. Most probably, Christina bore a hole against the glass windows with some fancy gadget that had been part of the tools that they had to learn about for more than two years.

He could see where the line went and saw that the line was taut. He could only wish that things were going well inside the room.

**

Too easy. It was too easy.

Christina was staring at the lifeless body of this man. Now that she was seeing a dead person—whose life that she had taken, she realized how easy it was to end everything.

People were so busy getting ready with their lives, planning their futures, obsess about earning money, and looking good. All for what? At the end of the day, they would all go down and have an empty look on their faces as the life drained away from them.

This was the reason why Christina wanted to live her life more. It was because she would die someday and she didn't want to regret a single thing. She was going to do all the things that she wanted.

If she was going to die then she was going to die.

Or maybe she had been too confident because while she was going upwards, the rope would not bite. "F.u.c.k," she cursed. It looked like she had to climb this stupid thing.

It was why she didn't like machinery. They always had the potential of messing things up in a mission. It was why knives and physical strength mattered.

And these f.u.c.k.i.n.g machines might be the reason why she would die tonight.
